If Tidwell is able to play football this season I could see Loretto being a sneaky team to watch. He was a stud against us last year and they have a WR getting some college offers
Corben is transferring out to elevate his Football prospects for College. He will play D1.

Too add, they had 3 p4 prospects about another 2-3 D1 in various grades on the team lol play 5 guys between 6’5’’ - 6’9’’ lol PCA would beat em by whatever they felt like that day. (Prolly 40+ playing 4 10 minute quarters). Anybody that thinks Uconn women would beat every team in the state or much of any at the state tourney is such a bad take I devalue any other thing to zero they might say regarding basketball.
Yup. Some people in this thread are so off on this that it makes me laugh. Any boys high school champion or runner up in TN beats UCONN women easily. Several others would do so as well. Some people are absolutely clueless and it's borderline embarrassing to hear their adamant take on this.

Lmfao you are not real, UConn or even SC would beat any team that went to the glass house this year, idk where u been ur most of these teams went to the boro and forgot how to shoot, that type of consistency is not to be found with an EXPERIENCED college team womens or men’s , now I see if we’re comparing Montverde, or Columbus to womens but cmon dawg, HILLSBORO? Upperman??? LMFAO, they’re not beating UConn
This is a joke.
UConn's women get beat by most of the teams from state. Uconn may shoot better; but they are slower, weaker, less athletic than almost all of the boys teams that were in the boro.
Gonna be hard to make shots when the boys are quick enough to face guard, strong enough to not get bodied, and athletic enough to contest/block their shots. Not to mention, the boys will be able to drive to the basket and score in the paint at will.
When have you ever seen a team win despite being shorter, weaker, slower, and less athletic? Not very often.

What level of boys' high school team would UCONN women be able to defeat? How about the WNBA champs?
Men are just more athletic than women. Different bone density, muscle mass, speed. 90% (if not all) of the boys teams that were in Murfreesboro for the state tournament beat UCONN girls.
There are several examples of nobodies playing against top females (whether it be in basketball, tennis, soccer, swimming, etc..) and the best women can't compete against men due to size/strength/speed issues they face that can't be overcame.

Will Tidwell be back this season?
Won't pitch this year. Doubt he's able to bat, even late into tourney time, but I didn't think he'd play basketball again this year after that high ankle sprain either. Kid is as tough as they come, so, never know.

Again, I ask, what is going on with Loretto Baseball? Basketball season ended long ago!
Loretto is 4-10. We were 1-5 before getting the bball boys back (3-5 since with 2 of those losses against 18-1 Rossview). Basketball season for Loretto ended 2 weeks ago. They're still getting into baseball form and battling injuries that lingered after a 35-0 basketball season.
Bats are pretty cold, (We're also without one of our best players in Tidwell) record won't be pretty, but should be ready come tourney time.

I believe the whole state talent level is down. I remember going to the State Tournament in 1996,1997,2000,2002,2003,2004,2005 and 2007. I remember seeing TonyHarris,CJ Black,Shaun Marion,Trenton Hassell,Harris Walker,Jamont Gordon,Tyler Smith,Wayne Chism,Willie Kemp,JP Prince,Dane Bradshaw,Corey Brewer and Thadius Young. Haven't seen near as many talented players lately.
Brandon Wright was a baller too. Similar timeframe to Kemp, Chism, Smith, and Young.
Also, Delk twins from JNS, believe they went to MS State.
Justin Hare from Bradley Central was a great talent as well. Dude is a Brain Surgeon now.

Webb was the best team Maryville played all year. Hillsboro was the 2nd best team Maryville played. Maryville played a tough schedule. Bearden, Alcoa,West,Independence, Bartlett, Walker Valley,Bradley Central Science Hill and Sevier County. I think Alcoa and Loretto can compete with anyone. Webb is the best team in the state
Agree 100%.

