  1. Coach Counce knew what he was doing on that last scoring drive b/4 the half, running the ball so much. Some fans up next to me kept complaining that they were running so much on that drive. He knew that they were getting tired and they had not been in poisition to run the ball very much in the 1st half due to the flow of the game. Not to mention he was also setting other things up as well, that quick play-action pass to the TE was huge on that drive. In my mind that decision (to run the ball) was the turning point of the game.....

I was quite impressed w/ the passing scheme RW displayed, not quite at George Quarles level but good none the less. They had recievers running all over the field and the coaches were using their speed very well. That was very tough to defend I am sure. It started to break down when the big boys upfront started putting their hands on the hips and sucking wind. The protection just was not the same after that.....

HC, what can you say, depth, depth depth; that will give them an advantage over anyone they play. They are not quite as dominate as the HC that won it all in 2011, but I believe they could potentially be a better over-all team b/c of the QB and his ability to throw the ball. This makes them a little more balanced then the 2011 team. I am not saying the QB is a better player than Naji Rea (spelling?) but he is a better passer and his skillset gives them more balance. They have a very good chance to win state again this year, we will see.....

Exactly. I love the balance on offense with our best quality being running for sure. The threat of pass plus a 6'3/6'4 Wr with hands and basketball skill set is dangerous at the high school level. Also I like the TE play. I think the biggest problem I could think for now was taken care of last night as well. Which was.... could HCs back end and linebackers hold up against a passing attack. They answered that call. I really like this team the rest of the way. And yes I think we clean up the rest of district 10AAA with no problem. Which we should... and should ever year finish 1st or 2nd in a sub par football district. Just my opinion. I think the coaching staff can fine tune some of the mistakes if any through out the rest of the season and with a start like this 2011s team could have some company. Let's finish. Great job everyone involved in the football program.

  2. Wow. Give not only the credit to the players that got the job done, but also the coaching staff that has moved,  developed players, and schemes since coach Counce has taken over.... adjusting to his teams year to year. I did question last years first round out was simply not throwing the ball deep enough making other defenses at least have pass on their minds. This year. Problem solved. I think the play calling has other d coordinators on their toes and having to worry about two ways of getting beat. On the ground and through the air. Example Ridgeway loading the box and taking a shot downfield for a 40 yard rec.. The hurry up against Beech another great example of using a full week to prepare against your opponent. Good job and keep up the innovation.

  3.

Ehhh...I don't really see anything wrong with how we play. Our 1st round playoff exit was a result of youth in my opinion. Add to that it was on the road against an opponent that was likely underrated by the minds of our players. I wouldn't count on it happening again next year.

As for our style of play, keep in mind, our 2006, 2007, 2008, and probably even our 2005 and 2009 teams all passed the ball much better and more frequently than did the 2011 team, yet none of them were able to accomplish what the '11 team did. It's all about the talent and strengths of your players, and how they fit into the system and perform as a team.

Over all, I'd say our coaches do an excellent job of game planning to our players' strengths. It's just a matter of getting them to a point where they can execute consistently, and although we lost in the 1st round, we were becoming much more consistent late in the year. There is reason to be excited for 2013 and beyond.

Yes they most definetly played to their strenghts in 11'. Coaching staff made many adjustments from 2010 to 2011 with the players they had coming back.

I have no problem with the way they call I just think that style of play is built for a team like 11' and i dont see that type of team at all in even our up coming years.

I do think youth/ injuries was a huge part of the 1st round out.

And when I point out throwing more. I dont mean 23 attempts just more than 7. I know we are best running the ball but just a bluff/threat is going to open it up more. Id consider anything over 50% completion percentage is more threat than bluff too.

  4. I just hope he is talking about our Patriots. Im not doubting or checking olddevil at all. Im just ready to see more of a passing game go along with our already stout running game. Its already proved to be efficient now more attempts and balance could brew up another deep run for gold.

  5. I just hope he is talking about our Patriots. Im not doubting or checking olddevil at all. Im just ready to see more of a passing game go along with our already stout running game. Its already proved to be efficient now more attempts and balance could brew up another deep run for gold.

  6. I don't think you are talking about the Patriots when you talk about the 4th qb coming through being able to throw but maybe you are and I hope so olddevil. HC must develope more of a passing attack or we will be left for well...we will be waiting on the senior dominated team which could get 10 yards on a full back dive (i.e. 2011 state champs) which was a heck of a team and najee did throw well when needed. Also the D and special teams were great. The Patriots got bounced by a memphis team that threw the ball 23 times i believe to our 7 times and HC completed 4 of the 7 which begs me to ask why not throw more?. When HC gets the the playoffs we have to be better all around unless we have a team that can match the will of any team in the state like last year which it took a long time for that to come around.

  7. Being a Henry Co. fan what you pointed out about this year is true but that's with the two top teams in the district. With that being said I have to be real and let you know year in and year out 10 AAA football is not a tough district as a whole. Not just the top two teams because we know that on most friday nights HC and NE (I dont even want to mention Kenwood) will hang w/ just about everyone in 5A. As a whole 10 AAA is not a tough district. That is in my eyes because when I went to HC we were in the district with bigger Nashville schools like Brentwood and Franklin.

