  1. Wilson Central 60 at Riverdale 47. Good road win to start the season. Way to go Lady Wildcats!!!
  2. It's not over yet, just switch your focus to NCAA women's basketball. Will be enough games on ESPN AND ESPN2 to last you for the next three weeks. Then get out and enjoy the nice spring weather. In summer when you need a basketball fix, watch the WNBA from May to September. Take a nice fall get away trip, come back refreshed and relaxed and get ready to tip off again. Mid November will be here before you know it.

    Next year

In AAA, Wilson Central and Mt. Juliet will both be very tough provided they avoid injuries. Mt Juliet returns their entire team and Wilson Central returns four starters. Shelbyville will be tough as always: they don't rebuild, they reload. Columbia, Brentwood and Clarksville NE will be very good as well.
  4. Apparently I am in the minority here, but to me the beauty of the girls game is that it is more fundamently sound than is boy's basketball. Girls teams are more creative offensively. They don't rely solely on dunk shots and three pointers. The reason shooting percentages are down in boys/men's basketball is because they take more off balance shots: therefore the dunk is a higher percentage shot than an off balance heave. The dunk is not a sure shot, and certainly wouldn't be for high school girls. A layup is a higher percentage shot for a player that doesn't possess great jumping ability. Even those that do possess great jumping ability miss dunk shots because they are more concerned with wowwing the crowd than they are simply making a shot and helping their team score. This is my honest opinion. Feel free to disagree.
  5. With Clarkrange winning the state championship, Friendship has now been eliminated the last three years by the eventual state champion. In 2002, they were eliminated by Ezell Harding 58-36 in the state quarterfinals. In 2003, they lost to Trenton Peabody 40-29 in the state quarterfinals. In 2004, they lost in the regionals to Clarkange 51-39. Friendship Christian faced a major rebuilding job this year after losing four starters off back to back state tournament teams. With their third coaching change in the last three years, plus losing all those starters , they did remarkably well. With eight of their top nine players returning next year, look for the Lady Commanders to be even better next year.
  6. Dunking the basketball is overrated. I would prefer to see players who are fundamentally sound and hit 90 % of their free throws in the clutch over a player who can dunk a basketball. There will be far more games decided at the free throw line than on a slam dunk.
  7. I would like to congratulate the Wilson Central Lady Wildcats on a truly memorable season. Winning the district , region and substate games in only their third year is truly an amazing accomplishment. I know that they will come back hungry next year as they have gotten a taste of what it is like to play in the state tournament. I am proud of you. Congratulations on a great season. Go Lady Wildcats!!!
  8. Congratulations to Greenville on advancing to the semifinals with a 56-42 win over Wilson Central. You can find the game statistics on State Championship Central on coacht.com.
  9. It is always hard to know how teams from different sections of the state will match up against one another, but if Wilson Central can match the intensity that they played with Saturday night they can play with anybody. Greenville sounds a lot like Mt Juliet to me with two big post players, plus girls who can light up it with three pointers and play good defense. Should be a great game, but I'm going to go with Wilson Central in a close one. GO LADY WILDCATS!!!
  10. Did anyone notice that the record of the home teams in the sectionals was 18-6? This is why it is very important to win your region. Only 6 of the 24 road teams won. Even though it is not an elimination game, it is hard to go to the gym of a very good team after a tough loss in the regional finals and pull out a win. Only a few teams were able to do it.
  11. Wilson Central vs Greeneville Thursday afternoon at 2:00 pm Winner plays Shelbyville vs Jackson North Side winner at 7;00 pm Friday
  12. Wilson Central did indeed advance, final score I believe was 53-35. The celebration was on and I forgot to check the scoreboard as I left. I can't say enough about how well these girls played tonight. They came out fired up and it was never close. Sara Willams and Lindsay Antone got a lot of open looks in the post in the first half and they converted. Also Tierney Jenkins came in and got some open looks in the post as well as some key rebounds. The guards played really well also. Kelly Gassie was all over the place, grabbing loose balls, making free throws, picking up rebounds. Jan Davidson also hit some clutch shots, made good passes and played good defense. Kellie O'Connell did a really good job of running the offense, making good passes and playing good defense. She may have made the best play of the night, stealing the inbound pass as the first quarter ended and converting the layup even if the referees didn't coumt it. Shequitta Dobson was huge coming off the bench running the offense and making key shots. Also good to see everyone get in the game at the end. It truly is a team game, and this team is the most unselfish group of girls that I have seen in quite some time. Way to go Coach Brandon and your coaching staff, good luck in the State. GO LADY WILDCATS!!!!
  13. Wilson Central vs Antioch. This is it, win one more game and go to the state tournament in Murfreesboro. Antioch is a very talented, well coached team, they are not afraid to shoot the ball. But so is Wilson Central. They have a lot of heart and they have won a lot of big games lately. AND they are at home for this game. I believe that Wilson Central will win this game and head to Murfreesboro with a long winning streak as the District 9-AAA and Region 5-AAA CHAMPIONS. GOOD LUCK LADY WILDCATS
  14. Wilson Central won 47-40 in the girls game, will play Saturday night at home against Antioch at 7 pm. Boys also won over Hendersonville 57-42, will be at home Monday night at 7 pm, but am not sure who they'll be playing,
  15. I thought that they determined who played who by blind draw. Is this for sure how they will be matched up?
