  1. True. And I also forgot that Tim Johnson of ECS should be the third finalist in D II...
  2. Has everyone forgotten about Mississippi State signee Jarvis Varnardo??? Top 5 player in the state, minimum. And there is no chance Brandan Wright is that low. Heck, he is CLEARLY the #1 player in the state...
  3. Wow, that is a phenomenal feature!!! Great job CoachT!!!
  4. Coaches can in fact offer a scholarship any time... Mo Miller is a great player. 11 assists is likely padded a bit, but regaurdless, he is a great player and a great passer. No matter what his stats are, I guarantee he is one of the top 3 in the state in assists any class... No back to the topic at hand... AAA- After this past week which included a few upsets, I think you have to go with: -Jeremy Williams, Hamilton -Barry Stewart, Shelbyville -Mo Miller, RE These three are not only the three best players in AAA this year, but are also leading the teams with the top 3 seasons so far... Hamilton being undefeated is enough said. Shelbyville upsetting Brentwood Academy behind Stewart's 28 may have been his defininig moment. And after losing so many talented seniors, the fact that Miller has RE right back at 24-1 is a testament to his ability... AA- Again, the picture is begginning to become clearer: -Thad Young, Mitchell -Willie Kemp, Bolivar -Brandon Evans, Liberty Again, arguably the three top teams in AA are again all represented. All three have had phenomenal years. As much as I like Varnardo and Chism, Evans is looking like the better choice right now, leading a balanced team with over 19 ppg with their only two losses by a combined 5 points. I am not forgetting about Brown from McMinn, it's just that this year's AA race should and will be dominated by players west of Nashville... A- Right now it's Marquis Weddle, and then filling in the two runner's up... Weddle is the clear pick here to win the award. Potential finalists include Daren Currie (Middle College), Marq Murden (Middleton), Davis Eldridge (Grace), Rose or Smith (Humbolt), Williams (Culleoka), Blakely (Cosby), among others... D-II I think it's even safer to say that Wright is the winner here... I'll prob go with Bone as another finalist (there are so many fewer teams in D-II, so it's not unlikely to see teammates as finalists here)... Parton from Know Catholic, Price (Harding), Lee (Briarcrest), Thompson (Notre Dame), a few from Elliston Baptist, Gaines (MBA), among others are potential finalists for the third spot...
  5. Stanley Caldwell, who played for University of Tennessee was the previous record holder...
  6. Weddle is a great player, and one of the top 3 pure scorers in the state... He may not be the best player in the state, but there are not many better HS players right now than Weddle. His 41 point game in a win over Haywood shows that... And Weddle is obviously better than just Bethel. Weddle is a Mid Major D-1 or top notch D-II player who is going to have an outstanding college career...
  7. Stewart's top 3 are: -Austin Peay -Lipscomb -Chattanooga
  8. Congrats to 4 Midstate Ballerz seniors on their McDonald's All-American nominations... -Jarvis Varnardo, Haywood Co -Josh Mack, UHA, Hopkinsville, KY -Jeremy Jones, Trigg Co, Cadiz, KY -LaKeithric James, Starkville High, Starkville, MS
  9. Galilee... Please tell me you're joking!!! That's hilarious... Willie played for Pump 'n Run along with Young, so I ranked my guys behind both... Not giving Memphis credit?????? I get bashed for giving Memphis TOO much credit, so which is it??? No one gives Jarvis Jones or Terry Simmons, for example, as much credit as I do... Same with LaDarius Johnson last year... Wow, that post just had to make me laugh a little bit... As for Jarvis, he is a lot better than some of you are giving credit. Remeber, Jarvis does have a win over Kemp and Chism's Bolivar team this year, and can dominate a game defensively like no one else... Oh, and Shawne Williams was my number 1 player in the State in 04. I also had two other Memphis players top 10 in the state that year that no one else even had top 20 coming into their Sr seasons (Pigram and Ervin). In 03, I had Josh Peppers higher than any one else even thought about having him (top 3). In 02, I had Jeremy Hunt and Derrick Byars ahead of any player that played for me (both top 3). In 05 I had 3 Memphis players ranked among the very best. In 06, I had a Memphis player ahead of any of my players... So don't even think about saying I don't give Memphis credit...
