  1. Neyland Stadium a tough place to wear anything but orange. People have been spit on there before for wearing Vandy black and gold.
  2. I don't think I have seen Alcoa ever run up the score. There schedule is based on student population, so they really have no choice in the matter entire matter. It has been very hard to get a full schedule in past years, including 5A teams like Heritage and Wm Blount who would not put them on their schedule. That has changed with Hammondtree at heritage. Will see about Wm Blount.
  3. Sorry Oldrebel2, but you are incorrect about the number suspended, and it was for four games. I may be wrong about the player who scored on the interception, I'll check on that.
  4. Maryville had 9 first team suspended for 4 games. Yes the went 0-4, but then 11-0. Alcoa won due to an interception by defensive back named Harris I believe. He picked of the pass and ran it back for a TD giving Alcoa the win.
  5. Webb's Mitchell is one of the best in the state. He did not come off the field Friday night against Maryville. Big, fast, tough and never gave up. The Webb game was a big test for the Rebels as well. I am not sure Alcoa was tested as much. But it's The Battle of Pistol Creek. Throw everything out the window and see what happens on the field. MHS wins but not decided until late in the game.
  6. Very tough game. But Webb was a very good test for Maryville. Alcoa has not been tested yet. But that doesn't usually matter as this is the Battle of Pistol Creek. Both teams are talented with new quarterbacks.
  7. Good win against Webb. Tough opener for both teams. Moving on to the Battle of Pistol Creek, Alcoa vs. Maryville . On paper a very tough game for both teams. But whatever the record, whatever the talent on either team, it all comes down to executing on the field of play. Tune in on FM 94.3 7:00 PM. Just a little note, Maryville High School is the only school in TSSAA history to have over 100 playoff wins. 103 to be exact.
  8. Maryville Athletic Director has already said it would like to move up to 6A. Enrollment places them in 5A. They had no choice in the 5A or 6A debate. A school will have to want to vacate the 6A classification for Maryville to move up. The question becomes, who wants to move out of 6A when you are guaranteed a post season game even if you finish the regular season 0-10. Very hard to like the new plan because of the automatic bids for the super 32.
  9. Maryville looks to play another tough oppoennt this week, Week 1. The Battle of Pistol Creek coming up with an expected crowd of 8,000 at Maryville. Is their a better rivalry out there than when Maryville and Alcoa play? Let me know and why.
  10. Congratulations to Webb School of Knoxville. With 8 players going both ways you showed what high school football is all about. One of the toughest players I have seen in 17 years of radio, Brant Mitchell of Webb School. Played the entire game both ways and I bet if you checked he also drove the bus from Knoxville to Maryville and back. Well thought out offensive and defensive scheme by Coach Meske and staff with absolutely no depth and only 35 dressed players against Maryville. Even in a loss, this Webb School team has some players.
