  2. The Wildcats Finished 3rd in the YBOA tournament in Orlando Florida. They had to play 3 games on Friday and lost the 3rd game to Hollywood Florida. They beat every other team by at least 15 points. All the kids played well Tyrone Caldwell had an outstanding tournament and was voted to the all tournament team. Go Cats!!
  3. Another Interesting article Prospects show world is dribbling at NBA's doorstep SAN ANTONIO — In the summer of 1992, David Robinson and Tim Duncan could have exchanged curious glances for the first time. Robinson on his way to impose America's will on an international basketball uprising. It's no coincidence that so many of today's great talents were born outside the country, starting with the greatest, Duncan, who nearly quadruple-doubled the Nets into oblivion Sunday night and who represents one of the faces of a fundamental crisis in the Stateside game. Take a quick survey of your nearest mock draft. Every other name on the first-round board has been lifted from some Cold War spy novel. Guys named Pavel and Darko, Aleksandar and Boris. There are more prospects from Georgia, the republic, than Georgia, the university. Scouts aren't raving about someone named Magic (Johnson), but someone named Maciej (see Lampe, Poland). This year's Baby Shaq comes courtesy of Greece, a bull named Sofaklis Schortsanitis. And New Jersey's best hope to avoid becoming the Buffalo Bills? It's not a reminder to Kenyon Martin that people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw bricks, but a belief in 6-11 Nenad Krstic of Yugoslavia, last year's 24th pick. Scouts figure Krstic would have gone in the lottery in this year's draft, knocking down another American big man. What does it all mean? Someone should ask Larry Brown and Jeff Van Gundy, two coaches who could've had the Cavaliers job if they truly coveted it. Van Gundy picked Yao Ming over LeBron James. Brown picked Darko Milicic over LeBron James even after James courted Allen Iverson's ex. "There needs to be a message sent to our whole American program," Spurs GM R.C. Buford said outside the champions locker room late Sunday as he savored a cold beer and the warm memory of once drafting France's Parker at No. 28 and Argentina's Manu Ginobili at No. 57. "We've got to start developing basketball players and have a curriculum that breeds success. ... Every one of these foreign countries has a developmental program that's preached throughout their club teams, and so the teaching they get isn't SportsCenter highlights but plays like you see Tony and Manu making." Buford fell for Parker after watching him at a Final Four exhibition. The American players, Buford said, "were hooting and hollering after every basket." Parker? "Tony had a poise and maturity that was not very apparent elsewhere on the court." So will Americans ever get that message Buford was talking about? "If we keep getting our butts kicked," the GM said, "we will." After the USA lost to everyone but Grenada in the world championships in Indiana, the perfect peach-basket setting, George Karl agreed that European players were receiving better training and blamed "the greed of the NBA" for extinguishing the American players' fire. Now here comes the draft and another foreign invasion, another reason for Americans to re-evaluate their approach. It's high time to quit thinking that bouncing the ball off your opponent's forehead is the surest way to the rim.
  4. The Young Soldiers who lost in pool play to the Wildcats-Hoyas. Lost to the Southern coast stars in the championship game.
  5. Guys, I find it interesting how football guys always bring up football on a AAU basketball message board. Who cares if the kid plays football or not? The AAU basketball coach should not be involved in that decision anyway. That decision should be made first by the child with the parents approval. What if a child decides he really doesn't care that much for football and would like to concentrate on one sport? Regardless of whether that sport is basketball or tennis is this wrong? Most football coaches tell players who aren't primarily football players that they need to play multiple sports. Meaning Play Football. I really don’t care about football one-way or the other. If a kid wants to play great however if he wants to focus on one sport do you guys thank this is a bad decision for a 13-14-15 year old to make? If you do I would like to hear why?
  6. The Future lost in pool and lost in the 2nd game of the classic. Nike Select won one game. Shooting Stars did not win a game and were blown out in every game except one. YOMCA lost and can finish as high as 7th if the win two more games. Hoyas-Wildcats lost a close game to the Maryland rising stars and can finish as high as 6th if they win two more games. Oak Ridge has been eliminated.
  7. Yes, Tyrone is starting and has had some great games. He has lead the team in scoring 3 out of 5 games. The Hoyas and YOMCA both just won tuff games to move into the final 16. The Hoyas play the Maryland Rising stars at 6:55 if they win they advance to the final 8.
  8. Memphis YOMCA 4-0 is still undefeated in the nationals so is the Alabama Hoyas 4-0 . The Hoyas have 5 players from the Williamson county Wildcats, 4 are starting for them. Does anyone else have any information about any of the Tennessee teams participating in the AAU Nationals?
