  1. this is not the OR football I ever knew.

I would consider myself one of the biggest Vols fans you'll ever meet...just look at me screename. I image we're in about the same situtation that OR football is in. Now I would never stop going and stop supporting my team... really?... could you?

  2. Pathetic! Worse state of OR football ever! And it is not the players. I won't be back till there is a change. I've been going for 45 years.

Wow bballdude, i haven't posted on here in about two years but I had to comment on this one. I had been reading this thread all week and heard all the complaits about OR football. But I didn't realize how bad it was until I read your post. You probably feel the same as I do about the Vols right now /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> But you can't stop going like that...You love the atmosphere and more importantly OR football too much!

    GO VOLS!!!

  3. Here's my predictions on tonight's game:

    First Quarter:

Smyrna wins the toss and elects to kick it to Ooltewah. The kick is to the Ooltewah two yard line and Turner runs the ball back to the Smyrna 27. On the first play Ooltewah strikes quickly with a play action fake to Marshall, and as Smyrna's defensive front smothers Marshall and doubles on Jensen, Shumaker slips into the middle of the secondary where Woods finds him at the five. Shumaker eludes the tackler and streaks into the end zone. 7-0 Owls.

Smyrna takes the ball on the next possession at its own 20 yard line, as the kickoff makes it into the end zone. Sonny Gray eludes the pressur on the first play from scrimmage (an intended pass) and runs the ball for 30 yards to mid field. On the next two plays, Ooltewah's defense stiffens and stops to runs by Maceo Harris--the first for a two yard loss and the second maybe a one yard gain. It is Smyrna 3rd and 11 on about the 49 yard line, when Gray catches Wilks for 29 yards down the left sideline to the Ooltewah 22. On the next play Antoine Hendrix takes a draw for 7 yards down to the Ooltewah 15. Then Harris takes a quick gapper to the Ooltewah 8--1st and goal. Again the Ooltewah defense stiffens on a short run by Hendrix and two incomplete passes, it is fourth and goal on the Ooltewah five. Smyrna elects to kick a 22 yard field goal by Hosford. Score Ooltewah 7 -- Smyrna 3.

Smyrna elects to kick the ball short, and Sanders gets the ball and runs it back to the Smyrna 45 yard line. On the first play, Woods pass to Jensens is broken up by Wilks. On the next play, Marshall gets around the end, breaking off two tackles and ends up at the Smyrna 7--a huge 38 yard run with Crouch pushing him out of bounds. Woods goes back to pass, has to elude the rush and takes it down to the two where he is tackled by a host of Bulldogs. He leaves the field limping, and Junior qb Pepping enters the game. It takes two tries but Sanders scores from the one on the second try and it is Ooltewah 14 Smyrna 3. End of first quarter.

    Second Quarter.

Smyrna surprises Ooltewah with some great running from Harris and Hendrix, who along with a couple of short passes by Gray, make it all the way up the field to the Ooltewah 7 first and goal. Gray finds Wilks open in the end zone for a touchdown, making it Ooltewah 14 -- Smyrna 10.

On the next series Ooltewah starts on its own 20 and is unable to manage anything against a stout Bulldog defense--Buchanan gets nowhere up the middle and Marshall is tackled for a five yard loss. An incompletion from Woods to Norwood makes it three and out; Ooltewah is forced to punt. The punt is a good one to the Smyrna 35, but it is returned to the Ooltewah 45.

On the first play Gray hooks up with Crouch for 7 yards on a quick out. Then Gray goes back to pass, again eluding the Owls rush and runs for 12 yards down to the Ooltewah 26. Harris gets five yards on the next two plays and makes 1st and ten on the 16. The next pass attempt is incomplete; then Gray is sacked trying to scrable for an 11 yard loss by Welch, putting the ball on the 27. Smyrna, in the shot gun, sends the ball over Gray's head and he has to fall on it at the 40 yard line, loss of 13 more yards. After an incompletion on a viscious hit by Turner, Smyrna decides to punt and the ball ends up on the Ooltewah 3 yard line.

