  1. The coaches vote in a meeting before the tournament starts. Most districts, have an agreement that the coach(s) that wins the regular season wins coach of the year. In 13AA co-coaches this year McMillan and Suiter since OC and GC tied.

Regular season all district and regular season MVP also voted on before the tournament. And although it seems unfair sometimes, the all-tournament vote must be turned in at 1/2 time of the final game.

  2. As of last night Memphis district 15 and 16, region 8 looks like this.

    Oakhaven 1

    vs loser Treadwell/Trezevant

    Hillcrest 3

    vs loser BTW/Carver

    BTW/Carver winner

    vs Sheffield 4

    Treadwell/Trezevant winner

    vs Mitchell 2

Do not under estimate Mitchell, lost to Oakhaven without Div 1 player Andrea Holmes(Injured will be back). Hillcrest has Crystal Riley LSU signee. Oakhaven has Marie Jackson Louisville signee. Any of these 3 is as good as anyone in region 7AA. If I am not mistaken Riley was the state tournament MVP, when they defeated NSide 3 years ago. (W. Houston was also on that team.)

Looking at scores in 2008, in our area, as 07 is far gone and teams have changed to much, Mitchell beat Haywood 15. Hillcrest lost to NSide 13 @ NS.

So far I would say Hillcrest, Mitchell, Oakhaven & BTW are the best 4 teams in region 8.

These teams have 2 players as talented as anyone around our area on each team. In a one game do or go home situation, sometimes that is all you need, especially on your home court.

  3. That sent me over the edge, ugh rim , ugh bowl in this case. (flush!)

Got Haywooooooooooooooooood, then NSHD says more torture IF LUCKY, see the best player we have ever seen, forget the bags, I'll make a reservation for stall #1. EARRRRL, RALLLPHHH, EARRRRL, OH THE PAIN, HOW SICKENING CAN IT BE!

NSHD set Milan up for this. He and the wizard are casting spells as usual in tournament time. What evil lurks within? NSHD's magic is more powerful than Joyner's refereeing, oh my!

  4. I noticed last year when Milan played them in the region and ns played them in the district and this year the 2 times I have seen them, call it helter skelter, whatever.

Like a press, it may suppose to be 2-2-1. It ends up looking like a run & jump, as some get lost in the moment and just go afer the ball, no matter where it may be. Sometimes the offical drawn up play be the coach ends up in a bad situation. But if you have good decision makers like Butler, that has natural basketball instincts, that type of play ends up in a lay up. You'll notice if they are pressing or trapping, it will never look the same twice. Once GC figures that out, they will attack it, instead of letting the press attack them and it is game over. 13AA teams have more than 1 weapon on each team. That kind of play usually stops 1 good player and if the others are not capable of making baskets , then advantage FW

  5. I'll add my 2 cents worth to you great post GCP.

Milan's Q Simpson is an unsong hero, defense, rebounding.

Haywood is small and quick. Milan should dominate the boards. Haywood's quickness could casue problems.

NS has Ross, but Alex Hill is a great post player. Smith is a good offside rebounder and Fason is a fresman S Grey. NS does a good job of spacing the floor to get the ball to Hill. She is tall and long armed and the left handed bank shot is pretty good. Smith is a strong rebounder on misses.

OC is loaded in all 5 spots.

F/W has some athletes and a good guard. GC is fundamentally sound. F/W plays a, let's just say different style.

Covington seemed to also have some good athletes and some size. Not as fundamental as MW, but not bad.

  6. Tightwad there is no real place to hide any more. NSHD did you leave any bag on the bench? You set Milan up!! HAywoooooooooooooooooood !! The pain, ohhhhhhhhhh the pain!!!!!Tightwad there is no real place to hide any more. NSHD did you leave any bags on the bench? You set Milan up!! HAywoooooooooooooooooood !! The pain, ohhhhhhhhhh the pain!!!!!

  7. As I said before the OC/ Gibson County game. He was the one who called the "T" while we were trying to get our players situated and during the substituion to one off the floor. The ref handed the ball to OC while we were doing our sub and no time to get the extra player off the floor. Yes its a "T" but by rule you have to let a player get off the floor or you dont hand the ball for inbounds. Also Barron called that game as well. I have never said he is not good, becuase he is. That game cused a tie with OC and they won the coing toss...we were second and they were first...thats changes an outcome I would say. We did not win the toss as luck would have it. My point is, he should not be calling games of that magnatude and as direct result he affected the outcome of the tournament. OC played better and probably would have won, but once again you have officals who have a vested interest in the outcome of 13AA girls basketball take matters in own hands.

Anyway you still have not given me a reason why he should call 13AA games. I given you several why he should not....I'm still waiting????

He made the correct call, as the girl went in the game, didn't tell the player she was going in for to leave the floor. When GC was 1/4 way up the floor, he realized there was 6 on the floor. And Barron did NOT call that game. The reason he is assigned 13 AA is he is one of the best and that is where he is told to go and YOUR coaches must think so also.