  10. How has Tyner's Darrin Chandler been doing???
  11. Ha ha, I know... I've been mainly off the boards for a while... Thought I'd try to get back in to it again... My bro says hey as well...
  12. Though there are a number of good candidates in Class A, right now it's hard not to say that Union City's Marquis Weddle is a heavy Class A favorite... My three finalists would likely be: -Marquis Weddle, Union City -Davis Eldridge, Grace -Daren Currie, Middle College Humbolt, Middle College, Lake Co, and Middleton, four of the best teams in all of Class A, are so balanced, it's hard to pick one player from those four to stand out as a Mr. Basketball finalist... But with Middle College's win over Middleton, and his overall talent, I have to go with Middle College 6'7 wing Daren Currie as the third finalist in class A, as MC's leading scorer... In any case, Weddle's 41 point outburst in an upset win over Haywood firmly plants him as Class A's Mr. Basketball leader...
  13. AA Mr. Basketball is far and away not only the most heated race this year, but most talented as well. There are a high number of deserving names, and no Class will have as many deserving candidates left out... That being said, in a close race, I had to go with: -Thaddeus Young, Mitchell -Willie Kemp, Bolivar -Brandon Evans, Liberty Thaddeus is an obvious choice after winning the award last year. Mitchell is the most talented team in all of TN, and Young leads the way, with great numbers... Willie Kemp is another obvious pick for a finalists. Kemp is currently my choice to win the award, as he brings so much to the table in all facets of the game. Most of all, he is a leader... Brandon was my third pick for a couple of reasons. First off, he is on one of the Top 3 teams in the State in his class, sitting at 23-2, with both losses coming by a combined 5 points to the two time defending state champs. Even though he shares points with a host of other talented players, Evans is still putting up great numbers, and has the talented game to be a finalist... Close: Jarvis Varnardo is as talented as any player in the State not named Wright, but just misses out here. Though putting up very good numbers, and leading the State in Triple Doubles, Varnardo has to share his offensive output with so many other options, his scoring totals might not be enough to put him over the top. Nonetheless, no player in the State dominates the game defensively like he does, which puts him 4th on my list... Terry Simmons, who is leading the state in scoring at Oakhaven in Memphis, is a sleeper pick, and has turned around a team that won 4 games last year into a 16-6 team at the moment. His lack of exposure will keep him from being a finalist, much as Kingsbury's LaDarious Johnson was last year... Wayne Chism, though one of the Top 5 players in the State, misses out because he shares the limelight with Kemp. Chism falls into the same category as Shelbyville's Twilley... Beau Brown has a legitimate chance at being a finalist, as East Tn's best hope, for McMinn Central. A weak schedule should keep Brown from being a finalist, especially in a year with so many talented AA players... A trio of Juniors, Gerald Robinson of MLK, Tim Ware of BTW, and CJ Davis from Goodpasture are talented, but likely a year away, even in the wake of Davis' 42 point outburst, and Ware and Robinson's consistent 20 point efforts...
  14. In a heated AAA Mr. Basketball race, I have to go with: -Jeremy Williams, Hamilton -Barry Stewart, Shelbyville -Maurice Miller, Raleigh Egypt Williams is a High Major player, and the best player on the State's best team. Though he shares stats with Watkins, Hunter, Strong, and Gilchrist, among others, Williams is a no-brainer for one finalist spot... Stewart is also a no-brainer selection for me. He is a 23 ppg scorer on a team that has yet to lose to a TN team, currently at 24-2, and ranked as the #1 team in Middle TN. He also steps up in the biggest games, including 28 in a huge win over Brentwood Academy, and 41 over perrennial district champ Columbia. Twilley will take some votes too, but it is amazing what those two have done on a team with only two legitimate scoring threats... The third spot was a lot tougher. I had to go with Mo Miller, as he is a Willie Kemp-type presence on a team that is 24-1 and also has not lost in TN. Mo doesn't score alot, but for him to have this team arguably better than last year, after losing 4 key seniors (including UAB wing Lawrence Kinnard), Mo gets my nod for the third spot... Close: DeQuan Twilley just misses out here, mainly because it is nearly impossible for teammates to be selected (see last year with Richard and Reginald Delk)... Twilley is having a phenominal year as well. For more, see the rest of Stewart's paragraph... Jimmy Oden is also on the short list of possible finalists, with great numbers on a great team. But a crushing loss to LaVergne puts him a step behind Twilley. Nonetheless, Oden is having a great year and warrants serious consideration... I really don't see any other serious candidates in Class AAA. There are many other great players, but right now it's a 5 horse race
