  1. The Tullahoma Wildcats, 7-3 on the season, got awarded a #2 seed and will host the White Co Warriors Friday nite with kick-off at 7pm. The Cats won the District 8AAA championship last nite with a 27-7 win over Lawrence Co. It is my understanding that Tullahoma would play their first 3 playoff games at home if they continue to win. Also Tullahoma will host Maryville in their first regular season game in 2011. White Co went to Crossville and got a big win over Cumberland Co Friday nite. Tullahoma doesn't need to look ahead on a possible rematch with Lawrence Co in round #2. The Cats will have their hands full with a White Co team that may be peaking at the right time. Lawrence Co hosts a good Cleveland team in the first round.
  2. I hadn't really thought about this possibility, but Tullahoma could host Shelbyville in a rematch next Friday. Now wouldn't that be entertaining.
  3. Last week Siegel beat a team from Coffee Co and tonite another team from Coffee Co knocks them out of the playoffs with a upset victory over Cookeville. That would be something. We'll know for sure at 12noon Sat.
  4. Congratulations to Coach Olive and his team and staff on winning the 2010 District 8AAA championship tonite with a hard fought 27-7 victory over the Lawrence Co Wildcats. It was Senior nite for the Cats and the 6th home game. One of my favorite moments in the game was when Senior Tyler Branch intercepted a pass and scored for Tullahoma late in the 4th quarter. The defense played their best game and Tyler has taken some criticism this season. I thought Cody Farr and Allen Starks had great games tonite on defense and Jared Davis was the best player tonite on offense. Jared completed his first 9 pass attempts to get the Wildcats going on offense. I don't know who Tullahoma might host in the first round of the playoffs, but it could be Cleveland or maybe White Co. I really think Tullahoma has a good shot at making the 3rd round of the playoffs. Don't forget that the schedule for the first round of playoff games will be released at 12noon by the TSSAA.
  5. Congratulations to Coach Eddie Nunley and the Red Raiders on beating Cookeville. Coffee didn't win but 3 games this season, but they were 3 games the Red Raiders had to win and they got it done. Not too many people gave Coffee Co a chance to win this game. I knew if they gave the same effort tonite as they did in the Coffee Pot game, they would have a chance. It may be the first time in history that two teams from Coffee Co won their district titles in the same season. Tullahoma beat Lawrence Co 27-7. I don't know who the Red Raiders will get in the first round of the playoffs, but it could be Maryville. Whether Coffee Co can make a run in the playoffs remains to be seen, but at least the seniors for Coffee Co close out the regular season with a district title.
  6. I heard that Cale Greenway had to do 25 hard yards before he can play Friday. It would be hard to pick a game, but I don't know if any teams can match the intensity level of the game friday nite at Tullahoma. Its gonna be a war.
  7. Thx for the kind words. I don't know anything definite at the moment, but Trey Burks was doing no contact work at practice last week and according to reliable sources, his dad was quoted as saying that Trey was ready to go. Montrell Berry didn't play last Friday against Siegel, but I think he'll be ready to go Friday nite. I heard that Cale Greenway talked back to a coach on the sidelines after dropping a pass and didn't play the rest of the game. Cale was mad at himself and knows he should have caught that pass and probably said something in the heat of the moment that he shouldn't have said. Just guessing that Cale will play, but may not start. Will Sharpton, who was hurt in the Shelbyville game, might be able to play. I know there are a lot of ifs and maybes, but it is too early in the week to know these things for sure.
  8. I just watched the replay on the offensive pass interference call on Shane Hagen on the first play of overtime that nullified a td for the Cats. I'm an official and have been for over 33 years and that was a pitiful call. There was no offensive pass interference. Coach Olive doesn't say much about officiating and there have been several controversial calls in his 18 years as head coach at Tullahoma and he is still fuming over that call. Several other long time football officials have privately said that you don't make that call in that situation unless it is blatant. I'm not one to say much about calls either and we still might not have won that game, but I just hate to see young men subjected to calls like that after the effort they gave last Friday nite. Life goes on and everyone needs to put that game in the past and get ready for a good Lawrence Co team this Friday nite, but I just had to get my 2 cents worth in to help soothe the pain.
  9. Tullahoma has another chance to clinch the District 8AAA championship this Friday nite at Tullahoma, but Lawrence Co can do the same thing. Going into this game, Lawrence Co will actually have a better overall record at 7-2 compared to the Cats 6-3. Lawrence Co seems to be playing their best football at the end of the season and Tullahoma has lost two straight after winning six games in a row. This game should be a very hard hitting and physical game. For the past several years this game has playoff possibilities for each team. Last years game at Lawrence co was played in a driving rainstorm and Tullahoma was beaten soundly by the Wildcats. Tullahoma will be ready for this game and will give it their best shot. Scott and I will talk about this game on our sports talk show, High School Sports plus, on Monday nite from 6pm til 7pm, on 101.5, fantasyradio in Manchester, Tn. There is a possibility of the Cats getting some key players back for this game. Both teams are in the playoffs. If Lawrence Co wins there could be 4 teams tied for 1st place in the district. Tullahoma went back to work Saturday to get ready for the Wildcats. A crowd of over 5,000 people will be there this Friday nite. If some of you folks have waited all year to go to a game, then this is it.
