  1. I played ball in Virginia in the early 80's, but did live in Carthage in the late 80's. Didn't really start watching their games till early 90's.I am more interested now though and keep up with the Owls. Hope they win Friday. Been a rough week.
  2. Big week for the Owls. Get ready for the last half. Put that loss behind you and finish strong. I predict 3-0 this week, but really don't know much about Hartsville and DeKalb. Who can tell me about Hartsville starting five? Do they present a serious foe. I have heard they are competitive.
  3. Do you mean Austin would have started or been sixth man as a freshman or now? Austin is good. I don't know if Spivey would have started him as a freshman, but I do know he would have started Friday night and every other night for the Owls this year. He is as good a player as either team has had in the last five years. He and Sleeper are both good. Who's better? Doesn't really matter. Both players have qualities that make them good. I'm glad we have Sleeper, wish we had Austin, but wouldn't trade. (except Austin has one more year? ) bilcot, have you lost your mind? Those two schools will never, I mean never be consolidated. As much as some of us know it would be advantageous for the athletic programs and the academics, the people would never go for it. The new schools being built guarantee that for at least 40 years. The older I get (not fifty yet) I even find myself glad this county has two schools. Gordonsville has many good people who support their school as does SCHS. I don't blame them for wanting to keep their identity as a small ,rural school and community. There is something to be said for that. It really doesn't hurt anybody. I truly believe good educations and high school experiences can be had as it is today. Go OWLS!
  4. Good Lord! What a game. I think the only thing better that beating G-ville is beating them on their floor when they thought they had it won. The game has two halves, and they both count. The second was 49-24,OWLS, in their gym, on their floor, with their fans drooling thinking it was over. But ohh the look in their eyes when Glover and Sleeper and Oliver and Winklers ( M&M ) and Taylor ripped their hearts out and tromped the mighty Tigers. And all this talk about Sleeper and his attitude, well all he did is back his talk up. Those Tiger tails were tucked pretty tight when it was over. I sat in the middle of that old gym near the top and thought to myself of all the rivalry down on that floor, of all the games between these schools, and wondered if the rest of the world understands what it means. Probably not, but we do. By the way, Austin is good. By the way, OWLS won. PERIOD. See you in August.
  5. Hoopngal, You started this thread? Why do you want to end it? [Edited by patiotime on 12-20-02 8:26A]
  6. No, Michael. That is the funniest thing I've ever seen on coacht.
  7. The assistant is a lawyer named Collins. He played back in the 80/90 era of boys state teams. Dodgen is a good coach, needs some time. The girls ( from what I've seen ) are talent heavy in the 9/10 classes, but need experience. The question is at what point do you start playing freshmen all the time even if it means losing in order to prepare for the future? Dodgen won't stay long if something opens up back east that's right for him, but this young group of girls can make some noise about two years from now. Dodgen is an idiot if he leaves before then.
  8. Rupp, did you coach in Smith Co. back in the 80's? If you did that means you left right before they went to the state two out of three years. Why did you leave with that talent sitting on the bench getting ready to explode?
  9. I can not believe some people think G-ville could hang with THE SMITH COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL. This will end-up an ugly one one. OWLS by at least 20. Rupp, you better back off the asst. coach. GOT a temper, I've seen it. He's all quiet and stuff in public, but don't get on his bad side and end up somewhere just the two of you with no witnesses. I'll pray for ya.
  10. I would love to say Smith will win, but York should. They are definitely better.
  11. Cannon boxed him, then fouled him,but 12 assists, 17-18 from the line(14-14) in the fourth. Owls win, Sleeper goes for over a thousand in his career. Sleeper made a statement. Winkler, Mike 14 in the first half while Sleeper was being dogged. Cannon played well though. Good team. This district is up for grabs looks like.
  12. If their is one player better, it's Tate. I agree. I will be glad to see Tate back. It is fun to watch those two on the floor playing each other. York gets drilled by Livingston, would Tate have made it a York win?? I was at the Jackson/Smith game and didn't see the score till Sat. I said WOW.
  13. Yes, I do believe Sleeper was the best player on the floor those nights, that's why I posted it. I do think Carthage has some other fine players as I do the other teams. Yes, Sleeper does not always play smart, but more often than not he helps his team and hurts the opponent. I look for him to hurt Cannon with his play. He won't be perfect though. It will be a close game, like I said 5 pts. either way. Shaqdaddy-- I agree, would rather have a good team, but it is difficult to have a good team with no good players.. 14. Yea, all players have off nights, but Sleeper needs to learn when to shoot and when not to. I will say that I will take him every night on my team. He may hurt from timr to time, but in the end, you want him on your team, you need him on your team!! I promise you every coach in the district mentions his name more than once in practice. The good thing is Winklers, Glover and Oliver can hold their own. This can only mean that when they play together wins will result...
