  1. No doubt that Harpeth has a chance. But until the King (Waverly) is dethrowned, you have to think that the long run they have had in the last 10 years still makes them the team to beat.

However, take a look at this:

Waverly has the most recent district championships.

Creekwood won last year's district tournament and advanced to state.

Stewart Co. beat Creekwood twice last year and returns 8 starters.

Harpeth knocked Stewart out of the district tournament.

So you could say any have a shot.

  2. I realize the topics (rumors, etc) have been blocked on coachT about Cheatham County girls basketball. When will the official TSSAA rulings be so we basketball fans will know exactly what has/will happen?

  3. Leslie is/will be a four-year starter at second base and all-district player. She's the lead-off hitter and also right at a 4.0 GPA student with all kinds of other academic and leadership awards. If she signs with Cumberland, they are getting an outstanding person/player.

  4. Lacey Keatts, the All-District pitcher for the Rebelettes, signed a college scholarship with Vol State.

Lacey, the teams' MVP the last two years, will return to the Lady Rebs for her senior season.

The Stewart County squad, which won only one game the year before Lacey and the other six seniors joined the squad, went 16-12 last season and advanced to the semi-finals of the district tournament.

The team returns 8 starters and have a couple of other girls that could play college ball.

  5. Everybody in the state will be keeping an eye on what happens in Stewart County next week in the district tournament.

Man, we haven't had this much excitment coming to Dover since the Yankees invaded back in the winter of 1862. B)

  6. This may seem radical, but could the district coaches vote to seed Cheatham second so Sycamore (the current #3 team) could stay at third and play the sixth seed. It seems ufair if Sycamore moved to the number 2 seed and then plays Cheatham, possibly getting knocked out in the first round with no chance advancing to the regionals.

  7. the site in dover may be far for harpeth, but harpeth is as equally as far from dover when the Rebs have to travel there.

It's just one of those things in a tournament. somebody has to travel. but as long as it's rotated between sites, then it's fair.

you're right, however, if cheatham and harpeth makes it to the finals, it should be a great game!!!!!

  8. The new gym in Stewart County will be packed for the upcoming district tournament. And with all the smack being talked about on CoachT about who is the best and other topics (like recruiting), I can only say the ecomony of Dover will benefit because of the interest being drummed up about District 10-AA.

I went to a middle school tournament last night in Paris and the Henry County gym was almost filled, so what will the high school tourney hold? Play Ball!!!!!

  9. It's simple: the district tournament will decide who is the best between Harpeth and Cheatham County. Solve it in Dover. Play on the neutral court. Both have good teams and neither is a shoe-in for the district finals. Other teams could make it.

But whoever is left standing can claim to be "district champion".

  10. I think a good round number for a winning season is 75% talent and 25% coaching. A top coach is one who comes in, takes average talent and developes (year-after-year) into district contending teams. A good coach can have competitive teams but kind of goes up and down (as far as competing for titles) with the talent they have.

Even a bad coach can have a good team if they have talent where the team can just run and gun and use athletic ability to defeat another team.