Again, Ooltewah is unable to move the ball and has to punt it on fourth and five from the eight. The punt is shanked and ends up on the Ooltewah 29 yard line--first down for the Bulldogs.

Two nice runs by Harris and Hendrix make it first and ten on the Ooltewah 11. Two more incompletions and a four yard run by Harris make it fourth down on the 7. Smyrna kicks another field goal and it is Ooltewah 14 -- Smyrna 13.

After the insuing kickoff goes into the end zone, Ooltewah starts on its own 20. On the first play Marshall gets 30 yards to mid field on a play that looked stopped one yard into the backfield, but the diminuitive back somehow came out of the pack for 30 yards. There is now only 30 seconds left in the half, Ooltewah passes it to Jensen for 27 yards down to the 23 yard line and gets out of bounds. On the next play, Woods fumbles the snap and Smyrna recovers and the half ends with Ooltewah up by one.

    Next half in next post.

LOL BasketballisBest, you are 0 for 1. Smyrna got the ball first.

  4. First half stats:

    Ooltewah:

    Rushing -- 68

    Passing -- 57

    Total Offense -- 125

    Smyrna:

    Rushing -- 111

    Passing -- 69

    Total Offense -- 180

Smyrna controlled time of possession and a couple of big plays and special teams play a big role in the first half.

    Second Half--Third Quarter

Ooltewah kicks it off to the five and Smyrna runs it back to the 28 yard line--first and ten. On the first play Harris runs the ball for 7 yards to the 35. Then lightening strikes as Gray hooks up with Wilks for a 65 yard touchdown pass. Smyrna tries to go for two, but the pass is incomplete. The score is now Smyrna 19 -- Ooltewah 14. Smyrna has now compile 260 yards to Ooltewah's 125. Not looking very good for the Owl faithful.

Ooltewah gets the ball on their own twenty to start the next drive. Woods drops back and hits Norwood for a 17 yard gainer to the 37 yard line. Buchanan is stopped for a two yard gain, and then Marshall breaks one all the way to the Bulldog 22. A screen pass to Marshall gets the ball to the Smyrna 9--first and goal. On the next play, the Smyrna defense steps up as Shadrake sacks Woods at the 16--loss of 7. Draw play to Marshall nets 10 yards--3rd down at the six. The next pass is incomplete and Ooltewah elects to kick the field goal.

    Score: Smyrna 19 -- Ooltewah 17

Smyrna again starts at its own 20. Harris gets 7; Hendrix gets 12; Gray scrambles for another 13. The ball is now on the Ooltewah 48 and the third quarter ends.

    Fourth Quarter:

On the first play from scrimmage, the Owls Swafford intercepts a Gray pass intended for Crouch at the 40 yard line and he is immediately tackled.

The Bulldogs bend but don't break defense, gives up two 10 yard runs by Marshall and a twelve yard pass pay from Woods to Jensen. Then Marshall gets 18 more yards but fumbles at the ten and Smyrna gets the ball back.

Smyrna, starting on its own ten, is unable to move the ball and has to punt from its own 14. Ooltewah lets it roll to its own 39 where they take the ball over.

Marshall is handed the ball twice, once for 7 yards and the second for 9. First and ten on the Smyrna 45 yard line. Woods connects with Jensen for 15 more yards. First and ten on the 30 yard line. Another screen pass to Marshall nets nine yards to the 21 yard line. Buchanan gets two yards for a first and ten at the 19. Woods drops back and passes to Shumaker; the ball goes through his hands and Wilks intercepts the ball. He runs the ball all the way back to the Ooltewah 16, where he is caught by Woods. Smyrna's ball first and ten.

Smyrna is able to move the ball to the 11, but after an incompletion decides to kick their third field goal of the night. It is good--a 28 yarder. Smyrna 22 -- Ooltewah 17. Two minutes and 47 seconds left in the game.

With their backs against the wall, the Owls are forced to start at their own 20 yard line again after the ball rolls into the end zone.

