Shawn was a 3X State Champ

Freshman State Champ at Red Bank

     Sophomore State Champ at Bradley

     Junior runner up

     Senior Champ

Yes my bad Shawn won that freshman bracket in 2001, 2002, lost to Kyle as a junior and won as a senior!  Him like Casey Cothron a few years before left Red Bank to go to Bradley

Yeah heard Shawn Cordell was the wrestler he was basically because of him. Hung around Yost and Bosken for awhile (basically lived with them). Said he was arguably one of the best to ever come out of TN. Sucks hearing that about him.

Yeah, he went from not placing as a freshman and that was the year Shawn was runner-up at 103 both as freshman. Kyle won the next year at 103 against Danny Coleman with a pretty loaded 103 bracket and Shawn won at 112. The next year Kyle beat Shawn in the finals at 119 6-1 before Kyle won his senior year at 125 when he tech-falled Kelly Felix at the end of 2nd period with a bracket that Travis Creagan finished 3rd. He then went out to Colorado to train before having to come back home. My dad went to school with his dad and we’ve kept up for years with our racing. Just great people!

Terrible. And thanks for the heads up. Don’t know him but would love to help.

One of the nicest families in wrestling, thankfully he lived right down the street from family so he was able to get out and down to their house. Was a 3 time state champ and Fargo AA before TN had many of those. If not for his health issues I do think he would have been an Olympic qualifier for the US.  Thank you!

  4. If any of you remember Kyle James one of the best wrestlers to ever come out of this area and a proud Soddy Daisy boy, he lost everything when his house burnt down Saturday night when all of us were celebrating the end of the State duals and championships for any of the teams we cheer for.  You can go onto Alexy Winesburgh page on Facebook and find out how to help!  Kyle's family has been friends of me and my dad's for many years(my dad and his dad before I was ever born) and if not for some medical issues I have a feeling he would have been an Olympic qualifier as he was working out of Colorado for a few years after high school getting ready to compete!   Alexy said venmo is @ulric-winesburgh   last four digits are 0797.   Thanks guys!

Best post ever!!  Good luck to all the Soddy guys…pretty much a lock to win traditional and it’s great to see you guys back on top!

I'm very happy they are getting back to also being the cream of the crop when it comes to wrestling, it was down and out for a good while and so them being back makes Chattanooga area even better and even more to be proud of here instead of having to hang our hat on Cleveland, Baylor and now McCallie! It's for sure a pride thing and good for this little community over here, I will have to say that I do hope they are able to raise the money to get the Championship rings!

I will take “Josh most likely leaves and who knows where HCWC would be” as giving credit where credit is due. It was fun talking with all of you the last few days (I mean that from the bottom of my heart). Good luck to you all in the future!

you too Freco, good luck to Cleveland this weekend and good luck to your son in the future and from the bottom of my heart I do not hold a grudge against Cleveland, HCWC or anything like that and I will also say, I have always been happy when a team from this area brings home a state title instead of it being a team from upper east TN, Nashville or Memphis, I have a lot of pride in the Chattanooga area being the hot bed of wrestling in TN and I also know that Soddy is just now hitting their stride and I'm proud of what Ulric and Shane and the other coaches have accomplished and very excited to see what the future holds! Again if Boyd could have brought home the title Chatt area would have went 5 for 5 in state titles this season!

Yeah, but it seems to all of us like you are trying to spin it like Allan does pay people to come wrestle for Cleveland. The one example you come up with that you tried to throw in Roller’s face was a kid that never went to Cleveland, nor was he going to ever go to Cleveland, who’s dad is good friends with Allan and was being helped out because of that. It’s honestly kind of funny. Keep digging. You might find where Allan actually sponsored someone who wrestles for us.  I mean @Ummmno seems to know we are paying kids to come here. You are bound to find someone if you look hard enough.

I’m not sure even on the recruiting thread that I’ve ever said they have paid someone to come there. But I’ve also said that kids and especially their parents want to move their kids to good programs, Bradley did it in the 90’s with a few kids from Red Bank, we at Soddy did it with Rabbit and the Ward brothers and I’m sure more that I can’t even think of! So everyone to a point recruits, you see a wrestler at a tournament, have a good conversation with them and let them know they would be a great asset to the team. Again it happens with every program out there that has their good years!  However, I do contend that without Allan’s money at the beginning Josh most likely doesn’t stay and who knows where HCWC is at this point! So yeah Allan doesn’t totally fund the program now, but at one point he did, he paid coaches when no other kids club around would do that and even today with the club being so successful they pay their coaches pretty well and still most kids club coaches are not paid like HCWC coaches are. At this point it is what it is, numbers have been put out, stories have been posted. You aren’t going to change your mind and since most of you only know the last few years instead of when HCWC first started you only see a club that was already developed and getting on top of its game instead of a club that was somewhat struggling and money was put into the program to get it off its back!  Good luck to all of you for the coming weekends!