  10. It was a very tough game to lose for the Cats. After Tullahoma went ahead late in the game 27-20, they let Siegel run the kick-off back to midfield which set the Stars up for a hail mary pass from the 37 yard line. The pass was tipped by some Wildcat players into the hands of a Siegel receiver and he scored with no time on the clock. Congrats to Siegel for pulling off a miracle at the end and then winning in overtime 33-30. I thought Steve Matthews did a good job of calling plays and the Dunnaway kid is a great athlete. Tullahoma has to forget this loss quickly and start working toward the final game with Lawrence Co with the district title at stake and a possible first round playoff game at home. Jared Davis and Jordan Sheffield had a outstanding game for the Cats.
  11. Just a reminder that the kick-off at Siegel is 7:30pm.
  12. Both the Tullahoma Wildcats and the Siegel Stars will try to get back on the winning track as Tullahoma travels to Murfreesboro to play a non district game this Friday night. Tullahoma had a chance to wrap up the regular season District 8AAA championship last Friday against an inspired Shelbyville team that led from start to finish. The Wildcats were coming off a bye week and a two week Fall break from school. Siegel, after taking a big lead early in the game on Thursday nite, lost to rival Riverdale in 7AAA. This will be the 4th road game in the last 5 games for the Cats. Siegel doesn't have much to play for except pride and the Cats will be trying to get some momentum going before their big district game against Lawrence Co in Tullahoma on Oct 29th. Siegel beat Tullahoma last year in a low scoring game and plays in the toughest district in the state. If you can't attend the game, listen to Scott and Binns on 101.5, charter channel 6 and www.fantasyradio.com. Former THS coach, Steve Matthews,is the offensive co-ordinator for the Siegel Stars. Tullahoma is now 6-2 on the season and Siegel is 3-5. Tullahoma is averaging 36pt a game on offense, but poor defense continues to be a problem for the Cats who are giving up 29pts a game. If some changes aren't made on defense, the Cats won't go very far in the playoffs.
  13. Congratulations to Coach Hardy and the Shelbyville Golden Eagles on their victory over the Tullahoma Wildcats in Shelbyville. Shelbyville wins 39-29 and led all the way. Tullahoma drops to 6-2 and the Golden Eagles are now 5-3. It was Senior nite at Shelbyville and senior Tre Stewart, in my opinion, was the offensive MVP. The Cats must now go back to work and try to get another win streak going against Siegel in Murfreesboro next Friday nite and then close out the season at home with another chance to get 1st place in the district against the Lawrence Co Wildcats. Will Sharpton was injured early in the second half and early reports indicate he suffered a stinger and should be ok. I hope that is correct. The Cats hadn't played a team since the opening game with Blackman that had a lot of speed until tonite. Shelbyville kept the ball away from Jordan Sheffield on kick-offs and even though Sheffield caught a late TD pass, he wasn't involved much in the offense. The Cats had 3 big turnovers and didn't look really sharp. I don't think the 2 week vacation helped any either. The credit goes to Shelbyville. They were ready to play and kicked our tails tonite. The District 8AAA race will go down to the last week of the regular season with Tullahoma, Lawrence Co, Columbia and Shelbyville and Lincoln Co. Shelbyville goes to the pit in their last game and it will be the last regular season game for longtime coach Louis Thompson who is retiring from coaching at the end of the season. Columbia ends with Franklin Co and Lawrence Co goes to Tullahoma in Week 10.
  14. The new playoff rankings by TSSAA come out on Tuesday and part of the formula used is whom you played and how your opponents have done. That would more accurately determine if Bledsoe Co deserves to still be ranked.
  15. The Tullahoma Wildcats travel to Shelbyville Friday to play the Golden Eagles. The Cats are 6-1(3-0) in the district and Shelbyville is 4-3(1-2)in district play. Tullahoma, in the past, has struggled to win at Shelbyville, but the Cats can wrap up the district title with a victory and a loss would tighten up the race. Tullahoma figures to be in the playoffs, but the Cats need a win to host a first round playoff game. There's a lot at stake and a big crowd is expected in this annual rivalry. If you can't attend the game, listen to the live radio broadcast with Scott and Binns on 101.5, Fantasyradio.com or local Charter channel 6. Both teams had a bye last week and with the exception of Trey Burks of Tullahoma and Marquis Morton of Shelbyville, both teams should be healthy.
