Great win for Central tonight. When we are able to get into our offense and get it to our scorers (Hess, Baker and McCann) this team can play with anyone. DB doesn't look like the same team as last year. I know that getting back Coty will help but they just didn't seem to have any fire. I was especially disappointed in Throp. While Coty was the scorer last year Throp was the guy who made the tough baskets and got the hustle plays and seemed to always hit the big shot when a team was making a run or when his team needed a big basket. He just look frustrated out their tonight. Another person I think DB is missing is Will Henry. While he was not a great shooter he was the guy who shut the other team guard down and made it hard for them to get into their offense and got the other guys on the team fired up.

The Big 9 had teams last year that didn't make the regionals who would have finished 2nd or 3rd in the IMAC last year (TN High, Volunteer) IMAC had the best team last year (Greeneville) but top to bottom the Big 9 was a lot stronger. For this year, it is too early to tell. But if Cherokee is a front runner then I would hate to see one of the weaker teams. Central scrimmaged them and beat them by about 20 and Crockett played them in the jamboree and beat them by about 16.

And AGAIN with all the hype around Omar he will be unable to lead his team to the state...

Central played Redbank tough at camp this summer at UTC and it was a pretty heated game. Central pretty much has to play mistake free basketball and start shooting the ball better than they have so far this year to have a chance tonight.

I have played againist Blake at the Y a few times and it is amazing what he can do. Great kid too.

I don't know how official that score is. We will see how your prediction of SH being the only contender in the conference ends up. Remember, you thought TN High was a state title contending team last year and we know how that turned out.

Two good things from that game last night. One, Baker showed why he is going to be one of the top players in the league this year. Two, Central played as bad as they have played since the SH game last season at home and they were still in the ball game. This game almost exactly mirrored the first time Central played SH last season. That being said if Central doesn't start to get some consitent ball handling and start getting into some kind of offense when the fast break isn't there, this will be a long season.

Who was missing? Was the score that bad most of the game? I figured Volunteer would give DB a good game without Coty in the lineup.

No doubt it is going to be a tough game. Hess is going to do his thing, for Central to be competitive in this game they need a big game from Baker both offensively and defensively. McCroskey and Rock need to step up and hit some threes. The post need to play smart (McCann and Webb) and the whole team has to be able to handle Science Hill's patented "Karate Defense".

No you are not a sports fan. There are only certain teams in this area you will give credit to. You never pulled for Central when they went to the state 2 years ago and you didn't pull for them in the regional after your vikes didn't even make it past the districts...admit it. If a team doesn't fit your perception of what a basketball team should play or look like you bash them on here.

So you have fun when someone else beats Central? Well I guess if my whole family could never beat a team I would be happy when that team gets beat too.

Well here is something about the conference in a way, how in the heck did North beat South? 1. DB 2. SH 3. Central 4. TN High 5. Volunteer 6. Crockett 7. South 8. Daniel Boone 9. East And I agree that 3-7 could be in any order. Also DB and SH could flip flop as well.

Just because you coached an AAU team with this sophmore class doesn't mean they are any good. If Sylvester is a D1 prospect then I can go up to the Y in KPT and field the next starting lineup for Duke. Don't get me wrong he has some skills but to say a 5'9 guard that doesn't play point is a D1 prospect you are just kidding yourself. Do you think Coach Morgan wants to lose? He is going to put the players on the floor that are going to give him the best chance to win.

Would it be better if it was just one person posting under 3 different screen names instead? You know, like how you post under Cap1, 1tshelley and VikingVoice?

Bottom line...Sylvester is not better than Throp or Sensabaugh this year. Its that simple. Playing him this year over them would make him better but not the team. He has 2 more years after this one to be featured. Get over it. Do you really think that the players like Throp and other who get taunted during the game hate it? No, they love it. It fires them up and gives them more incentive to play harder to try and stick it to those fans. Ten years from now when they are talking about their high school playing days they will laugh and talk about all the trash the fans said to them. Quit trying to make a big deal out of something Cap1.

I think DB did pretty well last year without him. He will be a good role player for them this year but like it was said earlier, their inside game is what will be hard for teams to handle. Sylvester's time to be the featured player will come next year.

Girls start time is 6pm, so yeah anywhere from 7:45pm to 8pm.

There was the Sullivan County News until about 5 or 6 years ago and it only ran about one edition a week. But even so its basketball preview was better than this. The JC Press preview should have Omar on the cover. Just like the KPT Times News should have probably had Sensabaugh, Throp, Hess, Willey or another one of the top returning players on it. Or maybe all those guys together. I figured DB people would have been dissappointed too. It only had 3 or 4 paragraphs about them and they have a great shot at going to the state this year.

Did anyone else seem to think that the basketball preview in the kingsport times was flat out pitiful? They used to have articles on some of the top returning players and each team had at least half a page if not more that talked about what they expected this year. This year each team got about 2 paragraphs, even DB, the Kingsport team! There was no preseason player picks or players to watch out for. What a dissappointment to the kids in this area. While basketball in this area doesn't compete as well state wide as football does, the rivalries and games are much more competitve. Why couldn't they have put the same effort into their basketball preview as they did the football one? If there was any doubt before, there is none now. While sometimes I think the reporting leans to one team more than others (they gotta make money I guess) there are at almost every game for every school for every sport.

Cap1, are you telling everyone that you graduated from TN High in 86? And didn't you also say you should have gone to Central but went to TN High instead? Was it because you were not good enough to play for Central? Because from 84-86 Central won the conference all 3 of those years. I guess "the sage will continue" this year...and that saga is that it seems like no one from your family can beat Central.
