  1. I do somewhat agree with you on what you are saying, as there is no way to get a completely accurate ratings of any teams, especially earlier in the year. I just hope my point wasn't misunderstood as neither of the three teams exactly beat any great teams and statistically they were pretty evenly matched so in all actuality, no fans from either team has a right to do to much trash talk. Look at the teams they had all three played, there were very similar scores and results across the board, so really no need for insulting each other's team as neither actually proved they had a right to brag. I love to see good high school competition and not all teams can be world beaters, but I hope each and every fan is just as proud of their 0-10 team as any fan of a 10-0 team and shows their support for these kids. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in trying to prove our point that we forget who really matters, and that is the young men that strap it up every Friday night and give their all so we can even have something to yap about......... Peace and best wishes to all the kids and hope each one from ALL teams know they are appreciated for their efforts whether you are All-State or a bench warmer.
  2. Let me see now... who was it that Unaka beat? 7 "cupcake" teams wasn't it? Who was it Cosby beat? 9 "cupcake" teams wasn't it? Why do you all want to run down a bunch of high school kids when your school beat even weaker competition than they did? The average rankings of the teams Sunbright beat was 307, Unaka's minus Hurley Va. was 311 and Cosby's average beaten opponent ranking was 309. So you can tell neither team exactly beat any great teams. I would also like to state that the memory on the spring scrimmage game seems to be very different than what I remember because Sunbright was without 6 of their starters (QB, 2 WR's, FB, 2Linemen) as well and it was Sunbright 3 TDs plus 2 point conversions to Cosby's 1 TD until the second string started playing and then Cosby came back and tied it up. But hey it was just a scrimmage and both teams evidently had key players out and we can go on and on about what might have happened and what didn't happen can't we. But there is no need to slander a bunch of kids because somebody else says something you don't like. The kids can't help how much money is put into these sports programs and what school administration decides to do with that money. Coach Newberry, just as Coach Shelton has in Cosby, has really started working on building a better football program and their hard work will start to pay off and should be commended. Yes, Sunbright will be very down next year unless they get some transfers, but they shouldn't have any trouble winning 3 games or so. They do have some pretty good talent coming up in the Jr high and elementary ranks so they shouldn't be down for to long. Good luck to all the local teams and my apologies to any of the teams if I offended anyone, just don't like to see our kids ran down any more than you all like to see your's ran down.
  3. Sunbright will be losing 10 senior starters so they will be in serious rebuilding the next couple years. They do have some pretty good talent coming up in Jr. High that should develope pretty nicely. But next year is going to be a serious down year for the Tigers.
  4. After the showing against Midway I don't think I would get on here making to many snide comments. I mean after all that big ole 9-1 team, 2nd in your region got obliterated by the 3rd place team in region 2, and Sunbright dominated you all in spring scrimmage, remember, he who laughs last, laughs loudest. And before we get into the bowl game, according to the Sonny Moore computer rankings, MTCS is ranked higher than 8 of Cosby's opponents this year, and guess what........... Sunbright is ranked HIGHER than Cosby!!! That means 5 teams in Region 2 is ranked higher than Cosby. All 5 losses Sunbright had this year were to playoff teams, and three of those are advancing to round 2. WHH gave Collinwood quite a scare, and it was almost 4, so Sunbright held their own and has nothing to ashamed of. Just in case you want to check it out I have included a link for your convenience. http://members.aol.com/powerrater/h-s-foot.htm I apologize to any players or coaches from Cosby that I may offend as I don't like to talk negatively about any team. I like to give my opinion and state my view without doing that, but it seems some feel they must run down a bunch of kids to make their point. If your problem is with a fan from a certain team it still should not give you the right to downgrade the players on that team. All these kids deserve respect and should be acknowledged for their accomplishments, not humiliated. I am sure it upset most every Cosby fan every time somebody talked about their "weak" schedule or "they are over-rated." So I hope you can understand my point. I think Cosby and Sunbright both have a reason to be proud and I want to congratulate both teams on a great year. I'm sure it didn't end the way either team would have liked, but keep up the hard work and your turn will come.
  5. You are right Shocker, the Tigers almost played up to their potential. Just a lot of problems off the field kept them from playing that way all year. They were a much better team than 5-5, but this is a tough region to play in, and unless you can keep on your A game week in and week out, your gonna get beat. You can't take anything away from Coalfield, they are awesome. Those boys play as a team and it shows every time they take the field. Congrats to the YellowJackets on a 10-0 year, you deserve it and for what it means you will have my support through out the playoffs. The Coalfield players AND fans showed more class than any other team Sunbright has played all year..... well Midway was pretty close, that is a great bunch of kids too.
  6. Oneida definitely has a chance against Hampton minus Townsend. Oneida has a good defense. The first question is going to be if they can score and they have proven they can on defense and special teams. I been hearing all year how their offense is improving but it is yet to show up so it should be a low scoring game and Hampton will have to make some mistakes, but Oneida can pull it off with a little luck. But either way, I don't see either team going past round 2.