You are not getting off that easy bro. You brought that up to insinuate Allan was paying athletes to come to our club. If you were not, then why did you throw that in Roller’s face? The money Allan apparently gave Eli benefited one person…Eli. You stuck your foot in your mouth and now you are trying to act like you knew who Eli was and what his relationship to Allan was.

Never said he did, so not getting off easy, again reading comprehension helps! I was looking through the financials of Allan Jones Foundation and found it interesting when I said he gave a scholarship worth over 3,300 to an Eli Lane scholarship. So I looked it up and sure enough there was a whole story I posted about it in which YES Allan gave the young man a 3300 scholarship. Seems the kid is no longer wrestling or got injured but either way, money for a HCWC did go directly to him from Allan Jones. Doesn’t matter reason why but it did happen!

my very first match ever in high school was in that gym.  I remember it well.

I believe those coaches are there because they see the vision that was being created.  Their skills make that program better, not the money.  this is only my opinion and observation.

The vision was came into fruition because of that funding, take that however you want, but in the end a vision came true because Allan shared that same vision and put his money where his mouth is. Of course at his net worth, I would do the exact same thing. I’d also raze the round gym and build a state of the art place either back there or by the high school itself if I could buy the land to do so. That was the one biggest thing I hated about it, having to ride the bus over to the round gym all the way from middle school to sophomore year when a friend would drive me.

Maybe you should ask Allan who Eli Lane is my friend. He lives and goes to school in GA. The kids dad and Allan are good friends. Eli came and trained with our club for a couple of years in MS off and on at Allan’s request to get the kid better at wrestling. The kid never attended Cleveland City Schools and never was going to. I am pretty sure he as at Northwest Whitfield. Looks like Allan wanted to do his buddy a favor and help his son develop in wrestling. Honestly, I had no idea he was helping him financially. Funny, you seem so confident you knew what you were talking about. Lol. Well done on that research! I guess your not as great a forensic accountant as you thought you were.

Since you didn’t seem to read it, I knew he wasn’t going to Cleveland and never was, I even SAID he wrestled in Dalton GA and was going to the same high school Dear ole Dad wrestled at as he’s a cop down in Dalton! So yeah my forensic is good and yeah he helped a kid get to and from to get to HCWC to practice. Hes been one of the best benefactors in the country for wrestling, never have said anything different!

LIke I commented on, it was inferred.  go back and re-read almost anything posted by ummmno, he kept referring to the money being an advantage, or words to that effect.  I commented on why he was getting push back and I would say pretty much the same about your general comments as well.  I think Steve Henry was pretty much top of the heap for many years and besides having that round gym available, he and his team were something to fear for most teams.  I do not know his funding situation, but let us agree it is not like Cleveland's, yet he still made it happen.  How is that possible (this is a rhetorical question)?

We were never funded like HCWC or Cleveland are. We also hadn’t even been the dominate program that Cleveland is now. Our kids club was mostly volunteer guys and we were mostly poor to middle class at best so there was no traveling across the country and no one to help us get there either. Our middle high programs did ok but we didn’t have the great coaching that prob would have developed more kids at the time until they got into high school. Steve was great but we also had a great assistant with Ashley! But we have won a total state championships I think as Cleveland has won in a row. We did have the round gym and even at that time it was old and constantly in repair, showers barely worked half the time, it was old and dreary downstairs and most of the rooms were junk that just lately were fixed up. I do believe us having the round gym helped us to the position we were in at the time where we were a tough out in a bracket. But again, no one has ever been this dominate in wrestling in TN. So I think it’s 100% because of funding, no, but again, I don’t know if Bosken would be there or Knox be there if not for that funding that started everything out for them and now has been built into a premier program!

mine is gone from HCWC....does that mean I should know all the kids there?  nah man I got better things to do than keep up with who's there and who's not!!!   But I assure you I OWE a debt to HCWC that I can NEVER repay!!!  Mine had success and will prosper from his time there.

Good for you, so you are talking about something you have no idea about, good to know!

I would say they do.  I would say it does not make the difference that you think it does.  It may just be one ingredient in the success story of the program there.  Your post seem to infer that it is the biggest thing that has made the success possible.  I suspect that is why you get so much push back on the crusade you are on for some admission from someone in that program, group, school, parents, wrestlers.  Maybe the money involved did help get like minded people together in one place with some really good coaches and really good wrestling partners and that has made the difference you are trying to explain.

I think that those who cared about the program, got together and made a plan and determined what needed to happen.  That program was tired of getting slapped around by the cross town rival and they had had enough.  They needed a kids club and some leadership to move from second best in the county.  They are pretty good now.

This would be correct, Josh brought an idea and the money man put money into making the effort come into fruition! I don't think any of us have said money was the only reason that HCWC and in turn Cleveland High is the juggernaut that they are because of only funding!

They have great coaches and they have a great program that works hard!

You’ve called people Morons(then changed it), called people dumb, idiots, etc.

