1. I also saw a coach have to pay for some of his own players in uniform to get in the game. The gatekeepers absolutely were not going to let them in the game without paying. What is wrong with these people? If I were taking tickets at the gate, that would be one time where common sense would have to rule over "rules". The TSSAA needs to do a better job in instructing these workers in common sense and goodwill.

You need to get your facts right and your coach should follow the roster rule for state tournament. The host schools are instructed and the head coaches are told that on a certain number of kids are allowed on the roster, all others have to pay to get in. Head coaches know this up front. If you want to blame someone blame the head coach or tssaa for the rule. The volunteers are just doing what they are told.

  2. I realize this is a high school based site, but struggling to find this info.

I am looking for the guidlines for middle school ball. I have looked on the tssaa site, and it wasn't much help.

We have new coaches who are not certain of all the rules for pitching, substituting and such.

Anyone have suggestions on where to begin looking for this information?

And another quick question, if the starting pitcher of a game is pulled from that position, and put in the field, can he re-enter as a pitcher later in the game?

It has always been my understanding that no, he can not, but this occured in a game recently, and our coaches didn't know, and after shrugging their shoulders and asking the ump, he said it was permitted.

Personally, I think he just said that to get on with the game, and because the coaches obviously had no idea.

Here is the pitching rule for middle school found on the TSSAA website. As for substituting and general rules, your coach needs to contact the TSSAA office and purchase a copy of the NFHS rules book. Hope this helps.

  3. Wrong. The Church of Christ is NOT a demonination. It is the church that was established following the resurrection. Denominations are what have come from people that have split from the original new testament law and chosen to follow a somewhat different path to their hopeful salvation.

People make that wrongful distinction all the time.

You might want to double check, you are the one that is wrong. Do an internet search for world religions and Church of Christ will not show up as a religion. As i said before, Church of Christ is a denomination of Christianity. Same as Baptist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, etc.

  4. that takes away an all state spot from someone who deserves it that played in the outfield. like matt tidwell from creek wood. and im sure there is more.

If Matt Tidwell didn't make all-state then i'm not sure how much stock anyone should put in the "all-state" team. Matt is a terrific kid and an extremely talented player

  5. QUOTE(cutoff @ Apr 19 2007 - 09:41 AM) 826441027TSSAA is confusing, I would initially agree that JV is not sanctioned and here is an excerpt from their website:

At the junior varsity or B-Team level, the only eligibility rules that apply are those in Sections 1 (Enrollment), 2 through 4 (Academic Rules), 5 (High School Graduate), 6 (Eight-Semester Rule), 7 (Repeating Rule), 8 (Eighth Grade Participation), 9 (Age Limit), and 10 (Physical Examination and Parental Consent). At the varsity level, all eligibility rules apply.

Jv players would be inelgible unless they moved into another school zone. Jv players are turned in on elgibility lists to the TSSAA just the same as varstiy players.

  6. QUOTE(TIGERLEFTY22 @ Feb 11 2007 - 01:50 PM) 826367360what do yall think about how it will turn out

Polk county will win this district. They have their left handed backcatcher returning and he is very good at picking off runners at first. They also start a left hander at SS who has just about perfected the double play pivot. The slow roller gives him fits, but he does his best. Their coach is a stubborn ole cuss, but very good. I once saw him coach an entire DH with a broke toe from kicking the bat holder in the first inning of the DH. I even heard he tried to run off a Gatorade All-American at some school he was at in Morgan county. Go wildcats!!!! And oh yeah, watch out for the sandwhich play and the hidden ball trick.

  7. QUOTE(lhsthirdbase2 @ Mar 1 2007 - 06:56 PM) 826395730lebanon will be one of the top three teams in the distric and next year and the next they will be the top team. weve got tons of young talent. weve playd several preason games and we look very strong

So does everyone else. Other teams just have veterans in front of the young guys and once they are gone you will see the other schools young talent.

  8. QUOTE(GoldGloveInLF @ Feb 22 2007 - 12:08 PM) 826384537Even if Franklin Co. does have one of their worst teams in years, 26-5 is impressive unless your playing a school for the blind. lol. Not only that but scoring 28 runs against LaVergne and then beating friendship christian 12-1 this Riverdale team is good. Combined 65-8 scoring is not bad at all.

Guys it is a scrimmage. Players are playing right now that will never step foot on the field in a regular season contest. Some guys are still in basketball as well or just got out. Heck, some teams without tarps may have only been on the field one or two times. Not all coaches game plan to win a scrimmage. The fact that you know the scores so well is kind of funny. Still too early to tell. One injury could change everything.

  9. QUOTE(BigDoobie_10 @ Feb 21 2007 - 01:15 PM) 826382991I'm on the baseball team and I do believe he is. But he has to get out of basketball first.

