  1. Congratulations Covington -- now "Go The Distance!" . . . and if you have the opportunity . . . beat the crap out of USJ. Thanks to all who have posted to keep us up on the progress of the games. As a GP Fan, I'm disappointed, that the season is over, but glad to see that GP has well made the transition to AA baseball. There were a number of folks on this Message Board who trashed GP at the beginning of the season and who felt that GP could not compete in AA ball. Well, that's settled! Hold your heads up Cougars. Great season!
  2. Two, evenly matched teams
  3. You absolutely cannot make errors at Spring Fling.
  4. Does anyone know how the Covington v Goodpasture game is going?
  5. Goodpasture has a long history of competing very well against A, AA & AAA teams as well as Div II teams. In the early season, Goodpasture has also has a history of competing very well against Florida AAA, AAAA, AAAAA teams. Let the games begin.
  6. It was my experience that most will reply. The most interested coaches will, at some point, send a hand written note and will call.
  7. Well my Memphis contact called with the report on Game 1. GP 11 FC 0 GP run ruled FC in just 5 innings. GP sophomore LHP, Logan Darnall, faced just 18 batters over 5 innings to win Game 1. Game 2 has begun. Bottom of the 2nd -- GP leads 1 to 0. With a low pitch count, Logan Darnall is also pitching Game 2. So far, he's still in a groove -- 3 up 3 down, and 3 up 3 down. The planned starting pitcher for Game 2, Edward Porter, is still in the GP bullpen. Looks like young Logan Darnall has an opportunity to make a real name for himself, today.
  8. Does anyone have any idea how the Goodpasture / Friendship Christian game is going? GP coming from the loseers bracket must win two games to advance. FC needs just one win to advance. First game started at noon.
  9. Goodpasture 14 Halls 2 Halls had way too many errors today. Can't do that in State Tournament Play. Errors (and running short on pitching) cost Halls two games today. At the first sign of trouble, in both games today, Halls layed down. They appear to be a better ball club than they showed today. Halls shortstop is the real deal. Will be an excellent 2nd baseman at the next level. He's a player! GP still has plenty of pitching for Thursday. GP threw off today. It's going to be an interesting day to see is GP can beat Friendship twice on Thursday to reach the Final game. It's all a matter of whether GP can answer FC's bats. GP is deeper on pitching and better on defense. FC has the edge with the bats. Friendship looks great. FC looks the part of a state tournament champion. Heads shaved, focused, and playing good ball. If they're pitching holds up -- it might happen for them.
  10. Best ribs in Memphis -- Blues City Cafe on Beale Street/downtown Memphis. (Also the best catfish.)
  11. Goodpasture OF/P Austin Tice signed with Vol State on Friday. Austin's signing brings to ten (10), the number of players from Goodpasture's 2004 Single A, State Championship team that have now signed to play college ball. Stay tuned for the signings of #11 and #12 -- in the near future. The offers have been extended and are under consideration. GO COUGARS!
  12. Please tell us more. Who's sponsoring the event?
  13. EXCELLENT summer baseball program. Always competetive with very good area talent. Not quite what it use to be, in terms of dominance -- but still an excellent summer program.