You can’t take the conversation to the left and then be mad when it comes back on you.

I can call many people on here morons, because as FR said above if you cannot see that money has helped get them to where they are now, there really is no hope for you all!

As far as your reading comprehension, I never said a word about your son getting money! I said before after you said he never got money maybe you should ask since Eli Lane did, which you said again my son never received money! Which again HAS NEVER BEEN SAID! So again, you have been respectful, but when I have made a mistake on here with anything I have said I will call my own self out for it, just like I gave info before on tax returns and was jumping everywhere, was finally able to get a site that gave me everything for years in which I posted the amounts. So I didn't get mad and come back at you for literally saying something I have and never will say about your son, however I will quickly correct you when you don't actually read and yeah there are plenty of dumb morons of Cleveland fans on here, thankfully being good at wrestling doesn't take a bunch of brain power because if so I'm not sure any amount of money would be helping up there!

don't worry he bashes on kids, whose his son again Lee so we can all make sure to keep an eye on his progress with the high school team?   He bashed my son for soccer, bashed the other one for going back to baseball because he didn't like wrestling as a 8 year old

    Who?

Remember all your reading comprehension statements?  Stay with me buddy…

I was talking about my son.

I said "maybe you should ask Allan Jones for a scholarship for your son." Talk about no reading comprehension!

NEVER HAVE I SAID YOU RECEIVED ANY MONEY! However they did give out a scholarship to a kid on HCWC for over $3,000 that lives in Dalton GA that was in middle school when they gave it to him.  So...maybe you should ask and maybe Allan Jones Foundation can make you all the next recipients of that scholarship to help with your gas money

  17. 8 minutes ago, CdotRoller said:

No. They don’t owe him anything.
    He’ll earn everything he gets.

He considers it a privilege to wear the red and blue and to scrap with his teammates.

yet they still gave him a scholarship when the school he goes to is free and the same school his dad went to and wrestled at!

You keep singing the same song.
So in your mind what happened 25 years ago somehow has relevance to kids today?  Kids 5 years ago?

Yes the Jones Center is still here…we are fully aware of that, and wholeheartedly appreciate it.  But that funding isn’t why Cleveland has success now.  One can appreciate the guys that got the ball rolling and still express gratitude for the current regime taking it to another level.

I don’t think anyone has disagreed with you on how it all started, the issue comes when you’re not giving credit for the hard work and dedication the current coaches and wrestlers have given to get the program to its current level.  You guys have consistently undersold our coaches, our wrestlers, and all their hard work and scratch it up to the money.

first it wasn't 25 years ago since you are not reading anything I said! Josh went in 2006 to Allan Jones and got a big check written to start the program and to give it the footing to catch Bradley Central! That was said by both Jones and Josh themselves. Jones had a 6 year plan to get their club to be the best anywhere around and in turn knowing that it would help to make their High school team the best program. So with that money they were able to pay kids club coaches good money(which is great, they should since they spend a good bit of time in the wrestling room) however it was almost unheard of that kids club coaches were getting paid like HCWC coaches were! Heck some high school coaches were doing it for the stipend of like 2k for an entire season! So again, yes 20 years or 18 years back does matter, because their success didn't start overnight and it is what it is today because of hard work and GREAT coaching, HOWEVER without that original seed money it might not have ever taken off like it has! That is the exact point most all of us are trying to make!

First, do you believe tomorrow that if Josh is offered 200k a year to coach a kids club somewhere else in the US he wouldn't take that in a heartbeat? Unless it was pretty much matched he's taking the money and starting another kids club where he is paid, that is what happened here, its easy to keep the great coaches when they can either make money for their time here or go somewhere else where it's all volunteer! I did that volunteer stuff at 2 different schools in 2 different states, it's a lot of work to go and spend that time working with kids and not get a dime and all of your paycheck ends up being gone when spent driving to and from the mats all the time, you know how much its cost you to make that drive back and forth, but you are doing it for your son's betterment!

You said last year in your previous statements, that would be 2023. Now you are on 2021. You just keep rambling about bits and pieces. You have no real facts about HCWC's financial standing. All you want to do is yell Allan's money , Allan's money , Allan's money. And what and why Allan gives to Bradley is his business, not yours or mine.

I posted the link to ALL of Allan Jones foundations tax returns, the other site i was looking at didnt have that, however Check into Cash likes to put their giving out so it was a chattanoogan.com where I got some other numbers from, HOWEVER I have now posted where to go see all of the foundations tax returns, also prior I have posted before where you can see all of HCWC since they became a 501C in 2016 and they had to show their finances. If you are to lazy to look at what I posted that is on you, seems to be a trait among you all!

well, if you all had enough coaches to pay attention to all the beginners instead of spending all your time with guys that have already been in the program, maybe he wouldnt have quit! But you had more priorities and so he had different ones also with playing baseball! But don't worry you will come on here looking dumb again and be proven wrong over and over! heck you even did it to yourself a few times!