  8. So...First off, a final congratulations from me to the 2011 Patriots for all they accomplished. The District title, all the records they smashed, the undefeated season, and of course, the gold ball. The senior class is going to be a difficult one to replace to say the least. I wish each and every one of those young men the best of luck in their future. Several of them will be playing at the next level, and rightfully so. And to the ones who aren't, they will still always be able to say they were the first class to bring that elusive championship to HCHS. The ones who got over the hump! Best of luck to all of them...and excellent job on a fine 4 years. It's been a pleasure watching them compete.

Now, with that said; With all that we graduate, what are some of the expectations for next season? We have some good underclassmen returning, including a few who are starters, and some who've seen plenty of action despite not starting. Storme Hilliard and Trey Cowans both return in the secondary. Dennis Tharpe Jr. returns at linebacker and will spear-head this defense for the next 2 years. Some names to look out for next year are Chosen Tharpe, Corvez Nored, Malcolm Benau, Spencer Ward, and Michael Etheridge among others I'm forgetting. On offense we bring back a solid, solid runner in Jamari Curtis. Nathanial Godbott, who ran as hard as anyone everytime he got his chance last year will play a bigger role. And we have a young sophomore who might just rewrite the record books at HCHS if he stays with it. We bring back our tight end James Brooks, and a good receiver in Brandon Donaldson. Who takes over at QB? Randolph saw plenty of mop-up action last season, so he'll compete. The incoming sophomore Autman who led the Freshmen to an undefeated season this past year will compete. I've also heard Hilliard's name thrown around to take over the QB duties for next year (although I'd rather develop someone else, Storme's value to the defense and return game is irreplaceable). The biggest replacement for us next season will be both the offensive and defensive lines. Those two units were on a level I'm not sure I've ever seen before at HCHS. I think it has a lot to do with the "younger" Coach Counce and the S&C program he's brought with him. We'll be tough in the trenches as long as this staff is here, but still. Having to replace everyone on both lines will be a task.

The incoming sophomore class is loaded with size and speed. Very similar to the group of seniors we had this past year. There will be some noise made by plenty of the younguns' next year I'm sure.

All in all, it should be a good year. Not sure if it will be Cookeville good because of all we have to replace; But we'll still be a force to be reckoned with in District 10-AAA and beyond if we work hard this off season, develop the same "team first" attitude we had this past season, and improve over the course of the year.

Lets hear your thoughts Patriots fans! Its been a week. I know you're all not still hung over from last Friday night! :roflol:

    Good write up...better questions.

    1. With the depth of players and the program on the up I can see the Patriots losing 1 game if any in District 10 AAA next season. Saying that it sure would be exciting to see a power house 6A team on the non district schedule week 0 or week 1. Simply to keep the level of play seasoned and ready for tough tests down the road. Wouldn't it be nice to beat a Brentwood or Franklin. Just saying.

    2. Storme Hilliard- keep this play maker right at home. He plays with great confidence at DB and Kick and Punt returner something the Patriots fans haven't seen before this year. Use his ability at WR or RB/3rd down back even.

    3. Groom a QB. Calvin, Teague, and Najee all had more than one year at the spot each successful. The cream will rise to the top at that position.

    4. I would like to see Brandon Donaldson used at TE or H back however our coaches scheme it up. simply to give him more touches in our offense. Our coaches can find ways to split him back out at WR when need be. His size is just simply a mismatch agsinst any DB or LB.

    5. Our fronts should be ok. With our S&C at a great level our coaches should have plenty of boys to choose from in the spring and should be able to take district 10 with ease ...a deep playoff run is another issue...just a part of rebuilding.

I just touched on a few and of course my own opinion. Good stuff redswarm 10.

  9. Hillsboro's defense held a good MBA team to only 1 offensive touchdown.

Ive seen the MBA team this year they are quite huge up front...and always talented...Seen where they had one of the best D-lines in the nation as well....

Last year they had Chris Jordan..which is now at Alabama??

I believe 4A has to be the most exciting football in the state!

  10. 40 times are over rated. When I was coaching I cared about who could run the ball fast on the football field and who could catch a guy who was running fast on the football field. I didn't give a ---- about how fast a guy could run the 40!

40 times are over rated and they alone do not get you into college...but...every kid wants to have the fastest time and they have lots of fun with it, it's still used alot to determine different placements of players, and will always be talked about.

Saying that....when anyone gets on here and talks about 40 times...nobody can control someone getting on here and saying Teague or Gordon are faster than anybody in the world /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

My point they do matter, are used, and need to be talked about...

Chris Johnson will tell you they matter.....Who wants you and how much money you make /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

  11. BurroBall

How good is the the Hillsboro Defense??

If you were to grade the performance of Hillsboros D-Line, LB's and DB's what would you give them each??

Making it to the Final Four im sure you would give them a great report card!......Which I dont believe I would give Henry Co. anything below an A-... /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

  12. Crutcher and Jordan both have higher top speed than Gordon...Gordon is the quickest though. Crutcher is the best athlete HHS has despite the press Gordon gets. If they both go to the same school for college...look out! Btw, Crutcher finished top 5 in the 100m state track meet back in the spring. Zach Rogers of Lipscomb won of course.