  15. Wow, those stats are ridiculous... Exaggerating stats is really a pet peave of mine as well...
  16. Union City's Marquis Weddle erupted for 40+ points for the second time in a week, this time coming in an upset win over a very talented Haywood Co team. Weddle hit Seven threes in getting to 41 points. A Mid Major D-1 school is going to be very pleased when they sign Quis, who is the favorite for Class A Mr. Basketball...
  17. Goodpasture Jr guard CJ Davis erupted for 42 points last night in a win over Lipscomb... Great performance by one of the top Juniors in the State...
  18. Quick comments from the past few posts: -I am very close to the Lexington program, and have been for three or four years now. This is why it is so frustrating that there is not more support, but rather disrupting comments... -Agree with the comment "stick together" -Mack would have signed D-1 somewhere else if he had not wanted to go to Martin -Bomar is a very good talent, and I am working on getting him into AAU this summer -Josh Frye is going to be very good. His time will come.
  19. ChattanoogaBall30... Thanks for the info. How tall is Dominique (and is his last name Harper or Taylor)??? And how good are those two kids??? Thanks in advance...
  20. West Tn hoops fans, I need any info on Greenfield's Reggie McHaney and West Carroll's Destin Skinner... What year are these two kids??? How tall, what position, etc... Thanks in advance...
  21. Now as to the original subject of this post: Reggie Bomar is a very good talent. If he were in Nashville or another bigger market, he would be much more of a common name. He is similar in a lot of ways to Antioch's Codye Hatcher, but with more perimeter skills. Reggie is not Wayne Chism, nor will he ever be. Simply put, he does not have near the same size and frame. Reggie has a chance at having a very good summer, which will go a long ways to determining what level he can play at. Oh, and Madden from Bolivar is a great athlete, but not a great basketball player. I was a bit dissapointed with his production vs. Mitchell, especially given his frame and athleticism. However, I heard he is a very good football prospect... And as for Gardner, anyone that judges this kid by the number of points he scores has absolutely no clue, as he makes his biggest contributions with his floor game, his passing skills, the way he runs a team, and his intangibles...
  22. It's hard for me to even read many of the posts on this topic and others closely related, especially from those in Lexington and around the hoops program there. It amazes me that with a fantastic PG and kid that Mack Gardner is, that he recieves as much unwarranted and ignorant flack on here. The same with Coach Gardner. There are not many coaches out there that care as much about their kids and attempt to help there kids succeed as much as Coach Gardner. In addition, he has built a winning program at a school without much of a winning tradition. It's just incredibly sad to sit here and read all of the completely ignorant posts, especially when this thread was supposed to be about whether or not Reggie Bomar is a Division 1 prospect. Those close to Lexington and Lexington HS hoops should support their program, not attempt to tear it down...
  23. What year is Dominique Taylor??? Also, what year and position is Chauncey Thompson from Notre Dame??? Thanks in advance...
  24. RandyMC, I haven't posted on here much, but I have to disagree with you on AAU (imagine that, huh). You bring up Polk and Smith- first off, Smith is going to be a high major player next fall as a freshman, and will be a very good college player. As for Polk, he was not just a great AAU player, he was also the best High School player in all of AAA that year (Mr. Basketball winner). He led his team that had no starter over 6'1 to the State Final Four in High School ball. Seems like he did pretty good in HS ball too. And of course his shortcomings had not to do with AAU, like you imply, but rather lack of academic standing and desire. I would say there are plenty of AAU players that seems to do just fine: LeBron James, Carmello Anthony, Amare Stoudamire, Dwight Howard, just to name a few I've seen live in AAU. And from TN, I'd say Shawne Williams, Corey Brewer, Jamont Gordon, Reginald Delk, Trey Pearson, Lee Humphrey, Brian Fisk, Frank Holmes, Anthony Mason Jr, Lawrence Kinnard, among tons of others who played AAU, seem to be doing just fine at the next level...
  25. How did Ken Bingham play for McNairy???
