  1. Excuse me, but what game were you watching? CAK "controlled" perhaps the first 5-7 minutes of the first half. After that, they only had perhaps 3-4 instances where they mounted any kind of threat, and those were one-and-done, ball's headed back to the other end of the field. Farragut basically lived in their attacking third 70% of the first and 90% of the second. Farragut's goal happened because of a pinpoint pass from Jared Britcher and CAK's keeper underestimated Aaron Doyle's speed. Big mistake, but not the first time a team has been burned because of that. Sorry, can't come close to agreeing with your "assessment".
  2. Final - FHS-1, CAK-0. This game was a few totally muffed shots from being a 5-0 ball game. CAK is very good but Farragut dominated every aspect of play; don't know the shot count but it had to be a few hundred to 4. If Farragut can learn to actually put the ball in the back of the net, they can go all the way; if not, their post-season may be shorter than expected.
  3. Having looked over the 38 AAA teams in East Tennessee, I think it is safe to conclude that approximately 70% of the teams can be considered weak to very weak. I may be missing something on the math aspect, but I believe that is a considerably considerably higher percentage than 25%.
  4. That's not what he's saying. There is a greater percentage of "poor" teams in AAA than there is in DII, therefore some AAA teams "pad their stats" against a greater number of poor teams. There is no arguing this point; it is a fact. Price may be a great ball player, but scoring 20 goals, when a great many of them come against teams such as Cumberland or Rhea County, doesn't do anything to support that opinion.
  5. There ya go,guesswho. Since you aren't good enough to beat 'em yourself, live vicariously through a team that is. As for whether or not I like your comments, I like them....kind of like I enjoy watching the monkeys at the zoo. They act so silly but they really are entertaining.
  6. gameball, from someone who was there, here's how it went: SH came out agressive and had Farragut on their heels for the first 7-10 minutes, scored one goal on a minor mistake. After that, the first half was fairly evenly played with both teams scoring on PKs. The second half totally belonged to Farragut in regard to ball control and attacking offense, but SH packed the back like a can of sardines. They often had 9-10 guys in the box and almost never had fewer than 8. Farragut attacked relentlessly but could never get a decent look at the goal. The SH keeper had a very strong game. Oddly, Farragut used a strange combination up top that resulted in SH being able to double and triple team Doyle most of the night. As it has been most of the season, Farragut did not play with the killer-instinct that defined last year's team. They will need to find that attitude and bring it every game or their season may end sooner than they like. They are talented enough to take it all.
  7. Very tight game. Farragut had control in the first half but OR dominated the second; had Farragut on their heels most of the half. The OR keeper misjudged a high bouncer late in the second half and Doyle took advantage with a goal. That kind of took the wind out of OR's sails. Doyle completed his hatrick with a lasar shot from the top corner of the box with only minutes remaining. These two will probably meet again in the region finals.
  8. I think a good match-up to watch will be Matt Blair and Brian Hill. Blair is a tremendous all-around player and Hill has taken his defensive game to another level. Should be interesting.

