  2. Does anyone know who played well for the Travelers 15U in the Boo Williams Invitational Tournament? I did hear that Tyrone Caldwell played very well. Who else?
  3. Does anyone know who played well for the Travelers 17U in the Boo Williams Invitational Tournament? How well did Jeremiah Crutcher and Mike Jones play?
  4. Add the Reebok Southeast Elite to the list of top 15U teams. This past weekend they qualified for the Nationals by finishing 3rd in the Birmingham Alabama AAU Super Regionals. The Elite took two teams down and ended up splitting their big men between the two teams. They matched up against the Birmingham Challenge the game before the championship and they start 4 players that are 6'5 or better. The match up caused the Elite some problems on the board. They turned around and smoked the Birmingham Challenge's second team by 40 in the consolation game. The Elite was led by Hunters Lane's Josh Henley who averaged 24 per game, Madison Alabama's 6'11" Bawah who had 7 dunks in the consolation game, Hunters Lane's Erik who averaged 10 per game with a 20 point performance against the Challenges first team hitting 5 3-pointers, Cookeville's Judah Akers who went 7-for-9 from 3-point range to score 21 in the team's second game, and scored on 5 3-pointers in the first game, Weaver Alabama's Tanrance Landrum who was tremendous defensively, averaged 15 per game, and at 5'11" had a monster dunk in the consolation game. Culleoka's DeMario Williams made it to the tournament on the last day and played excellent defense and distributed the ball well at the point guard position. He didn't score a lot of points as he is capable of because of his role that the point. Jackson's 6'8" Brennan Torstrick played very well on the boards day two of the tournament. The team went 5-1 (3-0 in their pool) playing 3 games Saturday and 3 games Sunday. They went into Sunday as the 3rd seed because although the beat their first two opponents by 30, they wond their 3rd game by 2 points. The two Challenge teams won all of their games by 15, playing on two games on Saturday. The Elite was not as fresh in game three.

  6. Yes. The SE Elite 14U team played in the 15U bracket this weekend and did pretty well. They beat a good Thunder 15U team with a free throw with .1 seconds left. The only game they lost was their last game on Saturday after playing 3 that day to the Nashville Thrasher. The SE Elite 15U team will be playing in Birmingham, AL this weekend.
  7. SE Elite Tigers is the 8th grade team. At the 8th grade level the Tennessee Tigers and SE Elite combined. Alex Waddey is coaching the SE Elite/ Shooting Star team. Bill Tidwell is involved with all the Elite teams
  8. Erik Wisdom will be playing on the Southeast Elite alongside Henley. The Elite has combined with the Shooting Stars so the Elite will also have super freshman DeMario Williams from Culleoka. Hunters Lane point guard Tim Allen and back up Kenny Williams are playing for the Nashville Stallions. Not sure yet what the other Hunters Lane players are going to do. The Thunder will have another day of camp on Saturday from 10-12. The fee is $20.
  9. Last I heard McAdoo has decided to play with the 16U Thunder, Henley has decided to stay with the Southeast Elite, and Upton is still with the Thunder 15U. The Thunder 15U will be have a mini-camp/try-out today at Goodpasture at 5:30pm. The 15U will hopefully have 2 15U teams and pretty much has there team(s) in place. With some players still kind of undecided they may still have room for a few.
  10. Gomab2 do you have any information on an upcoming event like this in Murfreesboro in April?
  11. The Reebok Southeast Elite 13U/7th grade boys basketball team is looking for 7th graders or 13 year olds that don't turn 14 until after Sept. 1. Anyone interested please call Bill Tidwell at 293-8946 (or email at billnt11@transfrm.com) or Henry Garrett at 884-7606.
  12. It is a shame that there were 11 players selected for the McDonald All-American game that are ranked lower than Jamont Gordon in all major polls. Of the 11 there are 4 guards in the game that are ranked lower than him.
