  1. Did Coacher Watson decide to retire?
  2. I just found the FSU sticker on the plate! If you hadn't mentioned it here, I probably wouldn't have found until I added my 2010 renewal sticker to the tag. I should call the law on ya, but I guess I'm a bit curious about that "women following me all over town thing". If it does work, I'm gonna be needing all the FSU stuff back, including the Seminole Parking plate off the Duece's door. Lord knows #1's Irish stuff has done me little good. By the way, #2 and #1 ran into three boys from Greeneville at the Nashville Schuman's combine... yes we spoke, but your hubby had to initiate it. I'm still upset like comp... /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  3. Geppetto, not sure yet about the boys 100M, 200M, or 400M yet in East Tennessee. The meets that have been ran up here are pretty much the early meets that don't match the best runners up. The times have been slow for the most part. As an example, D-B held a meet that they called the "Tri-Cities Championships" but only invited two other schools besides themselves... /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> I am most curious about the Boys 110M Hurdles throughout the state. What boys, specifically in AAA Public schools, are in the mid-15's or possibly the 14's for the 100MH? Geppetto, to answer your question specifically about East Tennessee, the only hurdler to fit into this time window, that I know of, is Seth Watterson of Sullivan South. The boys from D-B, Johnson City, Bristol, etc all seem to be 17 sec+.
  4. I am down with lunch. The more the merrier. Don't think I'll phrase it the same as you just did though. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
  5. There are opportunities afoot. Yell at me sometime comp. Maybe grab dinner at R's next to your office. Rather not go into that here.
  6. Rebels' Fans, the Pigskin Parents page is looking good with all preseason activities and games on the calendar. Nice job guys and gals! Looks like Elizabethton and Jefferson County for scrimmages.
  7. Back to the thread topic... "best in East Tn" If you include all of East TN, I think it may come down to Knox Catholic and Sullivan South in the newly created 5A. In the new 6A, DB is still tops of Northeast TN until they are knocked off their throne. In the same train of thought, in all of East TN, Maryville is tops of the new 6A, even with the jump up a level. (Alcoa may still give them their tightest game.) In Northeast TN... the D-B throne thing again... This may be the year for Science Hill, South or TN High to get over that hump. South better come to play Science Hill this year and don't assume the Toppers will want to loose three years in a row. Same for the Vikings. The South/TN High, South/SHHS, TN High/SHHS games may be toss ups this season. D-B is still a bit of an unknown. Common sense says they will be down, based on the performance of this class in JV and prior, but Coach C always seems to own all of I-81 going east.
  8. I think Mitchell from Science Hill was pretty elusive myself. Not just a "track guy". Against South the plays where he showed speed were misdirection plays where the D was overran things. He did make the most of the opportunities to turn on the jets. Maybe he seemed to be a "track guy", but I think he just has good football game speed. Yes, he will need to work on RB technique somewhat. As far as football guys on the track go, Mitchell would be behind Shepard of TN High and Watterson at South. Bobby at South probably next. CS from DB behind these guys. Mitchell won't leave SHHS. Just ask his dad, he's on the SHHS sideline in a Topper polo every Friday night. Good guy.
  9. comp, I am talking about this year's team, this year's QB and WR corp, in reference to your comment. I still think you're wrong. We'll see I guess. The long ball will still be there and QB1'09 will hit it. KK did make miraculous catches last year and was often covered pretty well too. It was KK's magic. This year, #1 will be open up the deep routes for QB1 and provide a larger window, the question will be, will he quit thinking so much and bring it in. Why will QB1 hit the deep route in '09? You said it yourself he will play the "whole game". He will pick the D apart with precision and identifying the mismatches then hit the the deep routes when they are open. He also has the heart of a lion and thinks like a Manning. I am talking about the '09 QB having an amazing ability to be the field general and team player that you need the QB1 to be. He will gather his team to him and they will be one. I was talking about the positive things South will gain this coming season. I wasn't talking about last year's qb, but you brought that up and started calling out his every weakness, and then turned and defended him from your comments. Hey if he still needs defending a year later, have at it. I'm not pointing out his weaknesses and I don't feel inclined to defend him either. His body of work stands for itself. It is what it was. I'm plugging the QB1 now, and not discussing QB'08 or QB'07, they've moved on to the college game. The only comment I had about last year was the "1 on 1 game of catch". Am I wrong there? No, and you cannot deny it. I'm not sure what you were watching but hows about giving KK some credit. I do give KK the credit for the long game as he could bring almost any prayer down and score. Don't want to hurt anyones feelings, but dang, give credit where credit is due, comp. ---> KK. I also never said Bradley thought he was better than Curt. I dont want anyone relating that comment to me. Your post is the first place I heard that. I seriously doubt he thought like that anyway. He cared about his team and his season. In fact, I never even heard that. I never said he "wasn't a rocket scientist" either. You can keep those comments as well or give 'em to someone else - not mine. I'll tell you another place you're wrong, my friend. The Spin Dr. was not the reason the Greeneville game was lost. Heck, he was THE reason South was there. I've seen every South RB from before J Wingfield to Oz, to the Spin Dr.. Oz was great at RB but better at def Back and Wingfield was a flash. I'll take the Dr. everytime. I think he's the best RB to put on the Columbia Blue and Grey. Period. Certainly the most crowd electrifying. Without the Dr. they would have never gotten the 4-peat. Had he been healthy his sophomore year (first game broken bone) and been given proper carries before the Maryville game his junior year (where he went over 100 yards by the way), he would have been the top in All-Time South RB stats as well. Without the Dr. they would have lost 3 or more games last year. Again, credit where credit is due. The Dr. never got the amount of praise and attention from colleges that he deserved either. The University of Charleston got a steal. If you don't want the title, I'll take it. You can call me the "Spin Doctor's #1 Fan".
