  1. There are many things tearing up this years "team". Injuries are big factor. Then the fact that there are a lot of individuals instead of team. Then take the fans that have been telling these boys that they are awful and that there coaching staff is awful. This will make an already struggling team feel that there is no use. Stop complaining about the backs and start looking at the whole picture. Maybe your negativity is wearing on your son, which then flows down to the team.

When things go bad, the easiest thing to do is to start pointing fingers. The worst thing that we can do is to start a bunch of negativity. CherokeeFever01 was exactly right in saying that negativity wears on the kids which affects the team. Everyone needs to stay positive and hopefully we can end the season with 3 straight wins!

  2. With all due respect , the majority of people who have watched the State championship games in the last 10 years have thought the winners from the 4A & 5A games would have been very competitive matchups . I guess since Maryville Is not up to the standards they have set the last 10 yrs this year , It will be very easy for you to come back on here and say I told you so , as far as comparisons go . There have been several years here in East Tennessee where the second best team In 4A ( Central ) would have beat any team In 5A . Just my opinion of course .

Not trying to be disrespectful. Yes, I agree that the top teams in 4A were just as good as the top teams in 5A were. I'm talking from top to bottom, 5A was better. Kind of like college football, a lot of people consider the SEC the best conference even though each conference champion can field a team that could beat a many SEC teams. for example.....last year's sugar bowl when utah beat alabama. If McMinn could play Maryville's old schedule they could easily go 9-1 or 8-2 every year instead of fighting tooth and nail trying to make the playoffs in 5A.

  3. Mcminn's quarterback got hurt last week early in the first half and didn't finish the game. Will he be playing this week? Could that factor in to it being a closer game than people think. They have a talented young backup but has been a starting linebacker for most of the season and does not really know the offense well.

  4. Increasing top end speed is almost impossible. You can increase it a little but it is mostly genetic. What you can increase is your power. This is the first 10 yds to 20 yds of the sprint. Three ways to improve.

1.) Technique- start, stance, running form (need to work with someone who can demonstrate)

    2. Flexibility- This is something most people forget about. Partner stretch. A partner will help you stretch futher. To increase speed, you need to sprint often. To get better at something you have to practice at it. Sprint down hill to increase stride length and speed. Sprint uphill to increase power.

3.) Strength- Parallel Squats= Extremely important you get parallel, speed comes from your upper hamstring and glute. The last 2-3 inches of a squat works that area and is very important.

Lunges= Works on hamsting strength and flexibility

Straight Leg Dead Lifts= Hamsting Flexibility

    Anymore Questions?

  5. You went way out on a limb there. Red81, we need you here. You were the man at MCHS. We would probably be 3-1 if you were here.

I say McMinn will have a struggle because they just aren't up to par on offensive nor defense. I HOPE McMinn comes out on top here!

    Who is Red81?

  6. All you can ask of the players are to get out there and battle with all they got. Sometimes there are teams that are flat out better than you are. They are bigger, stronger, and faster. If the kids play as hard as they can, that's all you can ask of them. To win, you have to believe you can win. If everyone is negative, then that attitude will trickle down to the players. McMinn has made the playoffs for 11 straight years. Not many schools can claim that. If McMinn does not make it this year, life will go on. As long as the player fight till the end and not lay down then that is all you can ask.

  7. Central is a very improved football team this year. Like McMinn, they have a tough defense, but both struggle to put points on the board offensively. Central had a breakout game offensively Monday night but I wonder how they will bounce back with such a short week of practice. I believe it will be a low scoring game with the tribe on top by 14 points.

  8. I think that we will beat central by at least two touchdowns, at least. central has an quick backfield but our linebackers run a 4.5 and a 4.8 so i think we can handle them.

Mr. West, there's no way you run a 4.5 and no way Watkins runs a 4.8! Keep dreamin'! And if you keep dreamin' maybe dream up that you have a good football team. Central by 10!!!!!

  9. Has McMinn officially named who their new coaches are going to be? I heard that the defensive coordinator from Jeff. county was coming down but I haven't seen anything making it official. Are they having trouble trying to find coaches to fill vacancies?

  10. As far as central beating Tellico.... DOUBT IT!!!! You are talking an awful lot of trash to be from a team that is 1-20 in the last two years. You should be glad the school doesn't cut out the football program. They probably would if it were'nt for the girl's basketball team making enough money to fund them and the football team. Back to Tellico, they pretty much have a brand new coaching staff with Glenn Puryear, Brent Masingale, and Michael Kathey joining the staff. Those boys from Tellico have some things that you central boys don't have.... MEANESS AND A HEART THAT DON'T GIVE UP!!!!!! Call the Forest Rangers cause there is going to be Bear attacks in Englewood!

  11. Let's talk about juan smith. I think him and the new coach do get along. Juan is from cleveland and plays AAU basketball for Coach Aaron Green who coaches boys basketball at cleveland high school. As far as Juan not playing football, you could put a lot of the blame on coach Green. He is filling Juan full of crap. He tells him that he is Major Div. I in basketball. Juan is pushing it to be 6'1". What he don't realize is that there are 25,000 boys that are better than Juan that are 6'6" tall. He cannot play in the SEC at 6'1". Juan is full of himself and the team will be better off without him and his individualization.

  12. The new head coach is Glenn Puryear and no he has not backed out! Masingale is just an assistant. He played at mcminn county when Coach Puryear was an assistant coach there. I think they are just waiting for some paper work to be finalized before they make it official! Good Luck Bears!!!!
