  1. First of all, Ice would stay frozen packed around GQ! Never heard, read about or observed any coach like that.

Secondly, my hat is off to one of the more classy opponents Maryville has ever played in the SC the past 15 years.  The coach made a call he will be criticized for probably the rest of his coaching career.  Guts, pure Guts.  Not one I would have made, especially with the 3rd ranked kicker in the country in my arsenal.  Not to mention an O with that many tools!  Great Team Ravenwood, hold your heads up.  You just played the best team you'll ever play in HS.

Thirdly, there are many great football programs in the US, but none in history have done what Maryville has done, the way they have done it, with class, composure, hard work, conditioning, belief in historical coaching methodologies and resolve.  Even Maryville reached deep to comeback from being that many points down in a playoff or SC game.

Lastly, my sons who played for Coaches GQ, JG & DE will be telling their grand kids they played for the greatest Tennessee High School Football Dynasty in history, bar none, period, end of discussion.

  2. Looks like Mr Football George Quarles has been out coached so far in the second half. Might just be that the 2 string QB for Oakland has settled and playing Oakland football!!!! Not bad for a team missing their leading tackler and starting QB and their kicker with a broken foot.

Out coached??? At this point he's 10 points up with less than 7 min to go and maryville knocks the ball out!

  3.

I sit here and count my blessings as Thanksgiving approaches, yet I'm heavy hearted as my thoughts and prayers go out to Ferguson, MO. My alma mater gets to play in the semi-finals of the Class 6A high school football play-offs and my brethren up north in Ferguson Missouri are having their very own 'Trezevant' moment for all of the world to witness.

The decision to NOT indict went through this country's court system, yet there are millions of Americans who think that a terrible injustice is being done ... and there reaction is just as sad as the decision to NOT indict. Chris Rock quoted W.E.B. DuBois when he tweeted "A system cannot fail those it was never meant to protect".

Somebody needs to tell those citizens that their reaction is 'wrong'. Somebody needs to tell those citizens that their reaction is 'unacceptable'. Somebody needs to tell those citizens that their 'is no place' for their reaction. Somebody needs to tell those citizens that 'no good will come from' their reaction.

That somebody isn't going to be me.

The whole situation is just sad. All I can do is pray for Ferguson. All I can do is pray for all involved. All I can do is pray for my country. I don't live in Ferguson so I'm far removed from the emotions that are attached to the citizens who are outraged. I'm not ashamed to say that I'm glad that I'm not there ... that I'm not personally experiencing those emotions ... that I'm far removed from the scene.

I'm going to try and drown out the noise and enjoy my team's game this Friday night. Tonight, however, my thoughts, prayers, mind will be on the citizens of Ferguson, Missouri.

I'm messing up on my posting here but, sir I came to the thread to read about the game. What is happening up there i agree is very sad. When people bring kids into the world and don't pour love, discipline, community and family into them you get broken hearts and destruction. There are many who will see this different than me and many who will agree with me. The rule of law must always be supported for a society to survive. I also pray for the innocent people effected by this unfortunate event. Now who's going to face Maryville in 8 days for the title?

  5. Robbed ya say...

Folks don't realize that we could have won that game in regulation after a big screen pass completion to Darius Sims had our QB, Pat Smith not had a brain fart... Then from there Maryville's Defense could have just STOPPED Whitehaven from scoring and could have STOPPED them from converting the 2 point conversion with that off tackle play... But they were Robbed...

The only one that brain farted was those officals.  They could'nt stand to see Maryville win another.  Watching that call honestly, Maryville did get ripped off.

  6. Why not play them and prove you're the best in Tennessee? Or take on a top notch out of state program and represent Tennessee. I think they would do well in both cases fwiw, but they refuse to do it.

Why? Maryville has nothing to prove except being the best on Friday nights and once a year on a Saturday. 95% of TN teams don't play the privates ether. Just because people with money send their kids to a private school and also supplement the cost of requiting some good players doesn’t mean the school would always beat Maryville. Past 16 years is proof enough Maryville has nothing to prove.

Some of you envious haters have nothing to do but hate on a program that has a high level of success every year because of quality coaching and old fashion hard work.  Winning a championship or at least getting to the state game is proof enough you’ve been the best.

  8. Save me some of what your drinking

Do your homework MHS has not faced a D team that is big, fast and talented as Oakland all year

    So dropping 45 won't happen

Sure I want a mid state team to win and IMO it would have been the Blaze . Sure OHS is playing lights out ball but it better hope it holds MHS to 14 PTS or less to win this game

Either way MHS will finally face a varsity squad and not the JV schedule type team

Really, that makes me sad knowing Maryville only has faced JV teams.  I'm hurt.  Bet SH never thought they were in that class.  News to us all.

I got thought for ya ND66.  This is playoff time.  Normal business for MHS this time of season just like Thanksgiving comes every year.  Can your team say that?  It's a new season so when those two Maryville Chartered busses roll into town you'll see a program that will be ready for the business at hand.  Check the records Sir and if you open your mind you too will become a believer like so many others.  No one can win them all but Maryville will win this one.

See ya Friday and happy thanksgiving we all still have a lot to be thankful for.

  9. Maryville again showed what many of us already know, MHS has the top program in the state.  SH should not feel bad as my favorite beat down of all time was when TN HIGH came to town around 2004 and brought lots of smack talk and a goofy smoky looking helmet thing to run through.  That was 46-ZIP that night as that front seven was every bit as good as this years front seven are.  Coach Ellis and Gaylor do a great job every year and we have seen athletes several times better, bigger and faster than McGue, who were also kept in check. Team game and Maryville is a team.

Besides the last two time MHS let someone else go to the state game from East TN, they got embarrassed.  So MHS would be a gate keeper.

Thanks for the game and good luck next year.  Go Reb's.

  10. I don't care who hurt who playing who isn't the bottom line science hill going to pick Maryville defense apart Brentwood academy coach said the only way to stop the toppers offense u have to control the ball and keep it away from mcgue and their many weapons Knox west a 5a school dropping down to 4a about beat Maryville in a scrimmage before the season started science hill dismantle Knox west i can't wait till around 9:30 Friday night to the shock of u maryvillians

Holy run on sentence Batman! So your thinking Maryville's scrimmage is somehow an indication of a weakness? And you think Brentwood's coaches opinion has some weight in this game.

Enjoy your trip to the game my friend because the ride home will seem longer as your team will learn, what so many upper East Tennessee teams, and several better than the Topplers have learned over the years their road and quest to the SC stops in Maryville!! That was my run on sentence.

  11. This should be Maryville's chance to have the starters see if they can go a full three quaters IMO. I can assure u the hill toppers haven't seen anything like Maryville this year. The BA thing means very little unless it was last week. MHS wins by getting points off turnovers and controlling field position.

  12. I think GQ only makes adjustments as the game progressess.  Seldom do I ever reconize The rebels changing any game plan.  Unless it is a game why change.

For my MHS fellow followers I see the USA Today fish wrap, has another contest going to find the best HS Football program in the country.  Go online at WWW.contest.usatodayhss.com to vote for the Rebels.  Maryville ofcourse is the best overall Program in the history of HS Football in the state but the contest is based upon votes.

  13. Maryville will have tough time till the game starts. It will be bizz as usual of course as it is stupid to over look anyone. Especially if one team beat the other during the regular season. SC will need not commit more than two turnovers or the game will be over at the half. GQ and company have a gain done a masterful job again by having the team peak at the right time of the year again.