  16. There are a lot of ifs. District 8AAA has only one team right now that has a losing record and the Falcons beat the #6 team in the state last week. Most teams in District 8AAA would have a losing record at this point in the season if they had played Lincoln Co's schedule. According to Coach T, they have the toughest schedule in the entire state. Tullahoma fans are hoping the Lawrence Co game doesn't mean much to them because they can clinch the district with a win at Shelbyville, but the Golden Eagles always give Tullahoma a tough game in Bedford County. Tullahoma's outstanding sophomore running back, Trey Burks, may be back for the game with Shelbyville. I know Lawrence Co is good and you're right, when they play Tullahoma in the last game it usually has possibilities for both teams to make the playoffs. Tullahoma Middle school football team beat Harris Middle tonite in Shelbyville 26-24 and ended their season at 4-4. I just hope no players have any serious injuries for the rest of the season and I also hope District 8AAA will send 4 teams to the playoffs..
  17. I think the season has kinda gone along with pre-season predictions. The coaches picked Columbia 1st, Tullahoma 2nd, Lincoln Co 3rd, Lawrence Co 4th, Shelbyville 5th and Franklin Co 6th. Tullahoma beating Columbia 21-210 in overtime in week 2 was the key win for the Cats so far on a Thursday nite tv game. Its a tight race for everyone else thanks to Lincoln Co upsetting Columbia last Friday nite. Lincoln Co, who had not won a game thanks to the toughest schedule in the state still has key games with Franklin Co and Shelbyville. I think Franklin Co has suprised me the most so far and new head coach Jim Carr is to be commended. Shelbyville got off to a great start, but some key injuries have hurt the Golden Eagles. Anything can happen, but my predictions for the final District 8AAA standings are 1st-Tullahoma 2nd-Lincoln Co with the tiebreaker edge over Columbia 3rd-Lawrence Co 4th-Shelbyville and Franklin Co tied for last. Most of the players picked on the pre-season all district team have done well, but there have been several suprising sophomores in the district who have had great seasons. I would prefer not to mention names until the season concludes. Its like being a judge in a beauty contest. Most of the time all the girls are good looking and have many talents, so whomever you pick, someone is going to be unhappy. I'll let everyone else do the judging on the all district team.
  18. The Tullahoma Wildcat Golf team won the Region 4AAA golf championship this afternoon at Smyrna. The Cats shot a team score of 312 to edge defending Region champ Siegel by 5 strokes with a team score of 317. Tullahoma will advance to the TSSAA AAA State tournament Oct 12th and 13th at Willowbrook Golf Club near Manchester in Summittville, Tn. Tullahoma won the District 8AAA championship Monday at Lawrenceburg Country Club defeating Lawrenceburg by 18 strokes. Congratulations to the players and first year Coach Sam Melton. I think Matt Kilgore of THS was the only player to shoot under par in the Region tournament with a 71.
  19. Thx Coach T for that nice pic of the Tullahoma Golf team. I guess you attended the match. It rained like heck today in Tullahoma, so its a good thing the district tourney was in Lawrenceburg. I was worried that Lawrence Co would win the championship since it was their home course. I hope the LC Wildcats get to go on to the Region also.

  20. I would have liked to have seen Cody go to UT, but Duke wanted him more and there's no doubt the opportunity for a great education is at Duke.
  21. With the exception of Trey Burks who is out until possibly the Shelbyville game, everyone should be healthy for the game with the Rebels. Franklin Co seems to be more of a team this season without any superstars, but a bunch of good players. If Tullahoma is not mentally ready to play, there could be an upset. Franklin Co leads the overall series 30-28-2. A lot of people left early last year in Winchester when the Cats made a miracle comeback to defeat the Rebels in double overtime.
  22. The Tullahoma Wildcat Golf team won the District 8AAA golf championship this afternoon at the Lawrenceburg Country Club with a team score of 300. I can't remember all the scores since I received the info while driving to Manchester, but the Wildcats went unbeaten in the regular season and will play in the Region tourney at Smyrna Thursday. Siegel and Riverdale will challenge the Cats in Region play. The AAA state tourney will be held Oct 12th and 13th at Willowbrook Golf course in Summitville, Tn near Manchester, Tn. One team advances from Region play. Congratulations to first year Coach Sam Melton on picking up where Coach Brad White left off.
  23. Probably the same reason kids go to Vanderbilt to play football. I would say less than 5% of college players go on to play in the NFL.
  24. There are many good players in high school that don't make it on the D1 level. Every good player can have a bad game. The Mathers kid at Blackman who has already gained over 1000 yards didn't get but 70 yds against Smyrna.
