  1. How many of the upcoming freshmen will, in your opinion, be ready to play significantly next year?

With a full offseason of working out, and praying the good Lord grows em a little, I'd say that 2, the QB (who could play a myriad of positions from QB, WR, OLB, to DB) and one of the linemen. I think he is physically more gifted than #79, who saw time this year as a freshman. His natural leverage, quick feet, and gifted athleticism for a boy his size, probably will invoke images of a young Kendrick, same motor too though. Another lineman is about as tough as a $2 steak, but I think will get stuck behind a player that will surprise many next year, #71, a current freshman. I'll be honest, I could see anywhere between 5-10 freshmen and sophomores playing big minutes next season for the Warriors, part of my reasoning of why I think this team will be so good during the 2015 season

  2. HA Man do I wish you were even close. There is a lot of really good talent around here a lot playing for rival schools. Man I do wish we were open zone, Im glad were not fooling you, take a look at our roster if you will before making foolish comments like that, not one of those kids lives outside Milan. It is incredible and speaks volumes about our program that you would say something like that. Thank you.

I find it slightly creepy that your roster lists addresses of its players...? Thats what I'm inferring from your "take a look at our roster" comment...

  3. Coachlogan, I understand that the MS QB was injured off and on during this season. Is that correct? And if so, how did that effect the match up with these other teams? Also, does there appear to be good talent around him?

I don't intend to steal Coach Logan's thunder, and he might disagree with my assessment, but my impression is that there is a considerable amount of athletic ability in the class one year ahead of the MS QB and the class one year behind him as well.

    Govolsknox,

With C. Smith, the MS football team's record was 5-2-1, with the losses coming to Fulton and Maryville, both top MS programs in the area, and the tie coming against a Bearden team who CAK had no business tying, as in, we should've won that game handily. His injuries, I think we deduced, were due to growing pains. He has grown around 4 inches since his 7th grade year and I don't know that he has totally gotten used to his body yet, ha. With that said, he's a special talent. A very rare talent. Its a sad reality, but if C. High was C. Smith's height, he would probably be receiving D1 offers.

    Warriors2011,

I can say that I've seen every class of football players since the inception of the program. I'm very much convinced that the class of 2016 will join the classes of 04, 10,11, and 12 as one of the best the program has ever had. They're that good. The current 7th grade class has some very good ballplayers in it too, but I think with the exception of a couple, the jury is still out on what they'll be like as a whole. A few legacy players in there that should be fun to watch. For those that know, we could be lining up a Howell, a Pegram, and a High at receiver next year, wouldn't that be slightly nostalgic? :flower: The real gem is that I believe that with 3 or 4 of the current freshmen, and 3 or 4 of the current 8th graders, we have the makings of another stout offensive and defensive lines. Boys that really do love the game.

  4. I will definitely defer to you on the evaluation of this years freshmen and the MS. Certainly not my area of expertise since I haven't been around those guys or been able to watch them play enough to have a good assessment. The State Title assertion is certainly a bold one, but I will be there to watch it if that happens (good Lord willing).

Like I said, if it doesn't come to fruition, hopefully no one will remember what I said! Now, I know that its Middle School football, but this year's freshmen handily beat every middle school team they faced as 8th graders except for Fulton but including Farragut, Powell, Bearden, and Grace. The only team that really handled them was... *gulp* Alcoa

  5. Your points are understood. Webb right now is struggling for depth which has never been such a big issues. Combining CAK/Webb would produce possibly the best team in the state. haha. But in all seriousness Catholic actually gets past this disadvantage of public schools through the Church where i believe they offer their scholarships. Although Catholic has been down as of late. I wish there weren't all these factors in high school sports because Webb for sure and Im sure CAK would love to play area schools. Webb has consistently beat knoxville schools for a decade now and my bets are these past two CAK teams would have done the same.

You might be my favorite Webb person I've ever talked to... Don't tell the kid who carried the sword your senior year though!

  6. Love your positive enthusiasm and evaluation :thumb: However, I don't believe that will translate into the results we are accustom to for next year. Thus, my reference to next year being a rebuilding year. I hope I am proven wrong. But with the schedule and graduation I see this upcoming year being tough.

