  1. MBA showed a rather imaginative mix between the run and the pass in a couple of games this season and will have to return to that style against BA IMHO. They like roll-out Wise who showed uncanny accuracy when throwing on the run. Unfortunately, for Wise and MBA, he has an injured leg and limped noticeably against Ensworth. I expect that Colbert will start the BA game and for BA to play with 8 men in the box daring MBA to throw.
  2. My perception of this game is sort of "old school" as it comes from the boxing ring. I see MBA is a "heavyweight" that plays, for the most part, "heavyweights" (4A and 5A competition i.e. 2006 4A runner-up, 2005 5A Champion plus top teams in D-II AA) while the Ensworth team is a "lightweight" that plays, for the most part, "lightweights". After watching both teams play, and studying both rosters I saw that MBA is much bigger than Ensworth, especially at the point of attack. MBA has more offensive weapons than Ensworth. They have Vinsang, Waddey and Bartholomew to carry the ball. QB Wise can beat you with his legs and his arm. They have a very good and physical offensive line. They have a decent short to intermediate control passing game and they have a real threat in their big TE, Sloan, who went 88 yards for a TD against Ravenwood. MBA does a better job of sustaining long drives than Ensworth and MBA plays more players than Ensworth, which pays dividends in the 4th quarter. Ensworth has a good TB in Tavarres, but little else to go with him. Defensively, I just don't see how Ensworth will be able to match up with MBA's offensive personnel and their Smashmouth approach, especially for four quarters. When it really mattered, MBA held Hillsboro's explosive offense to just 12 points. Until proven otherwise, I'll have to take the "heavyweight" in this bout. I expect that MBA will control the line of scrimmage and the scoring....MBA by 21+.
  3. OK, Ravenwood fans, I've given you some commentary on what MBA has shown this season. How about telling something about your team. What kind of defense do they run. What type of offense. Do they throw the ball. Who do they rely on to carry the mail. Which players, or units, do you feel will present MBA with match-up problems? What are your strengths and weaknesses? How were you able to beat a good Franklin team?

  5. My first Baylor-McCallie game was 1974 and am looking forward to this one. I saw the Baylor-MBA game and MBA is much more physical than they've been in the last three or four years and Baylor just couldn't match up with MBA. I expect that the Red Raiders will similar difficulties with the Blue Tornado this year. I'm looking forward to the McCallie-MBA game later this season. McCallie should be able to match up better with MBA.
  6. Final score: MBA 17 - Hillsboro 12. It was 12 to 3 in favor of Hillsboro at the half. It took two quarters for the MBA defense to adjust to the speed of the Hillsboro skill players, but on the second play of the second half, MBA senior safety Jas Rader, laid the wood to Hillsboro's great junior WR/CB Eric Gordon just as he caught a pass in the backfield. That hit seemed to set the tone for the MBA defense as they proceeded to shutout the Burros for the next two quarters. MBA pulled to within three points of the Burros when junior QB Spencer Wise hit junior TE Joseph Sloan for a 25-yard scoring strike. The PAT by Andrew Fletcher made it 12-10, Hillsboro. Later in the 3rd, MBA senior fullback Ben Bartholomew blasted up the middle for 12-yard run to give MBA the lead, which was followed by another Andrew Fletcher PAT. The Burros had two chances in the 4th quarter when the MBA punt returner muffed a Hillsboro punt giving the ball to the Burros at the MBA 20 yard line. On the ensuing play, MBA senior CB Tee Stumb made an athletic one-handed interception of a Matt Arent pass and returned it some 20 yards to give MBA 1st and ten at the MBA 35 yard line. MBA turned the ball over again as its runningback fumbled while striving for first down yardage. MBA held the Burros on downs as MBA linebacker tackled Hillsboro RB Jacquese Seaward for loss on 4th and seven from the Hillsboro 45 yard line to put the game away. MBA took control of both sides of the line of scrimmage in the 3rd quarter. MBA's D-line and LBs were effective in pressuring Hillsboro QBs and were credited with 7 sacks and just as many hurries. Hillsboro was as fast as advertised at the skill positions, but MBA's overall team size, strength (MBA's certainly not slow by any means) and athleticism on both sides of the ball wore Hillsboro down and enabled MBA to make the big plays when they needed them in this come from behind victory. MBA pushed its record to 4-0 and has scored 100 points in four games against and allowed 25 points against Antioch, Independence, Baylor and Hillsboro. Hillsboro is 3-1. This loss does nothing to hurt Hillsboro's playoff hopes as it was not a Region game. Hillsboro plays Maplewood next week and MBA travels to Pope John Paul II. It was a great high school atmosphere between two of the best football teams in the state, not matter what the classification. Both teams can play with anyone and expect to win.
  7. Mba's freshmen team is one of the best led by Jay Cole and Robert rolfe on the line and zac kordel and christain waddey in the backfield. There is many other great players, but thats enough said.
  8. The three kids from Alabama #44,#23,#15 played big inn all the games to help.
  9. there were no top performers but from what i saw they all played great but the tall white guy #4 was a factor in those games and a high flyer as well, snagging 12 rebounds and 14 points against idlewild and #21 also had an outstanding scoring and reabounding game against the memphis war eagles
  10. The pg is the best in the state. He is very versatile. he can take u off the dribble. He can post u up also. He can reverse out and hit the intermediate jumper. He can rebound with anyone.
  11. I think the Wildcats will win b/c they have the best starting 5 in the state!
  12. Which teams will vie for the state championship this fall in D2?
