Fact check:I don't know what was said during the game ? The penalty yardage was something like 225 against Ensworth vs. 20 against BA; When you account that the white hat choose to chase down Bowers & confront him, it makes you wonder whether the crew had a bias vs. Ensworth.
The video clearly supports that Bowers was trying to step around the white hat. If the white hat said that Ensworth used profanity, I have to question that when you bring how inappropriately the white hat acted.
It won't matter because Bernard has deferred to the Board of Control, which is a Kangaroo Court filled with public school personnel, who may be biased ? If the Board of Control acquiesces to Ensworth, they will look weak to the public sector.
This is a BLACK EYE for TENNESSEE FOOTBALL & it makes us look bad compared to all other high school football across the nation. Common sense needs to take over here. What # 9 from BA did was wrong. The BA administration need to punish this player for his actions beyond what The TSSAA calls for. # 9 actions are unacceptable. When the game is over, the correct actions for officials are to run off the field; chasing down a coach & instigating a confrontation is wrong & unacceptable as well.
Bowers, Paul Wade, and his son need to be allowed to participate in the finals vs. MUS. It is the right the thing to do. That white hat needs to stick to umpiring baseball; clearly, he has throwing people out of the game down to a science. Too many officials these days think that people pay money to see them throw flags.
I am not a private or public school guy, I want what is right to be done. Those Ensworth football players need to have the opportunity to win the finals with all their personnel. It will be a travesty to let the report of a dubious referee dictate potential history for Tennessee high school football.
I don't fault Enswoth at all if they decide to go to civil court and embarrass that white hat, the TSSAA, and the Board of Control. DO THE RIGHT THING !
Barnett was reprimanded by the coaching staff and apologized to the player he hit.
Ensworth had 11 penalties for 105 yards, not 200+

Something tells me right or wrong that the Ensworth players may be motivated by this. There is still a lot of talent left on the sideline. Not sure any of this makes MUS task easier. The odds of Ensworth winning a state tittle may have increased. I have said this a million times ... Ricky asked the official a question in which he reacted aggressively. Ricky was trying to shake off a game where Ensworth was penalized for 205 yards.... 205 yards !!!!!! That's more than some teams gain offensively in a game. He was working his way over to shake Clay Whitehurst hand after the game. From across the field it looked like a bump but now that I know the details I am in his corner. I am sure it was a tough game to ref and I know the Ensworth coaching staff were working the officials.
Thankfully it didn't affect the game as it has in some other big state matchups ... It may motivate an already motivated Ensworth team
105 yards, for the record. Still an awful lot.

Good luck as you finish up your MBA and begin life in the "real world". I sincerely hope that you and your brother will be back on the Mic for ESBN next year. You guys brought some great insights to the games and made those times I couldn't be there in person enjoyable. Even with the occasional bad pun . . .
Thanks! I plan on being back next year if they'll have me, and I'm working with potential donors on a major video quality upgrade. Sorry for the puns...sometimes we can't help ourselves.

Playing at BA would be a great idea! MAybe you could do the play by play as well. I've listened to your broadcast and you do a great job. What is the seating capacity of BA? I haven't been in a while. Do you have a visitors side now?
Thanks for the kind words! We work hard to put together a quality production.
The seating capacity is the same as it's always been, although we have upgraded the bleachers. Unfortunately it isn't possible to add visiting bleachers, as the field backs up to a creek. Our facility looks brand new, but it is not any bigger.
I'll be rooting for the Lions this week!

Thanks, guys. I'll hang around and talk some Ensworth-MUS as the game approaches. I've been on this site since my prep days, so I'll definitely still linger this winter and spring.
-
Congratulations to Ensworth and MUS on their state title berths. I look forward to watching them clash and will root for a safe, exciting game.
After that, most of us will take a break until next season. I don't plan on posting much this offseason -- I'm finishing my MBA and will (hopefully) start a full-time job in the next several weeks. Thanks to all of you for the lively discussion this Fall. I hope all of you enjoy a safe and enjoyable offseason. Barring occasional discussion, I'll see you guys in late July!
Also, if anyone has any leads on marketing or PR opportunities, I'm in the market. Thanks!