No question, I was referring to the statement of "Compared to the classes we have seen come through CAK the past 3-4 years the upcoming classes have a ways to go to measure up". I think if you stick around a little while longer, I think you'll be right back to what you're accustomed to shortly! No one will read this post in a couple years, so I'll go ahead and go on record saying I think this freshman class will win a State Title when they're seniors, with the MS QB at the helm, and a lowly freshman named Howell catching balls :thumb: Hopefully our Alcoa brothers, and the McClurg twins over there, don't read this thread... :? haha

  7. Thank you sir. Webb did a lot for me which is why i still follow a lot of my friends and coaches and the program. You are right on. I was interested in attending CAK as well, but I wanted to play sports. So honestly that may be one of the major reasons Webb was chosen over CAK. So i see the point BUT i don't think its as big of a difference as you think. I guess Meske has given all his players the mentality that we are willing to play whoever no matter what. Hints scheduling Maryille, Alcoa, Ensworth, and any Knoxville school that will play us regardless of size or if the recruit or not (which Ensworth clearly does). I guess thats the difference in philosophy and thought process. So i understand, but im glad to see this series return, would have been a great past 4 years if it had never ended.

    Spartan4Life,

I greatly respect you and what you obviously have learned from the Webb program, both academically and athletically. I have to say, I've known some Webb football players and they were definitely not "recruited", judging by their athletic ability ha, players that were teammates of yours. Like Govolsknox has said, my biggest issue is that while we get junk about "not playing with what gets off the bus" like many claim to do, although teams like Milan and Kingston will not fool me (they're all open zoned just like Alcoa), we can only play with players that can afford $11,000 a year schooling, no easy task for many families in the area. If CAK were to join D2, I can not imagine the talent that would come to our school. Players like the Blances or John Inman from back when I played against Webb. I believe that everything that Webb does goes along with the D2 handbook, that no foul play is involved. I just think that D1 schools will never be on an even playing field with D2 schools, even if a team like a CAK or Alcoa could beat a team like Webb at any given time. Again though, respect to your alma mater, and your teams. I've generally seen at least 1 Webb game a year, and you generally crush who they put in front of you.

  8. Why are you not a fan of this series? This could turn into a great rivalry if the games were played every year. Every kid at Webb and every kid at CAK wants this game..bragging rights of dutchtown.

Not a fan, as a general rule, of D1 teams playing D2 teams. I'm not trying to stir a "such and such recruits" ideology, but I've never been a fan of teams that allow need based students to compete in athletics competing against those that don't. Having competed against Webb many years ago, I know that for every 10 students that were not need based there was 1 that was, but as a general rule, the 1 that was was always the best, or 1 of the best, players. I think the fact that the TSSAA now looks at overall record to allow teams into the playoffs even more accentuates my dislike for this game. Hey, I get the "rivalry" or whatever it would be. CAK has been very competitive over the past 10 years with Webb in every sport they've competed in whether its basketball, soccer, baseball, whatever. I just don't like playing in football. Respect what you've done. Lots of people have been knocking your state title this year and I've defended Webb. I'm just not a fan of this series.

  9. Still close with players and Coaches and its sounding like CAK will play us next year. Its a shame we havn't played every year. Could be like Alcoa/Maryville. I think Webb would have won 2009, 2010, CAK in 2011, and this years game would have been very close looking at the Alcoa game.

Not a fan of this series.

  10. I think everyone that knows the CAK boys saw a level of intensity against Alcoa, Milan, and Grace that wasn't necessarily there on many other occasions. I think this group knew they could "out-talent" many of the teams they faced. Case in point, many CAK fans would point to the Elizabethton game as maybe the worst offensive performance of the season and it yielded 44 points. I would agree with those who have said that Milan and Elizabethton would be a good matchup. The game would only last an hour though due to those run games!

  11. It depends on your perspective. Compared to the classes we have seen come through CAK the past 3-4 years the upcoming classes have a ways to go to measure up. Like GVK said, we have had some elite level players during this time period with a couple state and national record breakers, and a couple of D1 commitments. But every year I have been surprised how some of the kids have grown and developed. We'll see, but realistically it will be rebuilding year.

CAK's freshmen class is about as talented as they come. I wouldn't dare argue they have elite level D1 talent, but as a whole, should end up being one of the 2 or 3 best classes CAK has ever had, (edited to say the following) as long as the linemen grow the way I think they will. Add to them, 2 or 3 very good prospects for the line from the middle school this year. To top it all off, CAK hasn't had a player come up through the ranks like the MS QB since Charlie High and crew... We'll be just fine.

  12. wow hate to hear that. hope he will have a complete recovery! I think yall might be surprised by the defensive plan this week. Dont get me wrong Im sure you guys have seen every defense there is and not saying its going to work just that it might surprise you> amd I meaqn the fans not the coaches. Im sure they have prepared for everything. But basically best defense is long drives with POINTS!

