  1. You are probably right about MBA, but isn't BA coed? You are right though, I forgot about the single sex schools.

BA is co-ed, as is Ensworth. Both chose to "play up" in a higher enrollment classification.

The logic of doubling single sex schools (and this applies to Harpeth Hall and GPS, for example) is that the school has a larger pool of students to draw from than an equal sized co-ed school: in a 500 student co-ed school it would be expected that roughly 250 would be of the opposite sex, but in a single sex institution all 500 would be of one gender, hence a greater population of potential athletes to draw upon. Am I correct in this assesment?

  2. Gee...maybe that was two way street. McCallie had an open date too...didn't they? /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

They (McCallie) had a game scheduled and when the opportunity to play Riverdale came along made arrangements to get out of the scheduled date in order to make the Riverdale game happen.

  3. Coach, I am fairly sure that JPII is going Div II AAA, as is Ensworth and Knoxville Webb. I could be wrong.

I believe stbulldog is correct: two divisions in DII, with the listed "AAA" teams, the "AA" teams, and JPII being in the "AA" division, while those listed in "A" will stay there.

  4. I have been under the impression that the NFHS rule about recognizing only one sanctioning body per state is part of the problem as well; being that a game between two schools from different sanctioning bodies is not allowed. (And I think the penalties for such a contest can be quite harsh.) If the TSSAA wins, and there is a total split between public and private, I would expect discussion and possible future legal action in that area.

  5. I love folks jumping to conclusions. Not EVERYONE at R'dale is hating on McCallie. In fact there are a few of us pulling for them to win it all and will be at MTSU Saturday night rooting for them, that is unless y'all do not want us there. :thumb:

as someone on the periphery of chattanooga private schools, I can safely say that from what I've heard, and those people I have talked to, there is nothing but the utmost respect for Riverdale, their players, and their coaches from the McCallie people. I saw the game earlier in the year and was impressed by the sportsmanship shown by all those involved on the field. Coach A is a class act, and I wish him and his team well for the remainder of the season.

  6. I watched it and had no problems. I thought the quality was very good as well. Looking forward to seeing Friday's game now.

I'll be there. From what I've been told there is no internet connection at the field so I'll have to do a long range point to point connection. If I can find a place to hook in the broadcast will take place.

did anyone watch the Ryan vs McCallie broadcast (I know a large number did). Need feedback on how it looked. I had to reset my encoder so I could do the broadcast and was wondering if it came through alright.

    Any freezing?

    Thanks

    Dean

  7. Another school that has a similar region record is Tyner in the AA region in Chattanooga. I don't know the specific numbers but they haven't lost a region game in several years. What is the explanation? Good coaching? Are Tyner kids born better football players? Is it the water?

I think Tyner being a "magnet" school might have something to do with it.

  8. I know that the schools have to "rent" the stadium in order to play a game there, and they give up all concession and parking only taking the gate. If I remember correctly the price to rent the field is in the 5 to 6 thousand dollar range. If you don't draw a good crowd you lose money on the deal. I know the Baylor/McCallie game has been there the past five years at least.

I don't think UTC has much to do with the running of the stadium as it is owned by Frank Burke (or more correctly he runs it) who owns the Chattanooga Lookouts.

Having said that, I would think the more UTC could show off its facilities to potential recruits and walk-ons, the better off they would be...

  9. Thanks for the feedback, CC and Mr. P.

The Treadwell matchup is interesting. Treadwell had 10 regular season games last year, so presumably they dropped one of those 10 opponents from 2005. Perhaps it was Olive Branch (MS), who beat Treadwell by 58. I'm not sure if McCallie will beat Treadwell by 58, and even if Olive Branch was the team that was dropped, but I would assume McCallie would be a heavy favorite, and thus I'm curious, if indeed OB was dropped, why Treadwell would want to travel five hours over two time zones for this game when they could get a similar game (opponent-wise) closer to Memphis.

No announcement has been made officially (that I know of), but McCallie has dropped Treadwell and replaced them with a game against Riverdale.

  10. From looking at early results I would say that the two favorites right now have to be BA and MBA, ,with MUS and McCallie having an outiside chance. I've been hearing that Marty Ross from BA has a hamstring injury and may not be able to compete, which would hurt BA in the points race, and be a shame for such a great young man.

  11. CC, I saw on McCallie's website that L-FO and Lovett were dropped for Treadwell and Columbia (SC) for the 2006 season. Do you know what happened; i.e., did L-FO and/or Lovett decide not to fulfill the second part of what is usually a home-and-home, or were these one game deals only in 2005? Just curious.

They were a one year deal, as Georgia contracts were re-done for the upcoming season.
