Two games came to mind this weekend.  2014 Huntland and 2017 Waverly.

2014 Huntland, Forrest was favored even though we had 8 kids out. Huntland jumped on us early, down there, and we played catch up the entire game, eventually losing. Z. McClendon had run back a punt right before halftime, and we were within striking distance. But Huntland didn't let up. I think we lost by 10. Awful experience.

2017 Waverly. The RPO was in full effect.  Gavin Stanfield broke his step tracker and whatever Forrest did, it was the wrong thing. He threw when they bum rushed him, and he ran if given the slightest space. Forrest fought hard, but lost by a zillion. Also there.

Loretto, in 1 season, went from a team who was averaging 6 points a game to one that is going to score between 5 and 7 TD's against everyone they play. I'm a believer. Took me long enough.

The region is theirs. Could they slip up? I mean, anything is possible, But this team has a potential track to home field until the quarters. Likely against Riverside. If  they beat the Panthers, and Union City is the semi opponent, Loretto D will have a difficult time, but it's not out of the question.

Forrest. I'm not even mad. The typical stuff. Turnovers, penalties. This is Eli ball and the first two games had me convinced he was reformed and rehabbed. I still think he is better. But this guy was a D coordinator before he was a head coach and O coordinator. I was disappointed that it took an entire half to adjust. Loretto still bullied Forrest quite a bit even in the 2nd half.  These long plays are exhausting to watch and mentally crushing for the kids.

That's what is the most disappointing. Being bullied. I've seen Forrest completely overmatched less than a half a dozen times in the last decade. This was the first time it wasn't Waverly (2017), Marion (2016), BGA (2018), Watertown (2018), or Columbia Academy (2018). This was a region game that the entire universe had circled as a Forrest win. For the most important part of the game, the first 15-20 minutes, the Loretto offense vs the Forrest defense looked like Brock Lesnar against Screech from Saved by The Bell. I'm surprised that MMA referee Herb Dean didn't parachute in and wave it off in the 2nd quarter.

Forrest is at a fork in the road.  Stop talking about injuries and refs and anything else that takes the focus of responsibility off the staff and kids we have. Nothing in life comes without getting hit in the mouth. Loretto hit you in the mouth and figure four'ed you. It's over. Tip your hat and learn from it. A huge challenge is at The Rock in 4 days, and it's a short week. Win against Moore, and your mojo tank starts to refill. Lose, and you're a .500 team with Marion and ER looming, plus a Richland team and a Mount Pleasant team that can also beat you if things fall the wrong way.

Couple kids to give props to- #1, #2, #6, #22, #5, #25.  HEART. Didn't quit. These guys are your team leaders.  That's part of football. The leaders setting the pace this week in practice. Leadership isn't determined by age. it's determined by performance. This season isn't over.

Loretto fans, enjoy this team. They are a joy to watch. It's good for the region and 2A also. Wish they didn't RKO my Rockets, but they did. Life goes on.

    Enjoyed reading this.  Good post.

  2. Forrest could have had the week out of school, traveled down 3 days early, had a spa day the day before the game, and they still wouldn't have pulled out a 40+ point win like GeneralForrest predicted numerous times.  Most of your posts seem logical/respectful, Salem. Can't say the same for your counterpart.  Hence, the reason he's catching so much crap.  I'm usually just a basketball consumer/poster, but I decided to mosie on over here to see what kind of content was on hand after watching our past few games and seeing how exciting our guys are and how hard they play (haven't seen anything like it in Loretto football since the 90's/Butch Toner era.)  Upon digesting content related to our region, I found one recurring trend, GeneralForrest bashing Loretto.  He has spent a lot of time and energy professing his distaste, his disbelief, and his disgust for all things related to Loretto, so he deserves all the flack he gets.

He may have disappeared from posting, but he's alive and well.  I've logged on here 3 times since yesterday evening.  He was active on the site each time.

We don't hate you General, we just love antagonizing crap talkers.  Gotta be able to take it on the chin when you dish it out so much.

No salt. I’m not even a chapel hill fan. I just think beating your chest after 1 region game is just kinda crazy. I know y’all aren’t used to winning football games tho so I’ll let this one pass

no beating of any chests here.  when someone claims they will beat you by 40 points in 3 to 4 threads, then they disappear, they get called out.  You're the only one I see spouting off at the mouth, other than General.  Loretto hasn't had a consistent winning program since the 90's, but we've been plenty successful in every other sport.  Your nonsensical posts aren't hurting any feelings.

