Everyone knows how consistently great Maryville is every year, you have this aura of invincibility that Christian probably just wanted our team to not think that way. Maryville is also the best coached team in the state i doubt that some comment is gonna make them more motivated or ready to play, they are already ready to play every game and its the playoffs, everybody is plenty motivated in the playoffs,

    A rare GovMan opinion:

    1.  DB coach should make the comments that were published in article only to his players to motivate them.

    2.  As other coaches have found out in years past, it might be better to actually beat Maryville first, then make your comments.

    3.  I GUARANTEE you what he said will make the Rebels “more motivated”.  They thrive on that.

    4.  I hope DB does make it interesting, it would make the game more entertaining to watch and help Maryville as they move on.

    5.  Good luck to both teams.

Nope. Using the existing (and half-full) structure at Eagleton Middle School...

K-7 will be at the current Eagleton Elementary, 8-12 will be at EMS.
Pretty much a done deal at this date.

The new school, if plans go through which isn't a definite yet, will begin with just a 9th grade class.  Geared toward vocational classes.

  3. Was it Paul Harvey that used to say, “And now the the rest of the story ...”?  Here’s a little addition to the excellent video about the Rebels’ summer mission trip.

Seth Hair is in my youth group at FBC Maryville.  He got back from that trip on a Friday ... did his laundry that evening ... and drove all night with his dad to Charleston to join his FBC youth group for their summer mission trip.  Drove through the night and was out working with our youth on mission projects the next day, and the next week.

I knew a Williamson from the Fairview area. Class of '84. The one I am talking about is from Disco Road and only went to WB one year.

He spends most of his time fishing for crappie these days.  But in the day, he was usually best at every sport he participated in!

Chill ... is that "official"?  Or just your thoughts?  A pretty good list.  One of my favorite players in the distict hit 1,000 points last night -- Jordan Tarver, WB.  Not in top five in district, but I think he would have to be considered in Top 10.  He's a stat sheet kid and I have loved watching him play.

That Maryville game with the Ts was an exception for Bearden. Been following them for the past five years (son played and graduated already) and that's not the norm, so the Ts shouldn't be a factor moving forward. Yeah, Stephney will open is mouth and get T'ed once in a while, but I was really, really surprised when Kah got called twice in that game. Parrott does not let that happen and reprimands his players for stuff like that. I do believe there was something up with the refs that night in Maryville, but not going to dwell on it. That was probably be their only district loss that'll have this year. Pember did not play that night and I think Roman was still sick. Morale of the story, don't expect that to happen again and with Maryville coming to Bearden next, that Bearden is not going to let that happen again. Joe's great, but there is only one of him,

Their other losses were to some pretty caliber nationally ranked and Memphis teams. They should cruise through the post season play and get to states again. Can they pull off a state win though? Can they finish? I would expect all roads lead through Memphis East again, although I think the makeup of that team has changed some. Wiseman and Dandridge are still there and better than ever, but they lost Lomax and of course Penny. I do think Memphis East is still going to be too strong for Bearden again, IMO. They lost to Whitehaven not long ago as well. Should be interesting to see how it will unfolds.

I've watched Bearden play against William Blount and Maryville mostly for the past 10-12 years.  I've seen so many "class" players for the Bulldogs.  I too, am surprised by Kah getting T'ed up.  He's always seemed to be a quality young man.  You mentioned Stephney, but the one I've watched for the past 3 seasons that I think is the needs to be reigned in is the Glover kid (Ques).  He talks (i.e. whines) to the referee more than any other high school kid I've ever watched.  I'm really surprised that Coach Parrot doesn't intervene at times.  I also sit very, very close to the floor at WB home games so I've heard his language for three years.  Let me just add this to my critique, he's one of the most talented high school players I've watched in a long time.  Surprised he isn't getting SEC type offers.  I wonder if his attitude has anything to do with that?  Honestly asking, not throwing stones.

That’s fair. Completely agree the coach is great. But Maryville just isn’t near as good of team when they aren’t at home and the assistant AD doesn’t get to tell his son who they want to ref the games.

    I’ll bite...who is Maryville’s assistant AD?

  8. I still say, "IF" Bearden has everyone healthy (and eligible), noone in East Tennessee will beat them.  Had 'em at WB on Tuesday night.  One of the better teams I've seen on that floor in many, many years.  Going across to play those Memphis teams may be a different story, but around here I don't think they'll get touched the rest of the season.  I plan on going over when Maryville plays them and would love to see Maryville knock them off again, but if I'm a betting man ...don't think it's gonna happen.

Great win for Maryville. Anderson gets all the pub- deservedly so, he is the MVP of district, IMO- but Gale is as good of a pure shooter as I have seen at Maryville. When those two are hot and knocking down 3’s, they can beat anybody on a given night.

Bearden had 12-0 and 13-0 runs in the game and still lost. They are very talented but they lose focus on both ends of the court and have too many intensity lapses for a team with their experience, imo.