    wide fields

Are you serious? That's like saying, 10 foot basketball goals, are the fair? Playing on a football field is not fair. Soccer is designed to be played on a proper size (wide) field. Playing on a football field is distinctly UNfair, especially to the better teams with more skilled and faster players. Having room to operate is part of the game.
  10. All I can say bottomline is that if you like baseball and you think soccer is boring, then a lobotomy is in the works for you. There is more action in 10 minutes of a soccer game than there is in an entire 9 inning baseball game. And do yourself a favor and don't try to pull any of your self-righteous crap with me; I have played them all. Baseball fans call it a thinking man's game because they know that "action" is simply not part of the game and they have to have something to hang onto. Save yourself some embarassment and give it up.
  11. FYI champ, Farragut returns three all region, all-KIL players and one all stater. They have another 1-3 who will be all-region,KIL and maybe all-state this season. All in all, their senior class this season is stronger than it was last season. Everybody in-the-know has known that for some time. Remember what I said about your recognizing talent? Still stands.
  12. soccermadness, please follow the link: Current Alabama Soccer Rankings I understand that last year was last year and this year is another season with different teams. However, my point was that Alabama soccer, in general, is far below Tennessee soccer, so beating Huntsville 5-0, while respectable, is really not that big an accomplishment.
  13. Hey zaphod, why don't you go hitchhike through the galaxy, you got a guide. "A ton" of talent is a subjective analysis, but compared to the level of soccer being played around the state, I think Farragut showed plenty. Frustating to only score two goals? Yes, but you were there and you KNOW the comparative level of play was considerably more lopsided than the score.
  14. Hey tribeman, for the record, Huntsville WAS ranked 10th in the second largest Alabama classification prior to the Dalton tournament. They now do not even have a winning record and are not ranked. Also for the record, last season Farragut played Huntsville when they were ranked #1 in Alabama 5A and beat them 7-1. Bottom line, your win over Huntsville IS NOT impressive.
  15. No champ, you didn't say it was a good game, you said it was a close game....and it clearly wasn't. If you think neither team showed a ton of skill then, well I'll just have to conclude that you don't know skill when you see it. The Bearden attack was almost non-existant and while Farragut wasn't exactly "on", they clearly showed a great ability to control the ball and deliver the ball. Their general execution was considerably better than Bearden's. As for Bearden's forwards....well let's just say it was clear that Upshaw and Herbstrit were no longer on the field.
  16. Either Champ didn't go to the game or he is blind and had some Bearden homer describing the game to him. The score was the closest aspect of the game. Bearden only mounted 2 or 3 serious threats to score. Farragut absolutely controlled the flow of the game and if they could have shot straight even the score would have been ugly. If I were a prognosticator, I'd say you have seen the closest of the Farragut-Bearden games this season.
  17. Farragut is far more talented but they really need to develop an attatude. They need to put teams away instead of letting them stick around.
  18. Ya do what ya gotta do. Farragut is one of the premier soccer programs in the state yet receives almost no financial or moral support from the school. The soccer team and facilities are run and maintained by the coach and the boosters club. The coach donates his pay to the booster club. Finances are obtained by selling advertising in the program and donations from parents; uniforms are paid for by the parents; the practice field is maintained by the coach and parents; games are played on the football field which is maintained by the soccer parents during the spring. But by god, if the football coach (who hasn't had a winning season this century) wants to line the field for football so he can have a spring scrimmage, then that's the way it is, the heck with the soccer team. But as pathetic as Farragut has been in football, they will still put more people in the stands than soccer will. That's just the way it is. I don't see this attitude toward soccer changing anytime soon, so we just gotta do what has to be done until it does.
  19. Guys, it's not just at this school or that school, it's nation-wide. There is widespread ignorance of soccer in the US and a significant anti-soccer bias in general. It is considered a joke sport by many long-time football and baseball fans; some consider it un-American; many fear soccer because they see it as a threat to other sports. Many high school football coaches hate soccer because a lot of the good athletes that might play football now opt for soccer instead. We know it's a great sport but until it is perceived by the general public on a level with the established sports, soccer will continue to be disrespected. That includes getting people to come out to the games. If it makes money, administrators will start to pay attention. It's better now than it was 10 years ago and it will get better in the future.
  20. PSA,since you apparently wish to revisit the past, let me again point out that last year Farragut totally destroyed two of the better AAAAA teams in Georgia on their onw fields, with their own refs, on back to back days. Totally destroyed. I don't believe Dalton would have been any different. You are welcome to your opinion, but I don't think it has much merit.
  21. I believe you are forgetting someone who is as good, if not better than the ones you have mentioned, Matt Blair of Oak Ridge.
  22. Let's just pray that you are never in a position to influence young soccer players or any other type of athlete. You have absolutely no understanding of sportsmanship or class. There was nothing impressive about their victory; quite the contrary.

    scores

I disagree. While in a competitive game, it's the opposition's responsibility to stop the other team from scoring, THIS was not a competitive game. There are plenty of things a coach can do to minimize the scoring such as requiring a certain number of passes before shooting, or instructing his team to not take shots within the box or shoot high or wide, or simply DON'T TAKE ANY SHOTS. The coach in this case sent entirely the wrong message to his players.

Depth, skill, it doesn't matter. There's no sense in embarrassing another team that way. The SH coach should be held accountable for allowing it to happen.

Yeah, Science Hill beat Boone 26-0. That's just wrong!
