  1. I suggest that you eat at Ridgewood BBQ. Look them up on the web. Don't judge the food by the look of the building. Best BBQ anywhere.
  2. Wow....Alcoa is not exciting? You haven’t seen them play very often. Alcoa always has athletes that are capable of big plays. As for Rankin being the best, well that’s anyone opinion, however to discredit him because Alcoa kids work hard to get bigger and stronger sounds a little ridiculous. He has had a big part of the improvement in the weight program. He has instilled a consistent discipline into the kids. As for the ability to make a big call or win a game, I guess you missed Vee Hambricks run to win the game in the closing moments of the Maryville game last year. BTW Maryville has a pretty solid program and tradition in case you haven’t heard of them.
  3. Alcoa 42-14 less than two minutes to go
  4. I have a friend that has two sons on John Reid??™s East Paulding Raiders. We have discussed the possibility of an Alcoa verses East Paulding game maybe in Chattanooga. The problem is they have 10 district games in an 11 game regular season. While I think it would be great, I just don??™t see it taking place.
  5. At the half--------Alcoa 28 -White House 0. I guess the wet field is helping keep it close.
  6. Please remind us of what has happened with Pittser. He will be in our prayers. Have a safe trip to Alcoa tonight.
  7. Have heard from folks in Alabama that Coach Rankin is interviewing for the Russellville High job. Anyone have any information? Heard he's not at school. http://www.al.com/forums/hsfootball5a/
  8. Does that mean you would have beat the Alcoa team the last two years? I don't think so! Only Maryville can say that they did----you opted to bow out of the chance. You might compete with this year but no guarantee you could beat this years team. 3point loss to the (my prediction) soon to be 4A state champ, and a 3point loss to the (my prediction) soon to be 3a state champ. I don't think it's real to think that you would have won either year. Given that Maryville was the best TEAM in Tennessee in any class, (while true it hurts me to say it) several "experts", not high school kids said Alcoa was one of the best in any class. Maryville fans may say Melrose was better and maybe their right but I didn't hear WB mentioned in that same conversation. I think Scott will improve the WB program to a consistent winner, but to say Alcoa wouldn't have won against WB lately is foolish.
  9. RebelRon, In two seperate threads you have said the the Aluminum Company pumps in a whole lot of money into the Alcoa school system. The school system has a budget approved and financed by the city comission. Alcoa did provide land to the school system for a beautiful baseball/softball complex. They also provided additional funding toward that project. They however do not "pump" money into the football coaches salary as you have implied., they only pay taxes like all businesses in Alcoa do. Alcoa like Maryville have well respected school systems that pay above the state average. We are fortunate to have quality teachers and administrators in both systems. That they are also blessed to have great coaches is a bonus.
  10. RebelRon-- I normally enjoy your commentary on local sports. To say that you believe the only reason Alcoa hired Rankin is to beat Maryville lacks your normal good sense. Rankin was the best coach for the Alcoa job period. I will not say better than GQ because I have respect for the success that he has had at Maryville. Again, it seems arrogant that you feel that the only concern for Alcoa football is to beat Maryville. I enjoy the game, but would not trade any Championship we have to beat Maryville every year.
  11. Congrats to Tyner on a fine football game. Your kids played hard for 48 minutes. I enjoyed your band, wish they had played a half time show. To our friends from Maryville-FBE and krakatoa stick to predictions and opinions on Maryville football. To the rest of the Maryville fans, congratulations on your win.
  12. I didn't see Maryville's game so I won't post my opinion about that. If you didn't see Alcoa's game don't post your critical, Maryville slanted opinion about it!
  13. Obviously you were not at the game. The GP quaterback had 2 or 3 sack fumbles that Alcoa picked up and scored on. He also had a tough night throwing the ball as Alcoa intercepted 3 or 4 for touchdowns. Alcoa played reserves about halfway into the second quarter and all of the second half. I would guess that the Alcoa starters ran less than 10 offensive plays. A freshman had an interception for a touchdown in the second half. I guess that you would have told him to take a knee. I can understand how you could look at the score and assume that the coaches ran up the score, but I was there and that was not the case.
  14. FBE, Once again you show your bias against Alcoa. I believe that Alcoa is only two gold balls behind Maryville, yet you are never able to give Alcoa any credit. Alcoa has a winning tradition. Alcoa year in and year out has had competitive teams with very few exceptions.
  15. Do you know if David Baumann coached William Blount. I was told he was suspended for 2 games and fined $250.00 for getting his second technical after the Alcoa game. I thought the first tech really hurt his team in a close game. His after game display was a poor representaion of William Blount and Alcoa (that is where he graduated from). Back to the original question--the Eakins kid for WB can shoot the lights out.