On the first play from scrimmage, another screen pass too Marshall nets 22 yards to the 42 yard line--out of bounds. A draw to Marshall gets 15 more yards down to the Smyrna 43. Woods drops back to pass; it's incomplete. Now just 1:50 left on the clock. Woods drops back and has to run from a furious pass rush and connects with Norwood at the 25 yard line--first down Ooltewah out of bounds. 1:38 left on the clock. The next play is a handoff to Marshall, who only gets two yards. The clock is running--Woods drops back to pass and hits Jensen for 15 yards down to the Smyrna 8. 49 seconds on the clock. Woods pass to Horsch is incomplete. 41 seconds remaining. Woods catches Shumaker open on a slant--touchdown. Ooltewah decides to go for two. Senior Shawn Sanders runs the ball for two.

Score: Ooltewah 25 -- Smyrna 22 (35 seconds on the clock)

Ooltewah's kickoff does not make it into the end zone and it is run all the way back to the Ooltewah 42 yard line, after several missed tackles and a great block by Shadrake. (21 seconds on the clock)

Gray hooks up with Wilks down the sideline for 29 yards to the Ooltewah 19 (8 seconds left on the clock. Smyrna elects to attempt a game tying field goal from 36 yards out. It's up; it's long enough; it's wide left. Owls win.

    Final: Ooltewah 25 -- Smyrna 22.

    Final stats:

    Ooltewah:

    Rushing: 195 (Marshall -- 183 yards)

    Passing: 183

    Total Yards: 378

    Smyrna:

    Rushing: 134 (Harris 100)

    Passing: 163

    Total Yards: 297

Trust me, it will not be close enough for Smyrna to have a change to tie at the end of regulation. Ooltewah rolls.

  5. Something funny I just noticed. Does any of this talk about Smyrna remind you of another team Ooltewah played in the playoffs? SEVIER COUNTY. Thier fans talked them up so much only to be disappointed in the end. We heard all this crap about how their All-American QB was going to throw all over us. And how good their D was. We heard how they had a good balanced attack to go against the Owls stellar defense. And many people were picking against Ooltewah. This is the same exact thing that I am reading from Smyrna posters. And Smyrna fans don't act like you are better than Sevier County. Ya'll both went 8-2 in the regular season with both losses coming to good teams. SC-(DB, WB), Smyrna-(Riverdale, Ravenwood) So who knows, maybe Sevier County might be better than Smyrna? You will have one more thing in common after Friday, you will both have been put out by Ooltewah.

  6. I meant moreso at the 5A level because there are a number of 5A schools in Middle Tennessee that have played for the "chip" in the past 10 years. But this notion that the real football is played in the East is laughable. You must have forgotten about all the private school powers in Middle Tennessee like MBA, Goodpasture, David Lipscomb, Ezell-Harding, Donelson Christian Academy, Christ Presbyterian Academy, Battle Ground Academy, ......all of whom have played in title games in the past 10 years. Other than Maryville, Alcoa, Oak Ridge, D-B, and Red Bank's Gerald Riggs years, who in the East has consistently been good?? Shoot, I can't name another contender. Sevier County was good in the late 1990's with Matthews, Youell, and those guys. D-B can't get out of the first round and plays in an athletically inferior region. Your argument doesn't stick.

Murfreesboro Riverdale, Murfreesboro Oakland, Brentwood, Ravenwood, Franklin, Nashville Glencliff, and Hendersonville are Middle Tennessee 5A schools that have played for titles in the past 10 years. I admit that this is somewhat skewed by the East/West split that sends some Nashville area schools West in the playoffs, but the point is that these teams play each other with regularity, scrimmage and play 7 on 7 in the summers, and are ready for the playoff wars. Trust me, Ooltewah may beat Smyrna, but its not going to be because the Bulldogs were "WOWED" by their speed. I mean, there is the potential for a Ravenwood- Smyrna game next week. Those schools are 20 mintues apart (if you know the Rocky Fork backcut) and have already played in a heated game less than two months ago.

If you want to go back 10 years, then you must include the Maryville of the 1990's, Cleveland, which of course is Benny Monroe's old stomping grounds.