I heard the guy who threw Ricky out was head of the committee to bring the NFL to Memphis and was just seeking revenge for losing out to Nashville years ago . Let's see how many crazy stories we can make up about this one ..trust me I was standing right there and it was an emotional game ... Ensworth was penalized for 205 yards ... That's more than any whitehaven team has ever been penalized ... Of course the coaches were upset ..the game had no rhythm at times because the whistle was blowing non stop
Small note: It was 105 yards. Your point still stands -- it was a mess out there. BA, meanwhile, had 2 penalties for 20 yards.

The Fox video shows the tail end of the confrontation, but it does not show the heart of why Bowers was ejected. Our video captures much more of the confrontation. The footage shows physical contact initiated by the ref but reciprocated by Bowers. While it is ultimately inconclusive, it suggests that the official was a hothead and Bowers did not respond well at all to his behavior.
-
100 percent.Ferby was a beast this game, clearing still battling that torn LCL. The sophomore QB stepped up huge might be a better passer than Settles. Anyone agree?
-
There was mutual physical contact in our video, initiated by the ref. Not violent, but pretty clear. Neither probably behaved in a manner they would typically endorse. You have to listen closely to the Fox video.
The ref says "you bumped me" or "you are bumping me"
Ricky says "I am trying to get through !"
The the ref does his best baseball style ejection (something I have never seen on a football field)
Where the ref is screwed here is the video. In most instances the TSSAA would take the word of the official and back them up.
I don't see any bumping. I think Ricky was trying to get past the ref who was in his face. Did he touch the ref ? Probably. But I would bet the ref was touching him too.
Disclaimer - I am not a Ricky or Ensworth fan.
This ref should be suspended.

Field was pretty torn up after tonight. Don't know what Coach Martin would be thinking at this point. Field conditions affect play. It was difficult at times for RB's to decisive cuts.
We have moved a playoff game to MBA in the past as they have a turf field. I would prefer we move it to Brentwood Academy (also has a turf field) down the street if it gets moved for field condition reasons. We agreed to let BA play in our stadium in Week 1 (2nd week of the season) while they were finishing renovations. They finished renovations on time and didn't need it. Maybe we call in the favor since BA got knocked out tonight by Ensworth.....or maybe we just slug it out in the mud!!!!
Tell me about the last TD pass tonight for Lewis Co. Radio made it sound like a Hail Mary. Was it better than the one from the Auburn / UGA game? ha!
Look forward to having Lewis Co up next weekend.
You guys were very accommodating to us, even though it ended up not being necessary. Best of luck in the semis, wherever you end up playing the game!

Gotca, Heard something in the video from bowers regarding that his player got shoved? Can you tell what he saids to the ref in the video because i can't tell.Congrats on a good season Brentwood.
It's our game video shot from up top, so the only words are my commentary. I have no idea what was said; I can tell you that the video from the Nashville Fox affiliate was shot a good two minutes after the exchange that drew the flag.
-
I know Ricky got ejected at the end of the game tonight. I was wondering what he did to get ejected? I saw where there was pushing and shoving with 2 seconds to go in the game and the refs called it . There is video that shows he got ejected just can't tell what he said to the ref.
I'm rewatching our game video right now. Bowers and the official both had their hands on each other, but it doesn't appear violent. Maybe something was said.
-
Away from the computer, but congrats to Ensworth for making championship plays. Big plays were the difference. Close, gritty, great game between two of the best teams in Tennessee.
-
More to come, but Ricky Bowers was ejected after the final whistle tonight. If it stands, he won't be on the sidelines in Cookeville.