  10. comp, I repectfully disagree. Not sure where you get that. Last year's passing game was really just a game of 1 on 1 catch. Don't misunderstand, they did what they did well last year. The '09 airforce will be more explosive and there's a renewed excitement at South. It will start with maybe the smartest field general QB South has had. He may not be Curt speedwise, but noone else in East TN has been, but I'd venture to say he's brilliant in running the O. He's smart and sees the whole field well. He's accurate and QB1 will use all his receivers. QB1 believes in his WR corp and they believe in him. He will find the WR that is open. I'd look for him to also check to the mismatches and will air it out, or look to the open crossing route from the back side. The passing game will be harder to cover in '09. Also, overall, the WR corp loses nothing speedwise or in quickness. '09 WR1 and WR2 will be a wash or faster this year. It is TBD who the WR3 and WR4 will be, but I have heard several names that would be solid and fast. It will be fun again this year.
  11. I think I'll hang with the husband. I wouldn't want to get in too good a shape.
  12. comp, I suspected that #15 was nursing a minor nagging injury. I just didn't want to overspeak, not knowing for sure. I just don't know what is involved with getting ready to depart for college football. Wasn't sure. I wish #15 would run the hurdles as well. There was no one there to push #1 and you know what happens.... a slow time. They will feed off each other. I would have liked to have seen KK and #1 run in the same heet of the 100M as well. No one pushed either of them in their heets and almost identical, and slow, times. Oh, and I agree about Track helping football. And who knows, track might just be a way for a kid to attend college /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> . As far as lil' Fletcher goes, I can see it. She'll pick up as the season goes on. Stretching...? Stretching seems to be a foreign word for us.
  13. crawdad, The meet was ok for a first meet. I can see good things already from the Hilton ran team. The only events I can really comment on are the sprints and sprint relays. The boys were tight in general. I was told by more than one that they felt slow and tight that day. It had gotten real cool as well as they began the meet. KK and Seth ran the 100m at almost an identical time, but both were off. Both seemed tight and slow. I was also a little scared to see Seth run so early in cool weather. He had pulled his leg a little at the NIKE in Cincy the weekend before. But, he was fine, just tight. I think it was high 11's. I'd expect to see at least 8 or 9 10ths dropped by end of the year. The 110M hurdles was the same, tight and slow. I think he was in the high 15s which will win in NET, but for state needs to be 14.8 or better. He should hit 14.9 or better by season end. The 4X100 and 4X200 actually looked pretty good I thought. Handoffs were decent already and South ran away from everyone. The sprint relays were: KK on the anchor, Columbo on leg three, Bradley on leg two, and Seth starting out of the blocks. The football boys are doing well with track, and will only improve as the season progresses. Bradley, as we know has already signed for the next four years with Tusculum and should do great. I also hope KK and Chuck get to play at the next level. They are a steal for some colleges out there. They can both play. I've seen allot of college games over the past year while attending on unofficial visits, and I can tell you KK and Chuck can play at the next level. You gotta market your talent, baby! Add about 25 lbs to Chuck and turn him into a mean OLB. Keep KK at WR and Safety. When Bobby returns to track, the sprint corp will get added depth and options. We need to make sure he's 100% for football primarily. We missed Fletcher at the meet. He may be focusing on preparing for college fooball this summer. Little Fletcher (Abbey - FR) is going to be a force in T&F before she graduates, and a force soon. For the record: The Sullivan County meet is at South on April 7th. The Rebel track team travels to Volunteer on Thursday April 9th.
  14. Comp, This class, while at CHMS, really never had to punt. 9-0 and first champion of the newly formed Region I. I think maybe Clint did a couple of times the entire year. They pretty much put it in for 2-pts every TD as well, so I can't remember a kicker either. May they tried once or twice to shake things up, but I cant recall. They never needed a punter or a kicker, so to answer your real question... no idea who will punt or kick for South this year. crawdad, the scheduled track meet at East was rained out. Rescheduled for Tuesday at East. Also a meet at South on Thursday.
  15. Sure. There's room. BUT you know I'm not the one to convince. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> We're hoping the turf at this facility, that NIKE has chosen, is better than the past locations. We'll see...