I’m usually just a consumer, not a poster, but I’m concerned as well. Did the General get lost on that LOOOONNNGGG journey back to Chapel Hill???

They kept him overnight @ the Hospital for observation after choking on all that crow he ate last night.  Maybe he'll progress and get out tonight.

  5. GeneralForrest was hospitalized after choking on all that crow last night.  May be a while before he's back at it on CoachT.

As for what happened, Loretto's core squad has improved, and the freshmen that led their 8th grade team to an Area Championship are very talented (especially for freshmen).  Loretto hasn't had this much talent in about 30 years.

GeneralForrest has never made a correct statement on this site.

lol.  he disappeared from another AA thread after claiming Forrest would beat us by 40.

Loretto has some great athletes.  Our young kids from last year are maturing, and we have some of the most talented freshmen in the state.  I don't think this is the first time we break some hearts.

On the other hand. Forrest earned this. They need to act like it. A #2 team puts a beatdown on Loretto. I don't care if it is a 1.5 day drive there.

Play crisp smart hard-hitting football, take them out of their comfort zone on O and D.

Score touchdowns. I mentioned how Coach Eli knows he has Grissom who can hit from a long way. That doesn't mean people want to watch a 9-0 football game.

Did you go back for seconds on that crow last night, or were you stuffed after the first plate?

    Loretto - 44

    Forrest - 28

    Ha

    Ha

    Haaa

To all the respectful Forrest fans:

Tough luck and we're praying the young man that was sent off by ambulance is ok!

Bigger question is do you have any team in the District or Region that can give Loretto and Summertown any problems?? I know Huntingdon will be good in our District and Union City is always a tough game. Our Region I don’t know, but Stewart County and others might be competitive as well. We all have lost star players and Westview losing Barr and another senior that was productive won’t help. Kinda like I told a GC buddy the other day. We got 3 or 4 with a lot of experience and we need 4 or 5 to fill the rotation. All will have to step up in a big way. GC has been in this position before. Early bird gets the worm, IMO. Whoever works the hardest on their game and comes out of the pack will get the spots. I honestly believe the spots are wide open including Jr. High having a couple of good players coming in.

I don't expect Summertown or Loretto to be challenged by anyone in their district.  The other three girls programs are dumpster fires at this point.  Summertown and Loretto will both still be favored to come out of region, but Cheatham County could provide some resistance.  They gave Summertown all they wanted this year and have a long history of success.

    agree with Maddams.

I don’t know I think Summertown has the edge on Loretto next season.  You don’t lose a player like weathers without a pretty good drop off.  They will still be good but Not having a D-1 player in the lineup is a huge loss.  It will be the same for westview after next season when Jada graduates.

We'll see.  Loretto has as much talent coming up from 8th grade as they've ever had in a single year.  Couple that with Ally Weathers having another year of growth & development and getting to lead the team (she led her 8th grade team to a state championship the year before moving up to play with older sis), J.B., Laney, and Cozart coming back, and I think Summertown has lots of problems with our length and pressure.  Campbell & Burleson are both great players, and have the potential to take over games, but without Burdette down low, it's going to be hard for Summertown to stop Loretto in the paint.  I think it's dogfight city between the two next year, I don't see either having any kind of "leg up".

Gotta put Summertown in this mix. 4 returning starters including Karli Campbell. Gotta feel like WV and Summertown with a leg up on the competition in that region.

WV & Summertown aren't in the same Region (think you're referring to substate).

I have a hard time seeing where Summertown will have a leg up on Loretto next year without Burdette.  Loretto has quite a bit of help coming up from 8th grade and will be much longer than Summertown.  Ally Weathers should also be a force next year.

Karly was off the charts all year.  She had 6 bad quarters (she may have played 9 bad periods of bball in 4 years) to end the year after overheating at halftime in the region championship.  The award is for the regular season and was already decided before substate.

Karly also won gatorade player of the year for TN which recognizes her as tops in the state across all classes.  I know she would trade it all in a heartbeat to get what Jada did win!  Jada will walk it next year!

If Jada doesn't sign w/ TN, how cool would it be to see her at Bama with Karly!?

Might have been 45 seconds or so when the offensive foul was called on GP. Very cheap. Then the GP blocked shot that the media jumps all over on Twitter after that that put number 14 on the line that tied it up. All happend late late in the game. We will see what happens today.

This game won't be close enough for the refs to affect the outcome, imo.