There's one word for BA's early struggles -- youth. It's a sophomore- and junior-laden team that took some time to establish its identity. For the start of Tennessee high school football 2013, I really liked Brentwood Academy, especially after the first week slaughter of Memphis University 36-7. I was looking forward to Brentwood Academy matchup with St. X, OH. Then both teams lost game leading to matchup. In St. X, OH defense they were beaten by Collerein, OH, in Brentwood Academy's defense there was none. A 24-20 loss to Father Ryan, a game in which I felt all BA had to do was run the football from 20 yard line in late in the game. Instead, they chose to pass the football downs 1-4 when they were running the ball right down the field. Next, a big goose egg 23-0 to St. X, OH then BA lost their 3rd game in a row in which they gave hs football game away to MBA, squandering a big lead. BA had the football late in the game with the lead only needing 1 first down to secure the win. BA ran the ball for first down, ball carrier decided to try to break long run instead of securing football for victory when he was stripped of the ball. MBA went up the field and scored the winning touchdown. It looked like BA was through for the year 2013. 3 losses in a row. Who would have thought? Now, Memphis University is late in playoffs with 9-2 record and BA is 9-3. This BA football team had to be injured, something had to be wrong. Since these 3 losses in a row, BA has massed a good winning streak and is looking good again. My pick for 2 of TN's biggest high school games are BA over Ensworth; and TN 6A another team that I liked to start the season, Blackman a 9-3 loser to Oakland earlier this year. Anyway in the 6A contest, I pick Blackman to beat Oakland. I know that this website doesn't like mentioning other hs football sites, so I won't give you the name of the site, but these 2 TN hs football games aren't mentioned in their top 10 games of this week. I will have to follow these 2 interesting hs football games on the internet, and I have to also say that the hs football for TN has done well beyond expectations for the year 2013.

Great post! Hope your prediction comes true.

Ok, here's how I think BA-Ensworth will go:
The sloppy conditions will cause a sloppy game. BA's passing game will be out of rhythm early, but its physical defensive line will keep the Tigers in check in the first half. Ensworth will control the clock but fail to move the ball inside the 20. A key turnover deep inside BA's own territory will lead to an Ensworth score, but BA will drive the field late in the first half and put up points before halftime. At the break, the teams will be even at 7.
In the second half, BA will find its touch. Its no-huddle attack will wear down Ensworth's defense, which is talented but not very deep. The Eagles will score once in the third quarter, but Ensworth will tack on a field goal to make the score 14-10 heading into the final stanza. Another Ensworth field goal will get the Tigers within a point, but BA will march down the field one final time for the clinching score.
Prediction: Brentwood Academy 20, Ensworth 13

Really appalled no one is picking Ricky & Ensworth to pull out this one. I say 34-20 Ensworth in rainy classic.
Interesting pick. It's certainly foolish to count out Bowers and the Tigers. If BA wins, it'll be much tighter than last time.
If you told me the final score was going to be 34-20, I'd pick the Eagles. I don't think Ensworth can win a high-scoring game -- the Tigers need to play ball-control offense and can't throw the ball extremely effectively. If Ensworth wins, I'd put the score at something like 20-14.

Run coward run. Your stooges took the humiliation of being arrested and you quit. You are a gutless coward if you don't stand up and admit it was all you. The other coaches are spineless for not telling you where to go but they took their medicine
I hope you never get another chance. One question Was it worth it?
Have some class. Your ridicule isn't making anything better for anyone.

This is a feasible outcome if MUS plays a perfect game and MBA makes some mistakes.
I watched the MBA-McCallie game (and some others) and think if the rain is not too bad Friday MUS could hurt MBA with its passing game. That's a big "if." Rain also could "dampen" Wunderlich's effectiveness also.
I'd give you a downvote for that pun if I hadn't made so many bad ones myself on this very site.

I've lurked around this site for a while and never posted. We don't get a lot of E/M Tennessee info in Memphis and I always appreciate the posts about teams from regions other than west region.
I wish there was a way to be at both of these games on Friday night as I think both will be outstanding!
I'm an MUS supporter and will be in attendance at the MUS-MBA game and would really enjoy any "non-classified" information on MBA. Obviously Big Red have had a magnificent season to-date but any other info on players to watch, strengths of the team, etc. that would enhance the viewing pleasure on Friday night would be appreciated.
Here's hoping that both games are hard-fought, well-played, and most importantly injury-free on Friday night. Good luck to all 4 teams (maybe just a little more luck to the Owls....)
Glad you posted! Unless someone gives you quicker info than I can, I'll post a basic breakdown of the Big Red tomorrow. It should be a great game, and if you figure out a way to clone yourself Friday, please share the technology with me.