  16. Not a clue, comp. I've been in Memphis on business and get little real feedback. We'll see how they all are doin' today at East. I'm just hopin' no one gets shot by a sniper again, or at least its what it looked like last year as he pulled up in the 100M. ** Think Healthy Thoughts **
  17. Nice job getting these posted THSVikings2004. Thanks. Allot of people have been looking for these. May I ask where your finally found these? Are they official?
  18. Yes, it seems you are correct. After attempting to ask the question here, and after checking out TennesseeRunner, I certainly see that Tennessee High School track is all about distance and that "running around parks sport"...whats it called... oh, cross county. I don't get it. I'll take Usain Bolt, Edwin Moses, Jessie Owens, or Michael Johnson any day over Steve Prefontaine or Benard Lagat. Sprints are exciting and are some of the worlds greatest athletes. Distance makes me doze like Nascar....zzzzz. Just having fun boys.... Too bad, I'd really like to hear who the top returning hurdlers and sprinters are. I am especially interested in the 110MH for boys and the 100 dash for boys. Guess we'll have to wait and see... /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
  19. Who called who a Mo-ron to start off? We just prefer to discuss football and track here. Please go play band with someone who cares, again... little boy.
  20. No announcement on Spring practice yet, but if they do go while baseball is still borrowing our two QBs, then obviously they'll run a week or so with what they have - a non-QB taking the snaps. I'm sure there is a plan in place and I bet it doesn't involve an underclassman who doesn't know the offense nor has experienced the speed of varsity.
  21. My post had nothing to do with your inept ability to drive your mouse. Sorry you did not understand, little boy. My comment was intended to let you know that your invitation for all to view some DB band website had been denied. Thus, you have been blessed with the opportunity to look at it twice in our place. To further translate: we dont care about your band. Maybe try BandDirectorT.com... /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  22. Aaah, if you only had a twin sister! /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  23. Yep, Schuman's is $85. A bit much, but after NIKE, I'd guess it's the second most notable combine that a kid off the street can sign up for. Scout/UnderArmour is invite only and they take only 200 from each region. What Schumans also offers is the opportunity to perform 1 on 1. WR vs DB, etc. Wide Outs learn very quick that the 10 yard cushion / minor leauge stuff you see here in TN so often isn't the norm. At Schuman's if a WR hasnt been in the gym and isn't aggressive, he wont even get off the LOS to run a route. In-your-face press coverage. Schuman's also gives out allot of awards at the combine for the kids to use as "resume fodder", which is good. They do a good job of advertising their results to college coaches as well. It is indeed a good experience as comp said. For the record, Schuman's has been opened up this year to include current Juniors (rising seniors/class of 2010). PrepChamps is up and coming, with a better focus on what college coaches want to see vs. the college to nfl type combines. PrepChamps also uses top notch facilities w/ speed turf that is fast like that of DB and Greeneville. Nike...well, they dont seem to care if their facilities have indoor carpet. But, Nike is the current right-of-passage as comp states. The Nike Camp is the goal. PrepChamps does film all their combine for each kid and give them the DVD. They also, for Wide outs (not sure what other positions do), throw to them on various routes which is also filmed and put on the DVD. Per Coach Kitz, who runs PrepChamps, he has done extensive research with college coaches and the differences, such as route running on DVD, is something they want to see. The routes that are filmed can be added later to the kid's highlight DVD to give to college coaches. Given the fact that Coach Kitz has coached at such big time programs, is intrenched with notable people and top-notch facilities, and is Coach Skip Holtz's brother-in-law, I'm drinking the kool-ais he is serving. Just a matter of time before PrepChamps is up there w/ Nike and Schuman's. Nikebacksthefalcons, to answer your question, there are two South Rebels going to Schuman's in Nashville in April. Not sure of any others for ATL.
  24. Not the same location in Charlotte as last year comp, but just as bad. Actually, it was worse. I have no idea what NIKE is thinking when they schedule these dumps. They are hurting kids, not helping them when no one can even start. It was my observation that the more dynamic and explosive the kid, the worse they slid. Football cleats were usesless on this surface. Kids were sliding, not only at the start of the 40, but as they went down the field! Track shoes with no metal spikes would have been better, and some did use them. We will pack 'em from now on. We took four Rebels to Charlotte. Logue, Bobby, Watterson, and Zanoni. I felt Logue helped himself. Logue could play at the next level if he so chooses. He is benching 300+ but didn't nail the powerball form. It takes practice. Zanoni showed well, but did slip some as well. Bobby and Seth might as well have been on ice. They had good powerball throws and decent verticals. We (S.H. and I) did take Seth to a local turf field last night to fine tune a few things after sad excuse for a combine Nike put on in Charlotte. He and the Duece are heading to Nashville this weekend for PrepChamps combine. It's ran by Coach Kitz, who used to coach at Fla State and Notre Dame and is Coach Skip Holtz's (ECU) brother in law. It will be a great combine where they film everything, send it out to the colleges, and GIVE you the DVD, and it's at the D-1 facility in Franklin partially owned by Peyton Manning. Nice Speed Turf, like our friends in the city. For the record comp, on the speed turf last night in the cold, a very smooth 4.5 40 and a 4.3 shuttle.