  8. Pate was tangled and getting loose ended up throwing an elbow. As an official sometimes you only catch the 2nd part of stuff like that. Have you ever heard they didn't see what happened to cause the retaliation. It has happened many times. Tough call to make with such little time left.

GC in my opinion came out as well as anyone, as there is nowhere to hide in 7AA region. Tonight made no difference in what happens next week. Good luck to 13AA.

Good job to Coach S and NSHD, to hang in there. It is tough to stay with Poston and Grey when they get it going.

    MW vs Haywood

    OC vs NS

    GC vs FW

    MW vs Cov

  9. If you would go back to my original post, I do not disagree with you, about the possible conflict of interest.

You have not answered my questions

What did he do in this tournament that changed the outcome of any game?

And in the regular season it makes no difference, because he nor you can predict the future.

And like I said also, if your coaches had a problem with it, they could put a stop to it. All they would have to do is say the word. They know a good official when they see one.

  10. I attended the GC OC game @ OC. First of all OC stepped up that night without their best player and defeated OC. It is difficult to win without a good player. You of all people should realize that fact , as you guys are playing w/o MS. Griffin.

After all that has happened in 13 AA you are basically saying Joyner knew the outcome of every game that has taken place, before it ever happened, and his calls @ OC that night were all planned out to put GC in this horrible spot they are in. LOL

Tell me what difference it would make to Joyner who won the OC/GC game that night or any other night.

It is no different than when M Barron or Fred Ivey from Dyer, officiates a GC game. Barron is one of the better officials around. Just because people know who Joyner is, it does nor give you a reason to bash him, because of where he is assigned. I would say you could, by name, tell me 10 other better officials than Joyner, since you go to so many games. You also probably know all the ones that do perfect games every time out.

I would take Barron and Joyner doing any game.

And like you say this has been going on for years!!! The T$$AA filed your request in file 13. If his officiating is so bad, the coaches in 13AA can request him not to do their games. Upon that request by a coach, that official will not be assigned any more games on that teams home floor. So since this has been going on for years, it is VERY evident your coaching staff (may very well be the best I have ever seen in high school) has not issued this request. Not has OC, DB, MW or any other 13AA school, except Joyner himself opting out of all Milan games.

If you have any respect for your coaching staff, you might want to follow their lead!!!

  11. To answer your question on the offiicating...I don't know. Maybe we should have different officials especailly during tournaments. That takes the bias out. But I defy anyone that can convince me that Joyner should be allowed to officiate any girls 13AA game during regular season or tournament. Especially when he has a daughter who plays for milan??? Can anyone answer that one for me.

Your right come regional time if your still standing your probably a decent team and who knows what can happen. My motto say's it all.

I do believe the word tournament is in there. So back up what you say and , and let's hear about the game in the tournament where Joyner has devistated someone with his officiating.

  12. GCFAN2 not that I disagree with you, but name me one game in the tournament where Joyner has done ANYTHING that affected the outcome. Even if he does the GC/OC game tomorrow night, and you lose what difference is it going to make? You don't know who you are going to play next and you don't know who you will be bracketed with. You must win in the region, the district means no more than a home game. In the region you will trully get to enjoy the group from Memphis, more than likely.

  13. Let me say 1st, I hope a speedy recovery for MS. Griffin. Basketball is great , but it is not the most important thing. To LNF, make sure she gets checked out in every way possible. Whether she plays high school or not, she can still play at the next level. She is one of the best. Take care of her.

Westview is a dangerous team right now. Ball movement, shooting, etc. all clicking right now.

Actually the score of the Milan/GC game was 50-44, the board was incorrect. Could not believe GC outrebounded Milan, good job GC. Milan played hard the 2nd half and did what they had to do to win. Don't know about the calls, will have to watch the tape. I was watching other things.

The only thing that was decided tonight was Milan and Martin get 1st round home games, next week.

Next week is when the cheese gets a little more binding, when we will all see each other again, in Haywoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood!!!!!!!!!. All this hoopla this week is just a warmup and decides position. All the talk about the 2 spot is the place to be, you can chunk that theory. Again you can never predict 13AA. That's just the way it is. There is no safe place in region 7AA.

  14. Had to be over 100,000 then as he made a hundred every tournament game @ GC

USJ could use some bags as HAYWOOOOOOOOOOD got them last night. I feel so bad all the time, NSHD could I be pregnant, OH NO Is that strip GC blue or OC blue, Westview blue OHHHHH the pain, even more blue Nside OHHHH I may be!!!!

  15. DC played well the 1st half, hanging close to Milan 28-21. DC was their own worst enemy the 3rd quarter as they missed several free throws. Milan won the 3rd 20-7 because of that. When Dc went down that much, Milan started slowing the game down using clock. It forced Dc to come out of the zone and play man. No one can guard Grey or Poston in man, game over......

Missed free throws will get you every time.