  9. grizzly You should really look at the trends. 10 years ago there were almost no European players in the NBA now it is like 30 percent. Every year for the last five years the number of Europeans selected in the first round has almost doubled. I have traveled to Europe and observed first hand some of their basketball clubs, which are quasi professional and yes it is definitely the fundamentals. Most of our AAU programs identify athletes at young ages and teach full court presses with traps not pull up jump shots, ball handling, passing or man defense. So at the Pro level where all players are big and good athletes the ones with the most skills get selected. Saying that the majority of great players still come from the USA. But why do you think we are seeing such a influx of European players when 10 years ago there were almost none?
  10. cobrafan90, I am a AAU coach and I agree with your post. However the real challenge is to follow the pattern of the European basketball schools in America. Remember they play year around with great coaching and focus on fundamentals. AAU-YBOA - whatever needs better coaching and less involvement from shoe companies and recruiters hyping kids and telling them how good they are. In my opinion this ruins young players for several reasons, first and foremost they usually are not that good and need lots of work on fundamentals. However because shoe companies and others are telling kids they are that good and AAU teams are always trying to recruit kids from other AAU-YBOA teams. Kids start to believe they are going to be NBA lottery picks and really don't need to work on fundamentals. I know this may sound funny to some of you but I have talked to several parents who assure me that their 12 or 13 year old son who is usually fairly athletic will play professional sports. Then they ruin any small chance he might have to play in college by not getting him into a program that could prepare him to compete at the next level. The end result of this will be more and more Europeans in the NBA draft.
  11. Coachkrispy, The Royals have a good team one of the best in the state. However Nike has the best 14 year old team in the state. The are the AAU and YBOA state champs. Nothing else needs to be said.
  12. The Williamson county Wildcats won the YBOA state beating The Future by 23 in a hard fought game. The Future stepped up and played hard. The game was close until the 4th quarter. 1. Wildcats 2. Future 3. ? 4. ? Either Oak Ridge or Memphis Golden eagles came in 3rd. All Tournament Team Wildcats Josh Henley Jeremey Armstrong Future Robert Ellison Marcus Jefferson MVP Tyrone Caldwell Wildcats
  13. Wildcats - Nashville Future - Nashville Oak Ridge will play the Memphis Golden Eagles
  14. Memphis Bellvue did not show up. The Wildcats beat Memphs Golden Eagles by 4 in a close game. The wildcats had 20 turnovers and were out rebounded by a much smaller team. You can;t overlook anyone. The Future beat Oak Ridge on a last second shot and will face the Wildcats Tommorow for the state championship.
  15. First Round Oak Ridge won by forfit Future beat Mempis Elite by 3 Wildcats beat Tarheels by a lot Golden Eagles beat the Steam by 30 Second Round Steam beat Tarheels by 30 Wildcats beat Eagles by 4 Future beat Oak Ridge by 2
  16. Has anyone seen the Tarheels play? How did they do against Oak Ridge in the east sub-state? Do they have a chance to win the YBOA state?
  17. Tell us who you would rate in the top 5 shooting guards and small forwards in u13. Tell us why you would rank your picks in the top 5.
  18. AIRNIKE, I would rate Auri Allen as the top big man in the state. He is only 12 years old. He is almost 6'10" will probably end up at 7'2". He has soft hands good feet and has great skills for his age. The big question is will he work hard enough to get in great shape? If he does he will be unstoppable. Others on the List Mike Mcadoo good athlete needs lots of work on fundamentals AJ Green decent fundamentals needs to continue to work on foot work and quickness
  19. Aqua, I am posting the first games only. Top Bracket Oak Ridge Bulls Woodland Middle @ 7:00 June 6 Memphis Warriors Memphis Elite Woodland Middle @ 10:00 June 6 The Future Lower Bracket Wildcats Woodland Middle @ 8:00 June 7 Tar Heels Memphis Golden Eagles Woodland Middle @ 12:30 June 7 Chattanooga Steam
  20. AE, I do not have the brackets but I have talked to the state coordinator he gave me the list of teams mentioned above.
  21. The following teams have qualified for YBOA state. Tell us who you pick and why. 1. Oakridge Bulls 2. Tennessee TarHeels 3. Chattanooga Steam 1. Wildcats 2. Future 1. Memphis Golden Eagles 2. Memphis Elite 3. Memphis Bellvue
  22. JJ, The Chattanooga Steam is very talented again this year; they are well coached and always play hard. As far as the Wildcats having the best starting five in the state I doubt it. All of the Wildcat players including their point guard need to continue to work hard so they can continue improving. All of the Wildcat players have fundamental weaknesses in their games and will not be great high school players without lots of hard work and dedication. The Wildcats still have not won a big tournament this year. They were second in the BCI and Second in AAU. Lets see if they can step up next week in YBOA state. Less talk more action would be appropriate.
  23. I am not sure who all the teams are I have heard that there will be 8 teams the ones I know about are listed below. The Future Nike or Shooting Stars Wildcats Oak Ridge Chattanooga Steam Cleveland Stars Top two teams out of the Memphis substate
