Didnt GB take a knee inside the 10?Could have been worse on the Govs but the 1A team showed class.GB has alot of work to do on the D!

Actually, GB did not take a knee originally at a time when they should have. They tried to score again (long pass) with less than 30 seconds on the clock but it was incomplete. They still tried one more time —were penalized and THEN they took a knee.  And they WERE NOT inside the 10.  Just keepin’ it real.

Very impressed with the Cherokees, lots of talent.  Will be surprised if they don’t end up winning it again!

Have you ever seen someone paint a garage floor or a concrete porch and it last? Of course not. Since we have figured that one out why not go paint a whole concrete football stadium a 100 yards long. I hope I'm wrong but two or three years from now this will look like Fido's #### and they'll have a Special Gov Club meeting to all bring their scrappers with them on the first Saturday in May.2v9pzbm.jpg

    Barney,

The stadium was pressure washed, not painted.  You guys will replace your turf 2 or 3 more times before the Gov Club has to come scrape!!!

I certainly think Campbell County is more than capable of taking down a District 4-AAA team. In fact, on a good night they can beat OR but I do not think it will happen.

I have had a feeling all year that Oak Ridge has been working on some things to use in the post season.  I believe we will see a different Lady Wildcat team. Focused, Determined. Defense minded. All together. Well coached. Of course, I am a homer to the core. I may live in Chattanooga and love it here but Oak Ridge will always have my heart.

Good points Willie.  Oak Ridge girls are already a handful .. if they turn it up even another notch, then my prediction may end up looking silly.  But I've just got a gut feeling (I'm a homer also).  Campbell County has not fared so well this season against 4AAA teams ... but that don't matter in the tournament.  Be interesting to see how it plays out.

Sadly I have not seen a game this year, but I saw where murvil had an incredible record and wb’s was mediocre. What was the story with this game? Govs underrated? Murvil overrated? I know both teams are very well coached.

Blount boys are pretty good squad, Strong X.  Have battled through some injuries to key players and are now pretty much 100%.  Good depth on the squad and they play like their "hair is on fire."  They caught Maryville on a night when their shots weren't falling ... some of that can be attributed to WB's defense.  I think Bearden is at the top ... then Maryville, Catholic, Farragut, WB  on any given night are right there.  Should be a good tournament.  WB is the kind of team you don't want to have to play in the tournament if you are 1 or 2.

WB has had one of the better student sections the last few years. They own the fact that their football team hasn't been that good, and they still have fun. What did you expect them to do, clap?

Yeah .... the kid with the sign is a good kid.  I noticed some of the Maryville players over talking to him and laughing together later in the game.  Unfortunately, all the schools sometimes have kids that cross the line of good sportsmanship. I may be alone, but I'm of the opinion that whether your Alcoa, Maryville, Heritage, WB, or anyone else, if an administrator hears a kid in the student section cursing an opponent's players, the kid should be escorted out.

BTW, RW87 I laughed at your "I thought they mispelled Rebs".  That's funny, I don't care who you are!

    To Mr. Cupp

I saw a job posting yesterday on Twitter for an opening on the WB Football staff and would greatly appreciate your consideration to review my resume.

My first job was actually working for an orange juice factory, but I got canned, I couldn't concentrate.

I also tried working for a local deli but the owner had to let me go, he said I couldn't cut the mustard.

I then became a professional fisherman but discovered I couldn't live off my net income.

My qualifications for this position is from going to over 500 Maryville Football games and if I can get this position I may be able to talk to one of my buddies that sets beside me to come along that can tell you what the next play will be and he's never wrong. I also would enjoy that vacation during fall break you all take.

Thank you so much, Barney Sox

Based on your absolute obsession with William Blount (about 95% of your posts are about WB) it is quite obvious that you are a big fan BS.  In all my years on "the T" I've never seen someone fixate on one team/one school/one coach the way you fixate on the Governors and Coach Shadowens.  We're honored to be constantly on your mind !!! :)

Maryville wins the Heritage Thanksgiving Tournament beating Halls 68-57

Wasn’t actually a tournament format.  Maryville played well (especially with just 7 players seeing action) and went 2-0.  Grace Christian also went 2-0 and was really impressive  with nice wins over Heritage and William Blount.  Maryville is shooting incredibly well from 3-point line.  If they are able to bolster their inside game with the footballers returning, they are going to be really tough in the district.

Fun, random fact: Today is the 10th anniversary to the date of when the best WB team ever took off the pads for the last time.

In the 10 seasons following 2007, WB has won just 24 games combined. which comes out to an average of 2.4 wins per year.

Historically, WB's truly competitive teams appear after long droughts, so we have to savor the "special" seasons when they come around. 1991, 1999, and 2007 are the only teams (in my opinion) to fit that criteria. The previous trend was 8 seasons between each great team, but we're still waiting on the next one. Hopefully it won't be too much longer.

Until then, I'll be re-watching the 2007 highlight video and supporting our excellent softball and girls basketball teams. Go Govs!!

All Region ... you might want to add on the boy's basketball team to your list of teams  you're going to support.  Best squad we've had in a few years.  Very exciting to watch this yea!

In all seriousness Red , this should be good news for William Blount sports community, as well as Maryville .  Wouldn’t you agree?

  10. Hey, it's not really high school but ... if you're not  doing anything this Saturday morning, the East Tennessee Middle School Football Conference Championships will be held at Maryville High.  Seymour vs Loudon in the consolation game at 10am.  Maryville vs WB in the championship game at noon.  The Govman will be coming up the to Skeeter-Dome to try out their "big speakers" as guest P.A. Announcer.

Bart Hicks, Ronald Osborne, Zach Witt.......

I don't need to research the rest.  I was trying to initiate a genuine conversation.  You can come up with 3, maybe 4 players with RW's help.  All of them with the exception of Hicks which I'm not sure about, were Blount County kids originally.  Witt never could decide where to go ... he was at Fairview (county), Carpenters (county), Alcoa, then back to Blount.  You forgot Dalton Wheeler and the Cunningham kid who played a year or two at Blount, switched to Alcoa, and then back to William Blount.  You rally want to challenge my research on stuff pertaining to WB?  I'm not looking for an argument, I just like to stay factual.

At the same time Patton was QB for Maryville, Both Heritage, WB and Greenback had starting QB's that HAD been in the Alcoa system.  Alcoa can lose players.........not a churp, but if Alcoa picks up a player,.......get ready for a bunch of sissies to start crying.

BC, no crying here. It is what it is.  But our of curiosity ... give me a list of every player you are aware of that left the Alcoa system to go to William Blount.  The qb you speak of, I think it was probably the Owens kid?  Interesting story there, the Owens live in Blount County, on Middlesettlements Rd., but are probably just as close to Alcoa High at they were to WB, mileage-wise.  I'm not being contentious ... I know we've had a few players from Alcoa, but I don't think it has been many.  Also, did Patton play at Alcoa Middle?  I thought he played at Heritage in middle school?

  14. Hey,

I've been out of the loop for quite a while.  I wonder if Compton = that dude from Oak Ridge a few years ago. I can't remember his Coach T name, but I think he was Hitch on the radio call in shows.  Bladerunner?  can't for sure remember, but  I do recall he really resented me!

People can't get mad because the young man wants to win. Who wants to play at WB and stink it up every year or go to Maryville and play for a ring every year. I think I know which one I'd choose.

Not made cause the young man wants to win.  Not mad if his parents want him to go to Maryville (great school / awesome coaching staff). Mad because the parents should have gone ahead and made the decision last spring instead of letting him go through summer drills, pre-season practice, and his first varsity game.  Is that fair?
