    Striders on Wednesday and Saturday.

    Not a bad week.

  2. Going by last year's times won't always get one very far in the prediction business as far as cross country goes. I present for evidence, Your Honor, exhibit number one: McMinn 2002. That team had a returner at number fifteen from the previous year, and well, it's embarrassing to say this, but no one gave them a snowball's chance in South Alabama. Sure, they had five of their top six back... In any case, McMinn returns five of their top six and had a finisher at seventeenth place last year.

As far as Brainerd goes, we raced them in track, and their distance squad is virtually non-existent. If they have found some freshmen, then they're still a few years away. They need to face miles of trials, and trials of miles to be a contender in my book.

This is nothing but a guessing game at this point, but one thing is certain. It's going to be a fast year, and many teams will be the best they have EVER been. If a team is going to compete, they better have five below and close to 16 flat at state if they want to just be in the hunt.

I guess we'll just have to wait a few weeks and see what kind of times people open with. It won't be where they end up by season's end, but we'll see who's close.

  3. Kenwood, I'm sure runthe800 would be willing to have his team race yours this season. If he thought other teams would beat his, I'd be very disappointed and the season would be a bit pointless. Everyone pretty much cheered for teams to beat McMinn last season and the one before. So this season won't be much different.

All that said, last season is last season. Houston holds the crown, at least until November, just like we held it for a year. In November we'll see how things go.

If you guys want to come over this season, we'll find you a place to stay. We'll even feed you the night before. Then we'll give you a "STOP MCMINN" t-shirt and go race. Sound like a plan?

  4. For what it's worth, many of the McMinn faithful are rooting for you guys at Bearden. Personally, I think you have fantastic coaching and a really fantastic team all the way around. The McMinn posting on dyestat about who will win reflects some honest pondering by those who did it, and it was driven out of desire to see if they could predict whether or not you could win. I think, truth be known, the poster would love to see you guys pull it off.

    Best of luck.

    Coach Smith, McMinn

  5. Give me a break, PSAFOUR. If you don't show emotion in a game, then something's wrong. That's probably one of the reason McMinn won. They want to win. "Gaining respect" is acheived by winning big games which McMinn did.

Good job to the Cherokees and Coach Earls.

PSA, go make some wine with those sour grapes.