I could definitely see it turn out that way. The problem is no one really stopped Ty Cobb all year. So Reynolds very well might've slowed him down, but I personally can't say it would happen til someone actually does it.
As for Alcoa, them and Upperman have a common opponent in Greeneville. Both played about the same vs them. in control by about 10 points most of the second half. However, one was a mid year game and the other was a state semifinal (of which Greeneville had shot lights out the day before).
I do think Loretto would have had a more favorable matchup against Upperman than Alcoa would have though. We might get that answer next season as Alcoa moves up into the same substate pairings as Upperman in 3A.
I'm not sure anyone in the state could "stop" Cobb, but Reynolds is one of the best defenders in the state. IMO (based on seeing him vs other stars), he definitely holds him well under his average.
He flustered Mr Basketball finalist, Rodney Henderson from Tyner. Loretto played some matchup zone against them due to their athleticism across the board (and tidwell being 50%), but while Reynolds was on him, he didn't get much going. Watch Tyner vs Memphis Business, then watch Tyner vs Loretto.
I wish Upperman would schedule Loretto next year. It would be fun to watch! Gonna need to have others step up and alter some things losing Buie, Burleson, and Roberson, though!

This logic isn’t the best, as different matchups for different style teams.
While this is true, Tullahoma turned it up a whole other level during postseason. Wasn’t the same team from the regular season, because I had them going out in the region tournament to stone memorial for this exact reason.
as for Upperman, they turned it up a whole other level come state tournament time too.
one other thing to add, Tullahoma and Lawrence county is a rivalry game for the 2 due to how in recent/prior years Lawrence county had knocked out Tullahoma. So that game was going to be close just from the mental component of it alone.
I think we have to take in consideration the injuries on Loretto that weren’t there when the played Lawrence prior.
All of this to say I’d have loved to see loretto vs Tullahoma and Upperman. I think they would be close games. I think maybe they beat Tullahoma, but if they played in state tournament I think they lose to Upperman. Upperman is just a whole other beast in the state tourney.
Loretto vs Lawrence Co is a much bigger rivalry that Lawrence Co. vs Tullahoma.
Yes, Tidwell was hurt at State and had to play a different style. I understand your thinking, but I've seen all of these teams play a Lot this season. Upperman is a great team, but they rely on a LOT of production from their Star player, Cobb. Cobb would have had to dealt with Reynolds the entire game. Reynolds limits every star player. IMO, the only way Upperman beats Loretto, even with a limited Tidwell, is if they're able to get Corben in foul Trouble. Even then, it would be a good game (not a blow out like some other haters mentioned earlier).
Alcoa, to me, is 10 points better than Upperman. Loretto was able to knock them off with an injured Tidwell, in a physical game, where Reynolds was in foul trouble early. Alcoa had this set up perfectly to take the 3peat, and Loretto was still able to pull it off. Mind blowing to me because I wasn't super confident based on how things were playing out, but Loretto still pulled it off.

This kid was cut from the team Summertown?
Yes. Some kind of drama between the summertown coach and Burleson. Burleson is a great kid, so, super shocking that the coach was unable to retain such a good player/person unless it was a rift between the coach and the family (again.. a great family). I only know what I've been told. Doesn't make sense, but glad he found a home in Loretto.
He was a big part of the most special Lawrence County team any of us lawco homer's have ever seen.

We were fortunate to be the better team today. Tullahoma is a great squad. I’ve waited many years for this moment to bring Baxter a basketball state championship. All I can say is I’m overjoyed.
Congrats!