Care to tell us more...? :D

  13. This is what I find MOST interesting about this matchup...

Somewhere between the State Title game last year and this week, I have no doubt that the coaches from Milan took a look at the tape from the finals last year and went back over it and tried to figure out what they would do differently. Look, I don't think anyone blames them for what happened last season. I think CAK played about as perfect of a game as they could've possibly played on both sides of the ball, and really came out and shellshocked the Bulldogs. The Milan staff had to feel good about their chances about getting back to the big game this year after returning so many players and had to realize that they would more than likely face a CAK team again that returned so much firepower. I guess what I am most interested in seeing in the game on Friday is what Coach Morris and the Milan staff have learned in a year's time. They've had a year to prepare for this game. I think CAK will have a VERY hard time stopping Coleman, and I honestly don't know that they can. That's more power on power. Schematically, I'm interested to see what the Milan coaches have come up with in a year's time.

I rewatched the CAK/Milan game last night and I think you make an excellent point that is not hit on very often. Outside of 2 errant throws, everything that could've gone right for CAK did (Wounded duck TD to Howell, Milan gameplan to throw early and often, fumbled kickoff, etc). I don't expect all those things to go in CAK's favor again this time around which makes it interesting. A heavy dose of Coleman is gonna be a long night for CAK, regardless of a W or an L.

  14. It was truely a pleasure to meet Coachlogan, just a super nice feller.

    Pujo,

What a great time that was getting to meet you and 91Landers. That really was a long time coming, and getting to talk about that night on the mountain was more enjoyable to me than the actual game, ha! Hopefully our paths will cross again sometime down the road.

  15. I remember back several years ago, every time Milan would play University School of Jackson, who passes 80% of the time, Morris would man up on the corners and blitz all night and was successful with it. Now, I do think this CAK team is ALOT better than those USJ teams, but I could see Morris blitzing backers from all directions and maybe some zone blitz to try and make the game alot tougher on CAK's QB. If Milan's corners hold up, the blitzing would almost take away the dual threat of Charlie High. This game is going to be interesting to say the least.... for some reason, I just think this is Milan's best chance in years to win a state championship.

Go back and watch the game from last season... this was the Milan approach. Charlie High set every TSSAA state championship game record there is a for a QB... in the first half.

  16. wE BEEN DOING IT ALL YEAR LONG. I GUESS NONE OF OUR COACHES AROUND HERE NOTICED THAT BUT FROM WHAT I'M HEARING CAK'S COACH SHOULD BE COACHING IN THE PRO'S BY NOW. GO CYCLONES!!!1

You seem to be getting a little testy... Just please take notice that it is non-CAK fans that are making these statements. The CAK players, coaches, and supporters all have the utmost respect for Coach Witten and the Elizabethton team. If you have made it this far, you're a good team, no question about it. I've never been to a game at Elizabethton but I hear it is a stellar environment, and seeing as how its the only game being played in the Eastern time zone, I'm hoping its going to be a packed house. What kind of number are the Elizabethton faithful expecting as it pertains to attendance?

  17. I update the game for coach Ters on my phone. So if you have a smart phone, it will be easy to locate one another

I may be relatively young but I still refuse to get rid of my little old flip phone... I'll be on the field, so if you're there during warmups, I'll spot you then. What I'm picturing as a bright red jacket shouldn't be too difficult to spot. I'll be the Samoan "feller" with a blue top, grey sweatpants, and white visor!

  18. As 91Lander said, I was already planning on being there . I've watched you guys a few times on the net and it is a treat to watch. I've always pulled for you guys since THAT NIGHT. Thats still the most heartbreaking loss I've ever had to deal with, But I've got alot of respect for you guys and the way you play the game.

It will be nice to meet you and if I wake up with a sweatervest, it will at least have a name on it I like. Thanks for the invite CoachLogan and I feel honored to watch sure such an offensive machine known as the CAKS.

Awesome! I can't wait to meet you and 91LANDERS! Hopefully the boys will put on a show Friday night, I'm confident they'll come to play. Hopefully I'll be able to find the Cloudland gear and KC Chiefs coat before the game, but I won't leave without meeting ya'll ha its been a long time coming.

  19. I would like to see this years version of the Cyclones. Are there any links to game footage from this year? I was curious if the girl kicker had graduated yet, but I hear she is still there for PAT's and FG's. My son, who played against Betsy in the past 2 games between these teams, didn't say much about her kicking but did mention several times that she is "hot". Oh well, even in competition guys will be guys. :D

If you go to YouTube and type in "Elizabethton Cyclones 2012" there are highlights from every game.

  20. Come to the CAK/Elizabethton game next friday night? Its been almost 10 years since you've seen CAK play and I would love it if you could come by Betsy and see what the program has turned into with your very own eyes. It would be a great honor for me if you could make that happen! Plus, I'd love to meet you after all these years!

  21. There are great linemen EVERYWHERE that get overlooked... I would encourage the boys not to take it personal. Trophies and awards will get broken, lost and forgotten. A great offensive line though is consisted of brothers who, I'm sure, have made great memories with each other for years. Encourage your boys to remember that.