  7. We can't help it. MOST people just hate us and want us to lose and we are stuck with that underdog status no matter who we play. Heck, we were even underdogs when we had to play Oakland and Lebanon because we had just lost to R'dale 49-0 and looked vulnerable but that is understandable to be considered vulnerable after getting blown out like that.

Remember back in the spring..... George Mason was still the underdog in the final four of the tourny after defeating North Carolina and #1 ranked UConn.

And what happened to George Mason in the round of 4? Thats right they lost to the eventual champions.

  8. I think Maryville wins this one much easier than some people think. It's meaningless to compare the brainerd score and others. Every team has at least one game a season where they really underperform. Having watched Maryville football over the past years, I can't tell you how many "big games" turned out to be not so big after all - games with MoWest (all but one!), Tennessee High, Greeneville, Knox Central, Powell, Cleveland, Rhea Co., and one particularly memorable game against Red Bank with Gerald Riggs. I also remember Red Bank fans telling Maryville fans before the game that no one could stop Riggs, nobody had stopped him in two years blah blah blah. We know the outcome. A bunch of "nameless" Maryville players won the game. Maryville fans arn't cocky. I think its just when you've been in as many "Big games" as Maryville has, you really consider the only big game to be state. And we have seen some tough competition in state the past few years. Does anyone know how many undefeated teams Maryville has eleminated in the playoffs under Quarles? I would be interested to find out. Knox Central had a few years when their only lossese (2) were to Maryville. I could be wrong, but I think Maryville will show Red Bank what state champions are made of. Maryville by 21+ (this should get a rise out of some people I reckon)

21+? You must be kidding. Maryville won't even score 21. Not saying RB will win, but it will be close.

    Not a RB fan here.

  9. This is just a post to my mod. Will you please take me off this whole preveiwed thing? Its getting really irritating. I don't even know what I did to get put on here. I have been on this board for a long time, and have always tryed to be a decent poster. Come on man!!!

  10. All of these predictions of a 2 touchdown or greater victory this week, as well as several of the guarantees of victory by a couple of the Hooterville folks on this board, when there is no logical basis for thinking such things based on what we've seen in the season thus far, is just a total disrespect and slight to Farragut. It's cocky and I for one despise arrogance will never let blatent unjustified arrogance go unchallenged without shining a little truth on it.

  11. All of these predictions of a 2 touchdown or greater victory this week, as well as several of the guarantees of victory by a couple of the Hooterville folks on this board, when there is no logical basis for thinking such things based on what we've seen in the season thus far, is just a total disrespect and slight to Farragut. Dude, you just don't get it do you? No Owl fans(except for Owlbino) is showing Farragut any disrespect. I just believe that Ooltewah is that much better than Farragut. I'm not trying to tick you or any other Farragut fans off on here with my bold 3 TD victory by the Owls. I just believe that Farragut significantly overachieved in their last game, and it will not happen this game. The only offense you had was your QB. He is gone. Yes, Sterling might have a better game, but he is going to need a 150+ 3 TD performance to make it close. And agianst the Owls front 7, I just don't see that happening. The more I type, the more I realize that there is a good chance that the Ads may not score at all.

Okay, that last part was just to tick you off.

  12. Winning by 2 TD's I consider to be a blowout and not a close competitive game. Predicting a 2 TD margin is pretty arrogant and showing a lack of respect for Farragut in my opinion given that the first game was a mere 2 pt win for Ooltewah @ Ooltewah in which both teams had plenty of chances to win that game. Additionally, you can add the equal strength evidence of the scores against multiple common opponents, with each team pretty much winning with the same showing of relative strength (margins of victory) in the Region. You and your fellow Hootervillians can have your arrogant opinions all you want, but the evidence of the season thus far doesn't support those opinions in any way shape or form.

I don't think you understand why we are picking it to be a blowout. Its not becuase we don't have any respect for Farragut, or we think they are a bad team, Ooltewah is just that good. I said it earlier, Ooltewah was 2 TD's better than them last time they played. Farragut converted several 4th downs, and quite a few 3rd and longs with some great plays by thier QB to make it close. He is gone now. Don't expect to see the Owls D give up those big plays again.

