  1. Watching this game online. Good game so far.
  2. Congrats to the Tribe. Great win and should propel you guys to finish out strong.
  3. Even playing down in 1A, about all you here about coming out of GC these days is girls Volleyball. We've got 4 state titles in football. How many are in your case? And Cap, I haven't seen one person from GC say they can compete with DB, so I have no idea where you got that. My comment was to et saying GC is an "average" program. To me that's saying DB is an "average" program. It's rediculous. You say we couldn't compete in 5A or 6A, well no chit sherlock we have 600 kids, you have 1900. Slight different there don't you think? As for basketball, we have beaten DB in basketball in the past. You brought an undefeated team to GC one night and got beat. You also lost in the Arby's a few years back. As for the South game, they won 41-14, not 49-7. I know the 44-16 thumping your team took back in '70 is still hard to digest, but let it go. At least South and GC had the guts to play each other. We play a 9 time state champion from West Virginia this Friday in GC. We may get beat by 60, but they sure as heck won't back down. I thought this thread was about DB and South, not GC. You better hope your boys are thinking about the Rebs, or it very well could be worse than 41-14. How bad would you feel if South beat you worse than they beat our putrid little SWVA school?
  4. I think you already know what the problem is.But you can ask Cap just to be sure, cause he has got all of DB's problems down to an art.PS Gate City can't drop down to any lower classes now. When they were playing up as you say, they were just an average team. Without a doubt, the dumbest thing I've ever read on here.
  5. This will be the first South/DB game I've missed in awhile. It was normally on our open week so I was able to go. Good luck to both teams. BTW.....when and where is the South/THS game?
  6. I'm glad you mentioned this. I was going to post the link and bring it to everyone's attention. As a GC Alum, I was proud of the kids of GCHS for everything they did. I haven't missed a home game in over 30 years, and couldn't tell you the last time we had prayer before a game before last Friday night. If this is all we ever get in trouble for in the future, then I'd say GCHS is in pretty good shape. I hope this person never attends another sporting event that I'm attending.
  7. Y'all come back anytime (just leave your team at the house next time..lol) . We had 5,000 for the Tazewell game last week, so it's always exciting there. Just listen for the bells and come join us. I was hoping the Logue family would be there. I'm thankful they got to see what the GC kids wanted to do for them.
  8. Great crowd and great atmosphere. You guys have a classy program and classy kids. Both teams were hitting, then smacking each other on the helmet or back afterwards. You rarely see that anymore. Great job last night. There had been word that the GC kids wanted to do something special to honor Jake and his family. They also had a "54" painted at the South entrance to the field. Great job by the young lady, and the GC parents for the balloon launch. It's amazing how 8,000 can be that quiet. Good luck to the Rebs the rest of the season. As I said in my post last night, I'll be pulling for you the rest of the year. I'd love to be at the DB game, but we've got a loaded Bluefield, WVA team coming into Legion. You guys whipped a good football team last night. We'll see you guys when the playoffs roll around. We play ours on Saturdays (if we're in), so I'll be at South for your games on Friday nights.
  9. You have another bandwagon jumper the remainder of the season. You guys have an awesome team and fan support. We just shot ourselves in the foot too much and too often. Good luck the rest of the season....this ole Blue Devil will be pulling for you.
  10. There's a lot at the funeral home (unless they're having services tonight), the Eastman Credit Union, and the main school parking lot. Also for a donation (couple of bucks), you can park down near Long John's in the doctors lot ( I think they still do that). It's a little bit of a walk from there though. There's a Thriftway Market and the Vocational school down the road from the Stadium. With the way things are going to be tonight, I advise to be there very early.
  11. Apparently my pc has diarrhea of message board posts. Sorry about the double postings.
  12. No biggie fellers. I've spent the majority of my life in Tennessee, and guess what? I HAVE been known in the past to have a mason jar with me. In all seriousness, I'm not much on smack talk. The majority of GC fans will give teams props for beating us. We hold the South program in high regard for what your coach has done with that program. I remember a couple of scrimmages with you guys several years ago. You're definitely NOT the same team you were back then. Our kids will play hard, as will South. If we get beat by 60, I'll be back afterwards tonight to congratulate them. If GC wins, I'll still be here to comment the Rebs. I plan to be on the field afterwards to wish the Rebs luck the rest of the year. I hope you folks enjoy your Legion Field experience. To me it's THE best high school football atmosphere in the world, just as I'm sure you guys feel the same way about Death Valley. Hopefully both teams will earn the respect of each other, and we both come out of this thing healthy. Good luck from Gate City

  14. Wow. If your boys were to show the same disrespect as you "adults", they could be eating those words. Thankfully, your kids have alot more respect than that. Good luck to South.

  16. I don't look for South to have 7 turnovers this week. We'll gladly take them though....lol
  17. The cannonball has been gone for a number of years now. There's that has attached train horns to a vehicle outside of the field near the fieldhouse. It's loud, but nothing like the cannonball was. GC's not very big at all, but they're not afraid to hit. I look for 2 good teams with tremendous heart to put on a great show for everyone Friday night.
  18. You must've talked to CL. He wasn't blowing smoke, all of that's true. The kids will definitely play hard. I look for a good game for awhile, but I think South will pull away.
  19. About half the senior class? That would be a whole total of 3 then, but none of those kids were holdbacks.
  20. Actually the majority was won in AA, but thanks for your input.
  21. The numbers thing is important when you have alot of guys playing both ways. That's one of my major concerns in this one. In the thread from last year when this game was mentioned, I said we didn't have a chance with what we were losing. Honestly, we appear to be better at every position. We lost alot of important guys last year, but we also have a good group that has stepped up. This will be an awesome experience for the kids, as well as those of us in the stands (and along the fence).
  22. I'd love to see them renew the series also. Our schedule's loaded the next couple of years though.
  23. Not touchy here at all. It's high school football, I just enjoy paying my $5 and watching the games. I'm just sick of this conversation everytime someone mentions GC/DB. There's no reason for DB to play GC and vice versa. They're 2 of the best programs in the area, and some people want the matchup without putting a good deal of thought into it. GC may get stomped next week, but the kids won't quit. It'll be a huge challenge, but don't sell these kids short. It'll only make GC better down the road, and South also as far as that goes. I look forward to the game, and look forward to shaking hands with the South kids afterwards.