Columbia will win 8AAA. They are well coached and a very good ball club.

  10. QUOTE(blackmanpride08 @ Feb 13 2007 - 08:12 PM) 826370716

except against good hitting teams like the Blaze

Blackmanpride08 you have absolutely no clue at all as to what you are talking about. I am sure the team would appreciate you keeping your mouth shut and not talking trash that THEY, not YOU, will be expected to back up. No way to predict what will happen in the district. Blackman will play good baseball as will most all teams in 7AAA.

  11. I agree Brad Howard was probably the best single player ever to come out of Morgan County, probably one of the top HS pitchers ever in TN. He was one of those once in a lifetime players to come through the area. The best fastball I ever personally faced. He basically carried Oakdale to the state tourney in 1995. If he had not had arm problems at MT, I believe he would have eventually had a great career professionally.

The year you are refering to was 1994. They didn't make it in 1995. In 1994 they got beat by Adamsville and Goodpasture. If I am not mistaken he holds the career strikeout record for a career in the state of Tennessee. I don't really see it ever being broke because he played 5 years of HS baseball. He also threw a no hitter his freshman year at MT.

  12. we only lost one starter to(micheal paul) and we never threw micheal paul against sunbright and we still killed them. i think it will come down to coalfield and os.

I haven't followed Morgan County baseball in 10 years, but the name Brad Howard sure does bring back some memories. He was a heck of a pitcher and even a better person. Coalfield and Oakdale used to be the teams to beat in the mid nineties. If the format would have been the way it is now with only having to win on Monday and Friday, Oakdale and Coalfield may have gone to the State several years in a row. Coach Lowe and Coach Triplett used to do one heck of a job of getting their teams ready to play.

  13. The Polk County Wildcats had a great donation by Bradley County business man Toby McKenzie to finall get a baseball field ON campus.  The Wildcats have never played a home game on a PCHS campus and they will next season.  If anyone else knows what else is going on at Polk just post cause i try to follow Triplett and his team as much as i can but i have my own team to coach but Congrats PCHS and thank you Toby

    825690057

I have known coach Triplett for a long time and he does a great job. He keeps everything in perspective. Most of his players go on to be very successful after they finish their playing careers. He will get Polk going in the right direction.

  14. the memphis newspaper said the tssaa like murfreesboro and lower middle tenneessee so baseball tourny would be at grider stadium in tullahoma and gamble sportsplex in winchester

    825680652

The demensions at Grider stadium are very small for a state tourney to be hosted their.

  15. What are the chances that the tourney will come to the 'boro? Blackman, Oakland, MTSU, and Riverdale are all fine places to play ball. With all having indoor hitting facilities, teams would have a definite place to hit before the game as opposed to having to find places to hit. But, with the T$$AA it is all about the all mighty dollar.

  16. The profanity rule was not enforced by umpires in the games I watched this year. In one game 2 players were heard by the umpires using profanity and nothing was done. Umpires should not be allowed to choose which rules they want to enforce. The profanity issue was talked about in great detail at the rules meeting. Why have the rule if it isn't going to be enforced?

  17. If Cookeville and Riverdale split, the two teams that reach the tournament finals will advance to the region, with the final game deciding who travels and who stays at home.

If one or the other sweeps, they get the automatic berth and then whoever wins the tournament (or finishes second if regular season winner wins tourney) also advances.

If Cookeville and Riverdale split, Riverdale will be the #1 seed due to the tie-breaker of losing to a higher seeded team.

If the season ended today, the district tournament would be:

    at Riverdale:

    Oakland vs Blackman

    White Co vs Riverdale

    at Cookeville:

    Lebanon vs Warren Co

    Siegel vs Cookeville

but two more games to go (3 for Warren County and White County)

    825662848

The first tie breaker is head to head and the second one is how you did against other common opponents top to bottom. So if they split R'dale would finish 2nd because they lost to Warren Co. and Cookeville beat them twice.

  18. 1)  First, 8th grade is bound by high school elgibility requirements.

    2)  Second, he would have 3 years of elgibility remaining whether he plays 9th ,    10th, and 11th grades or 10th , 11th, and 12th grade.

    3)  You cannot play 5 years of high school varsity athletics in any sport.

    4)  This is exactly why parents need to be sure of rules when they take students out of the public school system and then for whatever reason want to put them back into public schools.  The grass is not always greener on the other side.

    825649527

You can play 5 years of HS baseball. You are incorrect. I know because I did play 5 years of HS baseball. A lot of small single A schools that are k-12 are allowed to have 8th graders on their varsity team. I played 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th. Unless the rules have changed.