Do you remember the play were Sanders had a tailor made sack and just missed then the QB threw that really long pass for what I think was a TD in the 4th quarter? If Sanders makes that tackle, Farragut would have to punt it back to Ooltewah who already had a 14 point lead or so. The score could have very easily of looked like a blowout if he makes that one tackle. Yes, I know he didn't, just saying. Even though it turned out to be a 2 point game, the game was never really in doubt. Ooltewah rolls.

    Ooltewah - 31

    Farragut - 10

  13. I'll take Sterling any day of the week over Marshall and twice on Sunday !!! NFL Sunday that is ! I wouldn't be surprised to see Sterling playing on Sundays one day. I can't say the same for Marshall.

Sterling has done what he has done without much of a complimentary passing game at all. He has faced 8 and 9 men in the box trying to stop him almost every single game this year and still has nearly 2000 yards rushing. In fact, the only game Farragut has had with a significant passing attack was against Ooltewah. Marshall has had the benefit of a much better Ooltewah passing game to take the pressure off of the running game. His yards are much more of the result of a well balanced offense.

I hope Marshall will enjoy watching Sterling play high Division I college football, and possibly even watch him playing on Sundays one day !!!

This is not meant to take away anything from the Marshall kid. He is a really good high school football player, but he is in no way shape or form, nearly as good as Andre Sterling !!!

Ooltewah fans, I heard a rumor somewhere that Louisville was taking a good hard look at Brian Marshall. Is this true?

  14. Yeah, well the only stats that I can see thus far are those on the TSSAA web site which say, that Ooltewah has only been to the playoffs 5 times not counting this year, with only 1 deep run in the playoffs EVER in its history. Pardon me if I act like someone from Missouri, but until I'm actually shown Ooltewah to do anything significant in the years to come, I will tend to be a skeptic. So far, Ooltewah has done very little as compared to Farragut in their VARSITY football program, (not to mention their overall sports program which is laughably uncomparable) and that my feathered friend is a FACT !!! As for the game this Friday, I would be willing to bet that even if you are fortunate enough to get past Farragut that you will take it on the chin hard to Riverdale next week. (For the record, I think Farragut will get beat handily by Riverdale too, if we win this week) Region 2 may be the toughest Region overall from top to bottom but there are some teams out there like Riverdale that are just typically better than anybody in our Region.

Admiral, what does this have to do with the game? Congradulations on all your championships that your grandfather won. All this Owl generation knows how to do is win. All of these kids have been very successful in winning in thier time at Ooltewah. I would go out on a short limb, and say that Ooltewah probably has one of the best sports programs in the state when you consider every sport in recent years.. There is not one sport in which Ooltewah is bad in. See 2006 Spring Fling. These kids don't care that Ooltewah didn't make the playoffs before 2000. That has no affect on them what so ever. So quit bringing up the past, and talk about the present, which will be hard becuase you know its all coming to an end this Friday night for the ads.

  15. When you start getting that far apart in years it is near impossible to compare. All you can really do is guess. I don't think the RB team that won the state was as good as some of the more recent Maryville and Riverdale teams. I saw Red Bank play several times. Without Riggs, they wouldn't have come close. Riverdale and Maryville have always had a host of good players.

I remember hearing Stump Martin (guy who knows a ton about high school football) say that Ooltewah's D-line that year was one of the best if not the best he's ever seen. I personally believe that Ooltewah's entire team that year was better than this years team. Anyway, Red Bank played Ooltewah in the second round of the playoffs that year, and I think the final was 56-7 Red Bank. Riggs had something like 250 yds rushing and 6 TD's. You may be right about Maryville and Riverdale being better, I just don't see it. I've seen a lot of high school football and no team I've ever seen has come close to that Red Bank team.

  16. actually how high does your enrollment have to be just looked and maryville has alot of 5a schools beat or and close to aot .....hmmmmm

yea i doubt it to i mean we were only ranked 7 in the nation and blew everyone out :thumb:

Actually, I doubt either one of those teams could have beaten RB back when they won the state championship. I believe they too were ranked in the top 10 nationally. Gerald Riggs was like no player I've ever seen before.