As for officiating, Red Rebels is exactly correct about the crew. When one particular ref who will remain nameless shows up like he did last night, the officials always seem to be the center of attention, regardless of what teams are playing. IMO, it’s not a good thing when the officiating crew is so noticeable and when this particular official is there, officiating always seems to be VERY noticeable.

The comment on Gale is huge, N.D.  Not saying I disagree, but the names Humphrey and Damron give me pause ...

  10. Was Bearden at full strength roster-wise against Maryville?  Little surprised that Maryville beats them, although as long as the Rebels have Joe Anderson out there, nothing will completely shock me.

WB loses a key contributor for the remainder of the season.  Looks like senior Destin Deering is moving out of state during Christmas break.

     Sorry I couldn’t help myself.

Sounds like such a great game and I would have loved to have been there.  I’m thankful, men and women, that we can discuss—and even debate some—without throwing our friendships under the bus.  When I say to remember, “it’s just high school football”, trust me I’m the “kettle calling the pot black”.  But as I get a little older, I’m starting to get it a little better.

My son taught Sunday School Sunday morning to a group of youth—some from Maryville, some from Alcoa, and even one from Heritage.  He talked about how as Christians, our church and our youth group, should be our “refuge” where we can support, encourage, console, and yes, even love one another , and keep a proper perspective on sports and rivalries.  I was pretty proud of him ... he’s a lot further along than his old man in so many ways.

    Sermon’s over!

Ok allow me to clear up a few things please

    1. Jake is NOT Shadroach.

Read his archived posts. It quickly becomes obvious that Greenbow Alabama High School did not create a wordsmith of the caliber of the real Shadroach.

    2. This is a football message board so if talking about the low skill level of a QB is off limits then maybe we should turn the conversations to who has the coolest uniforms and please if a team has ugly uniforms do not mention it. It could hurt somebody's feelings. Anyone that knows football knows a team lives or dies on the production of their QB. I'm sure the WB QB is an awesome kid. Never said a bad word about the kid on a personal basis. Jake how come you didn't come to the defense of that big lineman Shad sent out to represent WB in the pass skills competition? Does he not deserve reps at QB? There are 4 players on that team capable of throwing the ball 50+ yards. How bout them?

    3. willieBgov- Great guy. Bleeds WB blue. Got to comfy on his radio show. Capable of much better. When you put yourself in the entertainment spotlight sometimes your fans will criticize. Not because they hate you, because they want to see you preform at the pinnacle of your ability.

    4. AD and Administration- I like them as people but you can't turn your back on a program because it takes to much effort to fix. Dedicated professionals would see the program as a challenge worthy of their time. They'd want their legacy to be that they left it stronger and better than they found it. Its not to late. Mao said "The longest journey starts with the first step."

    Thats all. Carry on.

Oops one more thing. Sharktooth! Long time no see. Didn't see your mom at church again Sunday. She getting better? I can't believe the police tazered her in the Sonic drive thru! Why didn't your sister tell the cop your mom has Turrets? Awful situation. Give her my regards.

Shadroach is truly a "Chip" off the old block.

Willie, You're overlooking facts in favor of kissing up to the Power Brokers. It was raining. FACT. It was raining on LC also. They moved the ball. They passed the ball, also a FACT. Shad depended heavily on The D. FACT. Shad had no choice but to depend on the D because The O went 3 and out every time. Remember? Zero first downs? FACT! Offense isn't good enough yet. NOT A FACT. Are they good yes special no. Turn on your football brain a second, Imagine if you will/can the WB offense with LC's QB. Add 100 yards rushing and I'd estimate 2 more scores. The world turns and football has changed. A pocket passer is almost a thing of the past.  A mobile or Wildcat QB is the key to success. You're adding a whole new dimension to the opposing D Coordinators game plan. That doesn't just effect his game scheme it effects his practice time in prep week. He MUST que his defense up to be able to defend him. Unlike our coordinator Friday a "spy" would be assigned in the middle to defend against a QB run. That creates one less pass defender. Add the dimension of a QB that can chuck the ball 50+ yards and now the safties aren't cheating up smothering the run. Add a QB that could run the option and take some pressure off the Oline, add another 50+ yards of O. I could go on with fundamental theories for 9 pages but to summarize my response to your post WB Offense is on track. We just need to make basic adjustments. Nothing crazy or fancy. Basic. As far as winning or losing to AC let'r rip! If we get beat lets get beat by a better team NOT a better coach. If you get whupped by the neighborhood bully at least make his mama ask him where he got that shiner.

Willie give thinking for yourself a try instead of drinking The Shadaid.

Don't be so " Chippy" Shadroach

Much respect to you GM you always have the facts!Thank you.

Hey OB ... don’t get me wrong.  It’s not Greenbacks job to “take a knee” it is WB’s job to stop them.  I can also understand why both Coach & Boys might want to “go the extra mile” against WB.  Plus it’s jamboree and I know team’s are still fine tuning, so you want to practice stuff.