I disagree they would have beaten 3A or 4A but that is my opinion. I watched the 2A game and both teams were very good but neither team was any better than 2 state champions in both of those classifications. Just because I feel different than you doesn’t make me right and you wrong. It is just a opinion
We agree on 4A. But you can take a quick look at common opponents to see that Upperman and Tullahoma aren't better. GREAT teams, but not better.
Tullahoma played AAA Lawrence County High twice during the regular season. They lost to Lawrence County by 5 in Tullahoma and won in OT in Lawrence County.
Upperman played Lawrence County in the Region Tourney and won by 5.
Loretto beat Lawrence County by 40 at home and beat them by 8 at Lawrence County.

either team could’ve beaten 3A and gave 4A a good game
Knoxville Webb & Hillsboro are probably the best teams in TN. It would be hard for any other classes to compete with either due to their size/athleticism/depth combo.
But, Loretto and Alcoa are every bit as good and could easily compete with any other teams in the state (outside of maybe a few other private schools I haven't seen play).

Respectfully...just shut up. Loretto is #1. Will be in the books long after you and I are gone, and your obvious bias against them will be forgotten by everyone but you "tomorrow"...may it dwell in your innards like acid reflux😁.
Exactly!
Here's some more context to why the supposed "recruit" ended up with Loretto. Posted to Facebook by one of his family members shortly after we won.
To be cut from a team at a school where generations of your family are well known for their athletic skills. From a team that you lead to many wins in seasons past. A team you were pulled up in the 8th grade and put in minutes playing for… I can only imagine this began as one of the most difficult years imaginable.
But this… this right here broke me! The Mustangs have always had a great basketball program, that’s no question. As a senior in high school who played at a rival school they didn’t have to take him in as a teammate, but they chose to and they chose to accept him and let him become part of their family. The passion this team has for the game and for each other is clearly displayed on the court.
I truly cannot imagine the humility, the dedication, & selflessness that this has taken Grayson, but what I can say is that God was in this story. The smile and the emotion shown when that last second expired from the clock, had to make it all worth it.
Congratulations Grayson Burleson on an outstanding Senior year of basketball! I personally know one teammate who misses having you in Summertown everyday, but we are so proud of you for this accomplishment! #StateChampions

Sit down, troll boy. This is the last time I acknowledge your lil punk self. Go cry to someone who thinks anything you say has any merit. You're a joke, and your posts/attitude on here is so classless. Deuces.

Super impressed with our team. Corben was in foul trouble in the first half and we had to do something we haven't done all year - play in a tight game with him not on the floor at times. I was worried that if they let them play that it would be a tough game for us to win. Couple that with the fact that our 2nd best defender/most powerful post player was mostly only able to be a perimeter player, and I was concerned because Alcoa is legit. Mason showed such heart just being on the floor.
They rose above it all and did something so very special. What a great game & what a special team.

Alcoa looking really strong currently. Loretto shots are short they are a bit discombobulated.
Loretto runs through Corben Reynolds. With him in foul trouble, this is unfortunate, but to be expected with the the athleticism Alcoa brings to the table.

Here we go… Sounds like you are setting up this thread to rely on officials and prepare us that you are gonna cry about not getting the calls… the good teams adjust and not hope the refs go their way
Sounds like you're someone I should meet in person. I'd love to see if you're as confrontational and continue your child-like antics face to face. I'll be at the game again today, let's have a chat!
I've been on these boards off and on for over 20 years, I'm not the crying type. I'd love for you to find that out first hand. You up here?
Alcoa is a great team. If they beat us, I have no doubt they will have earned and deserved it.
-
Who ya got?
Loretto handles pressure well, but Alcoa brings a different kind of pressure/speed/quickness.
If Tidwell was 100%, I'd say Loretto confidently. But, he isn't anywhere near 100%. The fact that he is even on the court 2 weeks removed from a high ankle sprain tells you what kind of heart/toughness he has.
Loretto plays a different kind of defense than Alcoa. They pressure, but they're technical. They keep space between them and the ball handler so the feel of pressure is there without the constant contact that can lead to fouls adding up.
Alcoa plays faster, but more out of control. Their pressure defense involves a lot of contact. If Loretto handles their pressure like they have all season, and they have an officiating crew that calls fouls like they did yesterday, I like Loretto's odds. If the refs let this get super physical, I would be lying if I didn't say I was concerned.
