  1. I just looked at the last three games for the Pirates. Two unbeaten teams and the team that beat Signal Mtn last Friday in Polk Co. Thats murderers row. Good luck and you do have a great program.
  2. So you're talking about Sequatchie Co. I guess that sets the stage for an interesting Sequatchie Co-Signal Mtn game in a few weeks. The reason I'm asking all these questions is because I do have a sports talk show in Coffee Co and Coach Price left Coffee Co to take the job at Signal Mtn. Scott Shasteen and myself broadcast Tullahoma football games. There is a lot of interest in this story in our area. Do you think Signal Mtn will try to run up the score on Sequatchie Co?
  3. I guess I'm still confused. Why was your AD at this meeting? Was this a meeting for every AD in the state? If not, she had to know at that point, there was something wrong. I don't know if I would blame TSSAA for not notifying Signal Mtn until Oct 6th. The question is why did the schools that reported the problem, not report it to the TSSAA until 9/22.
  4. I want urge all fans of Tullahoma and Shelbyville to go to www.wsmv.com and vote for the the game to be the matchup of the week. Its between our game and Oakland at Smryna. WSMV sports will come down and cover the game of the winner. So go online and vote. The more coverage for these kids, the better chance they will be recognized on down the road for maybe a college scholarship. After you go to the site, click on sports and then click on touchdown friday.
  5. I'm confused. You stated your AD was at the meeting where the TSSAA said they were made aware of the violations on 9/22. That is when you sit out the player. You don't wait til they come to the school on Oct 6th. Its hard for me to believe that someone connected with the school, players, coaches, administrators, parents and etc didn't know anything about this issue until Oct 6th. Even if its just a rumor, it needs to be investigated to prevent these problems. I hate it for the kids and community. I don't think it will hurt the kids who are good enough to move on and play college ball. The recruiters know who they are.
  6. Shelbyville is having a big tailgating party in front of the stadium and the Golden Eagles community is ready for this game, no doubt. Tullahoma is in the second week of a two week break which could effect the mentality of the team. The long range weather forecast calls for good weather next Friday. The stage is set for a great night of football in District 8AAA. I hope there are enough Tullahoma fans back from vacations to pack the stadium. The game will be broadcast live on 101.5FM with myself and Scott Shasteen and also on local Charter channel 6. The winner will host a first round playoff game and the loser will still make the playoffs. Marquis Morton is a very talented player and will be hard to stop. Someone told me that Marquis was 19 and had failed a couple of years. If that's true, as long as he wasn't 19 before Aug. 31st of this year, then he would be eligible. I have no earthly idea about this rumor and there are always rumors floating around. I'm sure Shelbyville verified this before the season started, so I don't see an issue here. Most people think its going to be a high scoring game, but most people thought that about the GA-Tenn game. Shelbyville beat the Cats last season, so the Cats should be ready for revenge at home Friday night. Another big rivalry game in District 8AAA which has three teams ranked in the top ten in 5A. Tullahoma is ranked 7th and Shelbyville 10th. It doesn't get much better than this.
  7. There's no doubt they both have great teams, but usually when a good private school plays a good public school, the private wins. They do have an edge in getting players no matter where they are zoned for public schools. Baylor is at home and I think will win, but I pulling for the Lions to win. They represent our District 8AAA. I just hope no one is seriously hurt.
  8. I've been around instances in our area where a player might or might not be eligible. The schools here would sit out the player until it was confirmed one way or the other by the TSSAA. It didn't make any difference how good the player was. If this incident was known to be under investigation on 9/22, then the kid should have had to sit out every game until his eligibility was confirmed. I have no idea if the mistake was willful or not and shouldn't have anything to do with this. From incidents concerning Signal Mtn the last two years, it seemed like a bomb ready to explode and it finally did. The rich and poor must play by the same rules. If you're gonna dance, you have to pay the fiddler.
  9. If Signal Mtn had known about this on that date, Signal Mtn could have turned themselves on that date and still could have made the playoffs. Bottom line is they broke the TSSAA rules. You can blame anyone you want, but the blame still goes back to Signal Mtn.
  10. Signal Mtn was involved in a brawl earlier this year in a 7 on 7 passing league game. The TSSAA couldn't penalize the schools involved because they stated they had no jurisdiction over practices. I believe that school insurance covers injuries in practices and now the TSSAA might have control over these issues. I know they are looking into this. Signal Mtn got away with this with a slap on the wrist. Now we have the ineligible player issue that was not self reported. I've read in the Times of earlier issues with student athletes, parents and faculty at Signal Mtn. In college, the NCAA would say its a lack of istitutional control. Signal Mtn has a very good football program and when you're good, you are under a microscope, because everyone wants to bring down the program. The problem is that most of the student athletes, parents and faculty are innocent, but they are penalized because of the actions of a few people. Some changes need to be made in certain areas before the situation gets worse. Everyone knows UT had to clean house to get things turned around. I'm not going to mention any names, but there are some people there that need to move on before its too late. I just feel bad for the kids who didn't have anything to do with these problems. Like they say, one bad apple can spoil the barrel.
