  1. I know he was mentioned earlier, but this kid is the real thing. Are there others across the state? Of course. The problem with picking "the best" players across the state is that most of the people responding can only talk about the people on their teams or players from the teams they are playing. The only way to tell if they are truly good is to see how they match up against great teams (those who consistenly make it to the depths of their regional tournaments, sub-state rounds, and eventually to Spring Fling). Matt Fessenden is one of those guys. He has the accolades to prove it. In arguably the toughest district in the state (evident by Farragut and Bearden making it to the final 4 of Spring Fling in each of the past 6 years), Matt has been named all-district for the past two years, was the district defensive player of the year last year, made all region, all prep-xtra, and both all state teams. He signed this year to play D1 soccer next year at Marshall. He is on a team this year that is going to struggle, after losing 12 seniors from last year, but he is truly one of the best in the state. I think he can match skills with most, if not all, of the players in the state.

  3. It's very easy to sit on the sideline and blame coaches for a team's lack of production. I know that Coach Hutchins and his staff are working their tails off. There is an old adage about sports and having success. You have to have horses in the barn to be successful. The last horses SD saw was back in 93. That was a dominating football team. There have been no star athletes at SD in a long time. Coaches can coach mediocre players to be better, but your mediocre players are not going to be as good as the really good players from another team. This isn't a coaching problem, it is an athlete problem, and there seems to be a lack of them at SD.
  4. To the coaches and players on our schedule this year: The SCHS players and coaches would like to say thanks to everyone this year for a very competitive season. You were all great competition and fun to play. Columbia and Chattanooga...you guys were great hosts. Congratulations on extending your season as far as you did. Congratulations of course to Bearden and Farragut from our district. I know it stinks to get so close and not reach your goal, but you were great representatives of Knoxville and our district. One last thing we would like to thank everyone for is for your prayers and concerns for our players, especially Ryan Roberts. Everyone have a great off-season. We'll see you next year. SCHS
  5. Thanks a ton for what you guys are doing. You really don't understand how tough this has been for us. Thanks for your support. Hopefully, we will all be around to thank you in person.
  6. 1. Farragut vs. 8. Heritage 2. Bearden vs. 7. William Blount 3. Sevier County vs. 6. South Doyle 4. Maryville vs. 5. West Top 4 Seeds are Home Most games, except Maryville, are at 7 PM.
  7. And for your info Hoya, Maryville has 4 wins, but....Farragut has 5 wins. They are actually in first place points wise. Maryville finishes with 13 points. Bearden has 14 points. Farragut has 15 right now with one game to go, and SC has 11 points with 2 games to go. That is how it breaks down.

  9. AMEN!!! It's not a money problem. It is having enough officials in the organization. But, the organizations are bad and more than half the officials have never played the game. The solution would be to go to local colleges and recruit officials from the student body who has played the game. What college kid doesn't want to make some extra money a few nights a week. The recruitment is the problem. Until then, we have to suffer with bad officiating, whetlher it be a two man or a three man crew.
  10. Ooltewah guys, This is Coach Gohn from Sevier County. WE ARE NOT CANCELLING THE GAME FOR ANYTHING!! Thought you'd be happy to hear that. That is one nice thing about not having to share a field with another sport. I don't have to cancel for rain. See you tomorrow. Have a safe trip.
  11. I coach at Sevier County High School in the same district as Bearden and Farragut. My team has played both teams this year. If you ask me, Bearden is still the number 1 team. They have such great poise and control on the defensive end of the field. Their offense is quick and precise. Farragut plays flat across the back. When Bearden begins to work the ball through those defenders, they will be on a run. Farragut is a great ball club, don't get me wrong, but I think Bearden still has their number.