Zach is that fast huh??? Could you see him starting over his brother at UT next year??

Crutcher is a soph., jr. ,or senior?

  13. That is what they list him at. He is 5 10 but he is about 180. And they said he runs a 4.5 but I've heard he has been timed at 4.3 a few times.

I believe that teague has not had any D1 track scholarship offers this season but i might be wrong..so im sure it's more of a 4.5....

weight probably right anywhere from 170-180

My info comes from Unapproved Website and im sure if he ran a 4.3 teague would want it on there ...marsalis himself would probably grin if you told him you heard he ran a 4.3...i hope to be wrong about this...lol

  14. well congrats to Teague on gettin an offer from Alabama. what's teagues size? most QB's have to have some height but i hear he's not to tall or big but is an amazing athelete, is that true?

i would think Footballfan15 would know how much people the bleachers can hold, but hes yet to show his name on this thread( he will eventually) but yeah burroball sounds about right. i would say abour 800 on the visitors side.

Teague is listed at 5'10 170 with a 4.5 fourty.

Teague will not wow you with his size or strength...but with making the right reads, speed, and vision...he is a great dual threat quarterback with tons of patience

He is also the punter!!! Lol and ive seen him kick a few spirals!!!

  15. Teague now has an offer from Alabama....after talking to coach saban...he would have the choice to play WR or DB for the tide... it was up to him..

Maybe we will see Teague and Gordon both suiting up for the tide next year?? Two of Tenn. best athletes!

Cant wait to see who they choose!

    GO PATS!!

  16. Most Henry Co. fans weren't saying those good things about Melrose before they played. I seem to recall many if not most of the Henry Co. faithful talkng about how they were going to kill Melrose.

I would not say most .....but a very small percentage

I have been to melrose...know the atmosphere... and have seen their talent level with my own eyes....tons of speed and not scared to hit...the list goes on....

Henry Co. fans/ players know how hard that game is going to be...

The ones that were calling the blow out have probably listened to the henry co. vs. melrose games on the radio! Not seeing how physical the games really are /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

  17. hope yall are worried about gordon. we've got 6+ other players who can go all the way for the TD

Of course Hillsboro has multiple threats...not only on offense but defense....Henry Co. fans know that if they witnessed the game between the two...2 years ago....Hillsboro is usually loaded with talent across the board....but with saying that Gordon is the boros spark on offense and heart on defense...

Henry Co. also has a multiple threat offense and defense

This game wil be a gold mine for recruiters!

  18. notes on Eric Gordon:

Gordon is a 4 star athlete he is 5'9 187 - Gordon has Alabama on top of his list of many D1 schools in the hunt for him. I??™m sure he will be a cornerback at the next level just like Teague

On offense he is a slasher who is used all over the field similar to Percy Harvin for UF...look for him to be put in motion to get his legs moving before the snap, swing routes getting him the ball quick, on toss and sweep plays . He has great acceleration, vision, hands, and is great deep threat in the passing game. He also is hard to wrap up. Every screen play that the Boros dial up their #3 will be getting his hands on the ball.

Defense- He has great pursuit and speed ??¦..he has a great feel on defense and he will be all around the ball....hits like a linebacker and tackles very well for a corner...great DB instinct against the pass...Henry Co. should be careful throwing it around him.

Special teams- look to see him as the premier return man??¦. loves to reverse the field!

Tips for Henry Co. containing Gordon

    1. On Defense Henry Co. MUST limit his yards after contact (Wrap up)

    2. Account for Gordon on every play (Know if you are throwing in his direction on D or where he is lined up on Offense)

    3. Stay in the their lanes on kick off and punt coverage

    4. Keep him from getting outside into open space.

  19. My name is Justin Stutzman and I pitched the last three innings of the battle between DC and HC. It was the best and craziest baseball game I've ever played in. Good luck to Rossview and DC in their first games of region. I hope they can make it far and represent our district well. Good Luck

  20. Henry County's field has a great playing surface ... But the facilities are horrible ... They also have a very good team but a lil too cocky ...

You know it seems hard for me to understand how an individual can call another team cocky...when he has the ego to call out how bad another team's field is. I mean correct me if i'm wrong..that's pretty cocky!! C Hudgins I think we could slam mckenzie's facilities as well..but that is not a priority on our to do list. A piece of advice for you..KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT..and follow some class acts on your team like DREW HAYES>>MARK GHYERS>>and JORDAN.

Henry County has a man by the name of Mark Archer who takes hours from his work to try to prepare our field for a game. All of our players are very appreciative of Mark's hard work, and for you to call out our field and facilities is a slap in Mark's face. I respect Mark too much for what he does to not defend him on this topic, but Hudgins QUIT THE SMALL TALK and show some class. :D

  21. Can somebody tell me how Henry County lost to McKenzie 12-1 when the game was rained out. So McKenzie why don't you check your schedule scores on coacht and correct that. Next thursday you'll be able to put up what really happens.