  11. I heard the Nunley kid for Franklin Co didn't play tonite. He's their best player. It doesn't seem the Rebels can win without him in the lineup. I know one player doesn't make a team, but in this case, he would have made a difference. Tullahoma got the Rebels best effort last Friday and I don't think they had a lot left for the Pirates. I'm not trying to take anything away from S. Pitt, because I know they have a great team, capable of winning a state title.
  12. We gotta wait til a week from this Friday for the gmae. Tullahoma is 2-1 in district play and 5-2 overall. Shelbyville is 6-1 and 2-1 in district play. Both teams are ranked in the top ten in the state in 5A. The golden eagles beat the Cats last season at Shellbyville, but this years game is at Tullahoma. This should be one of the best games this season between two rivals with a lot at stake.
  13. Congratulations to Emily Williams of Lawrence Co for winning the individual girls state title Wed at Willowbrook Golf Course. Its always good to see someone from District 8AAA do well.
  14. It will be interesting how Franklin Co responds after losing a double overtime game to their biggest rival Tullahoma in Winchester. The Rebels came up a foot short. Its hard to get over a loss like that. If Franklin Co gives the same effort at S. Pittsburgh, they have a good shot at winning. Imagine how you would feel if you lost to Marion Co like that. They don't do anything real fancy, they just line up and run over teams with two outstanding backs. I also was impressed with their line play. The speed of S.Pitt could be the difference. The Rebels looked good on defense Friday night against a good Tullahoma offense.
  15. It was another classic battle between the Tullahoma Wildcats and the Franklin Co Rebels. Tullahoma won in the 2nd overtime 31-30. Franklin Co went for the 2pt conversion and the win, but came up inches short and the Cats survived in the 2nd overtime. Personally, I felt more relieved than happy with the victory. Players from both teams put it on the line tonite and Coach Olive said after the game that he would have gone for 2 and the win if Tullahoma had been in the same situation. It's a very tough loss for the Rebels who led the entire game until the 2nd overtime. I have to give Tullahoma credit for a gutty performance and hanging tough against an inspired Franklin Co team. Its just unbelievable the way the Cats have won the last three times they played the Rebels in Winchester. Hats off to both teams Friday night in a game neither team deserved to lose.
  16. Nobody's saying anything about this game. It's the quiet before the storm.
  17. On paper, it looks like Tullahoma should win, but this is a big rival game in Winchester and the Rebels had a week off to prepare for the Wildcats. Franklin Co has a great running game and both teams need a win to have a chance to finish in one of the top two spots in the final District 8AAA standings. Both teams are 1-1 in district play. Franklin Co got a big district win over Lawrence Co in their last game 42-14 and Tullahoma beat Chatt Tyner last Friday night 24-14 in the Cats homecoming game. The early forecast is for good weather this Friday night. Its always a tough physical game. If you can't attend, the game will be broadcast live on 101.5 FM with Scott Shasteen and myself. You can also listen on www.fantasyradio.com or local Charter tv channel 6. I anticipate a huge crowd for this annual showdown of neighboring counties.
  18. Tullahoma had QB Steve Matthews who committed to UT, but was there with Heath Shuler, but left the Vols and ended up setting all kinds of records at then Memphis State. Started one game for the Jacksonville Jaguars and beat the Pittsburgh Steelers. Steve is currently the offensive coordinator at Siegal HS in Murfreesboro.
  19. Tullahoma wins their homecoming game with Tyner Academy of Chatt 24-14 on a cool damp night on a wet field. It was a ugly game somewhat with the Cats jumping to out to a 14-0 lead early and they led 21-7 at the half. Lots of penalties and sloppy play mixed in with some very good plays. Tullahoma historically doesn't play well on homecoming night, but this game was mixed in with Lincoln Co last week and Franklin Co next Friday. Tyner had a lot of good athletes, but they are young and somewhat one dimensional on offense. You can never take a win for granted and Coach Olive was pleased to get the victory. The game reminded me of when the Cats played in the same district with Maplewood, Stratford, Whites Creek and Hillsboro. Next up is a big rival District 8AAA game in Winchester against the Franklin Co Rebels this coming Friday night.
  20. Montrell Berry and Trey Burks of Tullahoma are great running backs who really compliment each other. Berry has speed and quickness and Burks has speed and power.
  21. The Tullahoma Wildcats (3-2) host the Chatt Tyner Academy Rams (1-3) this Friday night in the homecoming game for the Cats. These teams haven't played each other since 1994. Both teams enter this game with a win as Tullahoma defeated Lincoln Co last Friday 41-20 and Tyner beat East Ridge 12-7. Both teams have a lot of speed and it could turn into a track meet. I hope the young men can stay focused with all the distractions of homecoming and win their 3rd straight game. If you can't attend, listen to Scott Shasteen and myself on www.fantasyradio.com or local Charter tv channel 6.
  22. Its always good to be at home. Tullahoma rolled over Lincoln 41-20 and led 41-7 in the second half. The Cats took advantage of 5 Falcon turnovers in the first half to lead 27-0. The cats are 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in District 8AAA. It was a hard hitting game as usual and a great crowd on hand. Tullahoma hosts Chatt. Tyner next Friday night for homecoming. It will be the first meeting ever in football for these two schools.
  23. David, I had received the same message and quite frankly, I didn't no any different until I read the Chatt.Times Tuesday morning. I'm relieved that what I had heard was not true and I pray that this young man can win this battle and make a full recovery.
