I was reading an earlier poll that ws posted concerning the top 2A teams in 03, and I was amazed that Mitchell was not mentioned. We are the defending state runner ups that return 16 starters with one of the top Jr. tailbacks in the state. I hope everybody keep taking us lightly, that will be our motivation. I promise you last year was no fluke. In the preseason games we tied Melrose and Whitehaven. We are a program that is here to stay.

As a HS AD I learned first hand the consequences. Two years ago we (Memphis Mitchell) had to forfeit 9 wins because of an ineligible player. There was a misprint on his transcript, but we understood and accepted our punishment from the TSSAA. We also handled the problem in house. The head coach and myself did community service. I agree that the adults should also be punished.

I will be the first to admit that football in Memphis is still behind most of the state. In the last few years we have made up some ground with Melrose winning two state championships, and 1 runner up, East and Rdgeway winning one, and my Mitchell Tigers with a runner up finish. Those four teams will be pretty strong again this year. Please give me some reasons why we can't close the gap quicker.
