  1. Did I say I had any affiliation with Hillsboro? I actually went to that game to watch Franklin. All I know is what I saw. What's your point about Independence? I know they have some talented sophomores & juniors and will be a team to be seriously reckoned with in the future. That's good to hear about Kuchar, BTW. He's a nice player. MY point is that this district is way more balanced than last year and anybody has a shot at anybody else on a given day. Evidently, Hillsboro must be doing something right. I heard they beat McGavock & Tom Wright 2-0 today.
  2. Saw that. Think they faced 2 freshman pitchers, though. Hear Independence has some really big sophomores. Also heard that Kuchar quit the team.
  3. Well, if that was Franklin's first 7 inning game of the year, that's their coach's fault. That's called not being prepared. The game I saw, Hillsboro made 3 errors (2 outfield, 1 infield) that led to Franklin runs. Franklin also had the tying run on 3rd in the 6th with no outs & in the 7th with 2 outs and both times, Hillsboro players made plays to keep the run from scoring. Sounds to me like you flat got beat and don't want to admit it. If Barnett shut Franklin down, what's Francescon and Goodenow going to do?
  4. Agreed. I have watched Peyton Pratt (that's his name) play since he was 12 and he can take anybody deep. He might not lead Forrest in BA but he'll be up there. A quality young man, too.

    11AAA Scores

Lipscomb @ Hillsboro was rained out on Monday, Hillsboro beat Franklin 5-4 and Ravenwood beat Independence 7-6 on Wednesday.
  6. Watched Hillsboro beat Franklin 5-4 Wednesday afternoon. Todd Barnett of the Burros was masterful on the bump and executed a suicide squeeze to perfection. His battery mate, Josh Dunn, put on a blocking & framing clinic behind the plate as did Casey Dykes of Franklin. Not gonna see much better high school catching than I did yesterday. The Rebels still have the big bats from 1 thru 9 but don't appear to have quite the pitching they did last year on their way to State. Looks the 11-AAA race is wide open this year.
  7. Seth Williams of Brentwood. Maybe the best pitching prospect in the Mid-State. Great command of his pitches, very level-headed & gutsy and can help himself with the bat, too. Great kid on top of all of that.

    Best QB in 2003

Michael Fisher- MBA. Great field general with an absolute gun for an arm. Runs Jeff Rutledge's no-huddle offense to perfection.
  9. Yup---remember it well. Big John Wade could play, couldn't he? I was at BHS with his older bro, Frank. Do you remember Henry Thompson in '71-72? For 1 year, he was as good as any HS running back I've ever seen---about 1700 yds rushing and 27 TDs. Scored 6 TDs at Hohenwald on 6 touches---1 KO return, 2 punt returns and 3 long runs. Don't think he liked school much, though
  10. May have been. I know he's only been playing here in the mid-state for about 2-3 years. The family is originally from Louisiana. He and Josh Dunn were the 2 catchers for the 14-U USA Warriors in the MSABA.
  11. Scrappy, you are correct, sir. Didn't Bush take over as Defensive Coordinator at the same time Jim Crawford took over as head coach (73?) And yes, I guarantee that he had a LOT of help from Coach Hall if he coached Girls Track. Are you sure that you're not an ol' Bellevue boy?
  12. Best ones I have seen (at least in summer ball) are: Paul LeGuenec - Father Ryan Josh Dunn - MBA Boomer Geoffrion - Overton Any others? [Edited by 72owl on 1-7-03 12:56P]
  13. Ray Ridgeway - Head Coach at MBA after Tommy Owen's first stint Wayne Bush - Assistant FB coach at Bellevue in '71-'72. Can't remember if he was ever a head coach. Has he passed on? Carroll Allen - Assistant FB coach and assistant girls BB coach at Bellevue in early '70s. May have also been head baseball coach. Also, didn't Pearl & Maplewood play in either the 1968 or 1969 Clinic Bowl at VU? Seems like I remember seeing Jeff Woodcock play in that game... What a great thread!! 14. To set the record straight, Coach Gordon did not make the decision to reschedule! As proper procedure and responsibility calls for, the decision was made by the Director of University School and the Athletic Director. Coach Gordon was consulted and responded that either way was acceptable to him. The decision was made with only the safety and security of students in mind. Our students come first, not an athletic contest. And for those that choose to use this forum to "belittle" Coach Gordon, have you met the man? He is a decent and righteous person and he is all about family and his players. I had to think long and hard about replying but the degradation was reaching a level that warranted such. Leave the game to the student/athletes and coaches. Remember, it is just a game!
  15. Keep an eye on Cori McVeigh from University High, Johnson City! Just a sophomore!
