  1. it's ok cb56, mistakes are common, especially on these boards.
  2. cb56, according to the brackets posted on TSSAA website, Derek Walker is wrestling for Baylor at 189 which will be against Mike. Timothy Moore is in Nick Marable's bracket at 152, they should meet in the semi's
  3. greco means nothing, there is no shooting, ankle pics, or any other leg attack in greco. if you haven't seen marable wrestle, that is his forte, leg attacks. He has one of the most impressive shots i've ever seen, i don't see him losing to anyone at state this year, including Spencer Manley
  4. bobjones, i agree with two exceptions: 152:Marable dec. Manley 171:Stark dec. Simpson Marable and Manley getting best match but i think Nick comes out on top, he is in great shape and I haven't seen anybody as fast as him since Charles McTorry. Not to mention he is as technically sound as most anybody around.
  5. Briarcrest lost to houston by 6 without their 152 and with a backup 103 wrestling 112 but i guess all speculation will be over after tomorrows events
  6. some new results on Briarcrest, they won 3 matches today, with cbhs (jv), Catholic, and Kingsbury
  7. at 215 Brandon Jackson from Br. has already beaten Joey friend, Brooks Swanquist is back and 189 but I haven't seen Mus's 89. Briarcrest has a full team now, there were several people out injured or sick at c'ville the other night
  8. As far as the short bald ref named David, He has officiated matches that I wrestled in and coached in, I have never had a problem with him. He has, for the most part, been consistent in his calls. Although he does have a tendency to joke around I have never seen him do it after the whistle blows to start the wrestling. It seems to me that he jokes as an attempt to help relax the wrestlers, especially when there are extremely inexperienced wrestlers involved. Is he the best ref in the state? probably not, but he is at the very least consistent and has good motives, the kids!!
  9. Briarcrest beat mus earlier in the year and has filled in weight classes since then, I think Briarcrest pulls it off and goes to state for the first time in a while
  10. I personally would love to see bradley and mccallie wrestle, i think it would be a great match. I would think the bradley coach or the mccallie coach would jump at the chance to be the undisputed state champ this year. After all we haven't had a true state champ, individual or team in several years. The separation was horrible for the sport and in my opinion should have never happened. I just wish we could name a state champion that was actually the best in the state, not two first's, that taks a lot of the meaning out of it
  11. Scott Wells is playing football for UT, I can't remember what position, maybe someone else knows and if i can think of it ill get back with you
  12. I live in Memphis and have a friend who has a 4 year old child and is wanting to get him involved in wrestling as soon as possible. I was wondering if there is an elementary program where he could learn to wrestle and get into competitions with children his age. If there isn't a program for kids his age what is the youngest age a child can start and where.
  13. I wrestled John Smith at camp at Ok. St. and he beat my brains out. As for the best high school wrestler it would have to be Jonathan Leddy, I wrestled him twice my senior year at 189 and i got pinned once and lost 7-4 once. He was definitly the best 189 i've seen in a while.
  14. what about Jeff Blancett who coached Harding Academy about 4 years ago but went to CBHS leaving his assistant loaded with 11 seniors that all started inhigh school not middle school. of the kids he left with his former assistant(Andy Nutt another coach who shws a lot of class) with, 9 state medals were brought home to memphis at the 2000 individual state tournament. He not only brought good technique and skill but he also brought class and tact, something a lot of coaches throw out the window, i wont name any names, im sure yo all who have been around for awhileknow who they are. By tact i mean losing as graciously as you win.
  15. bryant, no ones doubting that you are a good wrestler, noones doubting that your brother, quinn, or your cousins were good, all they are saying, it seems to me, and what i am saying is that there just might be someone out there that can beat you
  16. let me go ahead and respond to some moron who will end up saying Brugle and Crosby had a close match in the finals last year. it was a low scoring match because of brugle's strength but Crosby controlled him the entire match. The points were close but they in no way reflect the beating Crosby put on him.
  17. i can't disagree with any of the div.1 picks except for heavyweight. Brugle, although he doesn't have great speed or technique, i feel is a force to be reconed with becaue he is absolutely HUGE. He has the most impressive physique i have ever seen on a high school athlete. i don't think has a whole lot of a chance of beating Crosby because he is who i would pick to be the best, well 2nd best to scott wells of Brentwood academy, of the last decade. Pennington is also pretty great but whoever gets Crosby in the final or earlier is gonna get rocked.
  18. for the record, i get the pleasure of working out with Michael Marable fairly often and in my opinion there's noone in the state, that is currently wrestling, that can wrestle with him. And he's only a junior. I feel that by the end of his senior year he will have better technique, speed, and strength than that of Rusty Blackmon did at the end of his high school career. As for matching Rusty and Michael up now, don't you think that a couple years wrestling at a major div. 1 college should put him above most any wrestler in high school. If it didn't then he had no business being there in the first place.
  19. 189 is definitely one of the weakest weight classes around. It is weaker than it has been in years. many of the kids are nothing but muscle and some speed. Where's the technique. As for Leavy Davis, he's good because he beats everybody. But lets remember that he is winning in a very weak weight class. Leavy wins because he intimidates people not because he has outstanding talent, but because his physique scares everyone. To all those who may wrestle him he is mostly just a descent double leg, and a good ankle pic. you shoot you beat him. Im just about as sick of hearing about Leavy as i am hearing about Brugle!
