  1. Fulton should have played MHS during this past cycle. I don't know for sure about FHS next season my guess they will fall off, NO way they remain as good as these past two seasons. One thing I haven't seen mentioned about their success these last two years is that they have played about 80% seniors (starters) and very solid ones at that and in high school football you can be successful if you play lots of seniors and they are pretty good. A friend told me (whose close to program) that they have had like 9 or 10 players the last two years with FCS level (or better) offers. So although the mighty Blount Co faithful don't think there any good, the colleges seam to think they have good players..... Obviously MHS and AHS has been dominant for so long and FHS has had some good years too, majority of those years the first two mentioned teams have been better but NO question these last two years FHS could play with either.

  2. I won't air what I know on here....but don't let anything be a surprise. Your neighbor has my cell number, give me a call sometime.

Jake, my neighbor? I don't have a neighbor who even has ever watch a HS Game the past 40 years! You don't know me sir. I do wish WB and HHS better success in the future. It may take money but me thinks it will take more of a salesman than a coach. The schools need someone to get the student body to buy into supporting the program. Both schools have enough athletes that need to get on the field and out of the stands. That will take a salesman.

  3. I just can't understand how WB and really Heritage have been so bad for so long. Seeing Hammontree at HHS gave me hope the County teams would be more competitive. I don't know what it's going to take at those schools but I hope for the best every year. Good luck finding a quality coach this year Govman.

  4. Someone above said something to the effect of GQ and coaches won't be overlooking WV or any other opponent, and I agree. To overlook any team is not what successful teams do. Several times the past 16 years MHS has come out flat or the opponent was on their game and it was close. But as Maryville is arguably among the best coached HS programs in the country, they don't panic, hang their heads or get shook. The rebels stay with the game plan, execute and trust each other. That's coaching and a winning mindset developed by the many fine young men who over the years have worked their butts off and are committed. I have three sons who played for GQ and that experience has help to make them into the men they are today.

MHS Won't over look Walker Valley, nor should anyone. Maryville respects where respect is earned. Not the norm unfortunately in many communities today. Go Reb's!

  5. Maybe the past 3 years or so Fulton could maybe, but the past 15 years NO.

By the way Maryville shouldn't be clamored for like the other so called "Big Boys" did around knoxburg as they, Bearden, Farragut and oak ridge haven't been able to beat the Rebels since MHS got on their schedules. Be careful what ya wish for just for the sake for what you think might be.

  6. Well I would again like to thank the so-called "Big Boys" Farragut , Bearden and OR for another season of challenging football. Oh, I forgot oak ridge found away to avoid the Rebels this season. Best thing for Farragut this year by playing on Thursday, the equipment turn in can be on Friday. No need to take that smelly stuff home this weekend.

Congrats MHS on another record first half of the season. Now it's time to get to the second half of the season with a run to the SC.

  7. Hate to say it but Maryville's only challenge the rest of the regular season is staying injury free. Good time to build for the future, again but no one the rest of the way on Maryville's schedule could beat Maryville's JV. Sad in a way but like someone else said, I never get tired of watching the Rebs win.

  8. As I was leaving the game friday night I heard several Alcoa fans saying Rankin needs to be fired. When I heard that I couldn't believe it. How stupid would that be?  As a Maryville fan I see how much more physical and tougher Alcoa has been over the years. Even when Alcoa won state in 2004-05 Maryville was way more Physical and Tougher.

Maryville beat Alcoa pretty soundly this year because they are more talented. Alcoa doesn't have near the athletes they had in 2009-10. I still think Alcoa can win 3A. I think Maryville is a great team. A lot of years this Rebel team would be a shoo in for Cookeville but Blackman and Oakland are great teams also.

Agree firing Rankin over this thumping would be a mistake. People who understand football know Alcoa should not be able to beat a program like Maryville but once or twice in ten years. There is very little comparison between Alcoa and Maryville. Wins and championships is not a good measurement at all.

Rankin for GQ?? No way. GQ is twice the Head coach GR is. It's not even close. I would take Ellis or Jimmy Gaylor over GR without thinking twice about it.

  9. Well another year of this series is in the book.  Haven't seen a beat down like that in awhile.  Alcoa is far away from normal.  One thing that gets under my skin is excusses.

Rankin said. “We’ve got the kids fighting their (rears) off in 90-degree heat. And they’ve got kids going one way. It’s hard, boys. Anybody that thinks it’s not, come try it. …

“I’ve asked for this game later in the year many times, but our A.D. (Josh Stephens) hasn’t made it happen. Does the heat help Alcoa? When would you like to have it? I’d like for it to be snowing. That wouldn’t have a big effect on the game, but playing in this heat is brutal.â€

It is Rankin that also braggs about having 90 kids out for his teams.  Then why not develop a few kids or just give them a opportuinity to step up so he don't have to have kids play both ways?  Think the heat is only effecting his team?  Maybe conditioning, prep and hydration might work for his team, just saying.  Alcoa seemed not very well displined as compaired to other years.  Looked like a Reed team.

Playing Maryville Late in the year Coach?  You really want that??  Alcoa's best chance to even stay on the field with a GQ coached team is in the first game of the year. Late in the year Rankin will have the same kids going both ways and GQ will have another platoon of players developed and contributing.  Maryville would really issue a beat down toward the end of any season vs alcoa.

Then it is some how the officals fault.  I thought the crew did a good job.  Not the best but in no way did any of those calls effect the game.  Alcoa's 70 & 73 talked trash while getting shoved off the ball all night.  When your getting dominated keep your mouth shut is my thought.

I do think Alcoa has a bright spot at QB and that will help them down the road.  Good luck.

  10. Not much game discussion going on here but I'm excited to again to watch this game because of the community hype. Some of the usual suspects have again started talking about school size and how many will suit up. In the past when Alcoa was in a weak 2A the school was a ring mill. Now that's over with a few teams on thier schedule now. Alcoa May suit 100 but only about 25 will get serious playing time. Maryville player very few both ways.

I laugh everytime 99.1 says they will broadcast the "Game of The Week" between two of the Knox area marginal preformers. The Game every year about this time is the MHS vs AHS. I have however lost count how many more times maryville has won the game than has Alcoa.

This year will be average, Maryville by 21.

  11. Hey, All I got some catching up to get done. I'm looking forward to the season regardless of what Class the Rebels are placed in. I’d say those so called “Big Boys†are glad MHS won’t be in their way now to a SC.  I see the normal envious idiots are back trolling and hijacking the MHS threads and want to talk about everything else but the game at hand. I guess being the best, most accomplished Football program in the states history does draw continued jealously from the weak-minded!.  Yadda, Yadda, Yadda!

I think Web has some rebuilding to do as does Maryville seem to have every year.  Was talking to a friend and they graduated some good athletes last year.  I do however think the “Black Swarm†will be stiff enough to allow GQ to work the “O†into the normal peak time 5-6 games into the season.

Didn’t see too much up at Blankenship a couple of weeks ago, which is the only “Ship†OR will visit again this year.  I just saw too many cheap shots for my taste.  But the Rebels handled themselves in the normal classy fashion and I don’t think anyone got hurt.  If I were GQ I would scrimmage them next year.  But good luck to them and regards to the board.

  12. Hey All;

Been off the web for awhile but excited for another year of The best quality High School Football in the south. 5A? Why? Could it be the Rebels don't a have a Gold Ball for the 5A State title? Maybe the money of the so called "Big Boys" are tired of getting pounded by MHS?