  13. I am not knocking BA or MLK in the least bit. I have seen BA play numerous times and have been watching several of these boys since that played little league. The coach has ALWAYS rotated 9 or 10 players as part of his philosophy. I've watched Bone hit 3 after 3 and then when his minutes are up he's rotated out. That doesn't mean the player replacing him comes in doing the things he just done. That's depth. BA is playing nationally because Brandon Wright is ranked nationally. That's just like when Whites Creek had David Vaughn. He was ranked nationally so Whites Creek was ranked nationally. I am not saying Whites Creek was not good but were they ranked nationally before Vaughn. Were they ranked nationally after he left. The answer to that is NO. I don't know that BA was playing the teams before Wright's time that they are playing now. In the national spotlight no one heard of St. Vincent-St. Mary before LeBron James and they are certainly not being spoke of in the same light now since he left. Again this is not a knock on any other team, coach, or player.
  14. Hunters Lane, Franklin, MLK, and BA are all very good teams. These teams playing each other on one night would not do justice in determining who is the best that's why the pros play a best of 7 series to determine the champion. On any given night any one of these teams could beat the other. Because of this the Tennessean probably sees HL as being a better team because they are a deeper team. When you look at BA you've got to look at them like you look at the old Chicago Bulls. BA has got the BEST player on a good team. It did not matter that the LA Lakers really had a better team and that they played better talent in the West. The Bulls dominated 4 of 5 games to win the championship. It was the same when they played Portland, the Jazz, and the Suns. All were better teams but it came down to the good team with the superstar winning. Brandon Wright can carry this team to victory over all of these teams and it certainly doesn't hurt to have a pistol like Josh Boone from the perimeter. My vote is still Hunters Lane as a TEAM. Their bench is more solid than the others. They have sophomores that won the city last year and they have arguably the best freshman (Josh Henley) in the mid-state. Their juniors coming off the bench would start and star on any other team especially Mike Jones. Jeremiah Crutcher is a big time scorer though he chooses not to be because of his role at the point guard. he hit 5 3-pointers last night.
  15. Pearl-Cohn beat Hillsboro by 9. Antioch beat Ravenwood by 30.
  16. Maplewood would have had a great team! No one in the city would have been able to contend with that. With the academic issues Maplewood and Stratford has had it has a little easier for students to get transfers to better performing schools. Football is also a big reason these boys opted to go elsewhere. Erik Wisdom (halfback) and Deaunte' Mason (quarterback) are also excellent football players. The freshman coach at Maplewood was very open in telling Mason that he was not going to be the quarterback of the freshman team, but that his son was so Mason opted to go to Pearl-Cohn where he started as a freshman on the varsity team (and did VERY well given the team).
  17. Ravenwood beat Hillsboro in 11-AAA. Not sure of any details on the scouting report, but everyone I have talked to on that side agrees that PC and Antioch will beat both and meet up again. Yes Mason was hitting the outside shot. He needs to work on his form but he knocks it down regularly. The PC big man, Charles Watson did well. Didn't score a lot but did everything else they needed him to do. In the second half they put Mason on the point, Antioch stuck to a man with McAdoo on him and he drove at will.
  18. Pearl-Cohn beat Antioch in the championship game. It was close in the first half. In the second half two words.... "Deaunte' Mason". He was unstoppable.
  19. Pearl-Cohn wins big over McGavock. McGavock loses 3 player today before game time due to suspensions. Their top freshman Kalen is even gone from varsity for the year. Antioch wins big over Hunters' Lane. Hunters' Lane could not get it going all night. Kyle Upton played very well and Mike McAdoo dominated blocking shots. It was obvious HL were tired. Erik Wisdom was not a factor. As part of a disciplinary action by the coach Erik had to run for an hour before the game. He and the team worked out (shot around) as well before the game. They had no legs. Staying after school from 2:15pm to game time may have been ill-advised. Coach Campbell is still a great coach and it showed very little class from some of the HL fans that started hollering very negative things to the coach and some of the players. 15-3 is still a very good season. Pearl-Cohn and Antioch play tomorrow night.

  21. Pearl beat Whites Creek (by 20), McGavock beat Stratford (by 10 or 15). Hunters Lane plays East Lit. at 8:00pm. Antioch plays Maplewood at 5:30pm. Pearl will play McGavock Wednesday.