  7. How about a spelling dictionary? You sure could you use one of those.
  8. With all due respect, I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on all the above points. Obviously we saw it at different angles or something. I know when they brought the chains back to the sideline and declared it was 4th down they placed the line of scrimmage more than a yard from the 1st down marker. Maybe Oneida uses a really big football is how you get it was less than two football lengths. On the late hit the two officials closest to the play did not call it and the official down the field came up and threw his flag very late. I apologize to all the officials for my previous statement as I did not mean the whole team was partial, but it was pretty clear those two were not going to call the late hit and they both had a upclose view, and who ever made the decision to not to grant a measurement in a crucial situation, are the two incidents I am referring to. But I guess we can argue it all we want and it won't do any good. The game is for the kids and everyone should remember that. Both teams played their hearts out and like my coach used to tell us.......... "If one bad call from an official caused you to lose(not saying it would have made a difference in the outcome of the game) then you don't deserve to win any how. You should have beat your opponent by enough to leave no doubts."
  9. I was standing on the same side as the yard markers and to me it looked like they were in between the 12 and 13 yard line, closer to the 12 to be exact, lacking maybe less than a foot. Hopefully we can get a better view of it when we see the films. If that wasn't close enough to get a measurement....... why was Oneida awarded a measurement when they were were well over a yard short and the ball was a lot closer to the yard sticks? Like I said, who knows if it would have had any affect on the out come of the game or not, but in a game of that importance it would have only been the RIGHT thing to do. But to compound that and insult Sunbright by awarding a measurement to Oneida when it was that far off, just seems to me some officials need to hang up their whistle for being partial.
  10. That was the one. I mean the original line of scrimmage was between the 12 and the 13 yard line and the ball was clearly laying between the 1 and 2 yard line so they should have at least measured it. Unless my math is terribly wrong, there should have been a measurement. I can't say whether it would have any effect on the outcome of the game but I know it took a lot out of those kids emotionally and took them a while to get pumped back up.
  11. There will always be one thing that I will want to know about this game. Can anyone explain to me why Sunbright could not get a measurement when it was 4th and inches for a first, yet Oneida got a measurement and was more than a yard short? I don't know if they would have made the 1st down or not, but it was a lot closer than a yard and a half and the officials should have at least measured it.
  12. Don't put words in my mouth, because I never said, nor meant to infer any such thing. Thompson is a very good ball player and has my complete respect as a player. He is a very important part of their offense. As for the problem concerning why he is not playing as much as any one would think...that would purely have to be taken up with the Sunbright coaching staff. I was simply pointing out that it takes 11 players on the field at a time to make a team and who ever may be playing at the time, it is still a team, and they need our support. There are things that go on with any team sport that we never hear about that may affect these kind of decisions. Like I previously stated, I do not know why he isn't playing as much as you or anyone else would like because I have not heard anything from the "horses mouth." Sometimes we don't know all the details and it is easy to cast judgement and even second guess after the fact. I for one would rather wait until I can get some facts first......... I mean after all, I NOW feel I was a bit premature on the onside kicks. I'm not really one who fancies eating crow, so unless I can at least be reasonably sure I won't elaborate. I, as a fan, and as a parent of a player on the team want to see them win as much as anyone else does, and I know the more Brandon Thompson gets the ball the better those odds get. It is just my honest opinion that it isn't going to help anything to get in a public forum and bash coaches when we don't even know all the facts. That will not help the team at all. As I was taught when I was younger. "there is a time and a place for every thing" and it is just my honest opinion that this isn't the time and definitely isn't the place.
  13. As for the onside kicks I am guilty of second guessing that myself until I was told, and saw, why that was done. The one kick that was sent deep was ran back by Harriman. I think I would have kicked it away from him too. As a matter of fact, both of the Harriman deep returners can do the same thing. A lot of people feel you kick it deep and leave it up to your special teams to stop it, others feel kick it away from the threats. Either one could have and did bite the Tigers that night. I am not going to speculate on the reasoning behind the coach's decision to play or not play certain players in a public forum like this, as I believe it undermines the entire team and we all know we don't need any more of that. I know I have heard rumors as probably lots of others have, but there can be many under lieing factors when a coach makes a decision like that and unless he is willing to say just what those reasons are we can not know for sure. We as fans can speculate and doubt all we want but we should stick together for the kids on that team, after all that is who really counts and there are more than just one or two that make up the team. The team really needs the support of the fans and the community Friday night. I hope we can have a lot of fans in Oneida this week and I hope we can show these kids how much we appreciate their efforts and leave all the controversy out of it until after the season is over, which will pretty well be Friday night if they don't win.
  14. Good point Goose. This was a bug that bit the Tigers last year quite often and I thought after the comeback at WHH they had shaken it. Guess I was wrong. The stats from both of the last two games proves that Sunbright isn't really that bad of a team, but they seem to have a problem keeping their composure. I really felt they had swung the momentum their way right before the half against Harriman but they had that look in their eyes when they came back on the field and I guess I was a bit optomistic because I made the statement to a friend that they were still in it. Blinked twice and it was 35 to zip. Harriman is explosive no doubt and to beat them any team better be ready to play 4 quarters. Midway was quite another story. Tigers marched right down the filed and scored right after them to take the lead, then on the kickoff Midway ran back and I saw that look in the Tigers eyes again. I think the biggest reason for so many big plays against the Tigers is poor tackling, even in a crowd they were trying to arm tackle and any quality back is going to take it home unless you wrap him up.
