wc is playing about as good as anybody I have seen the last half. they are fast and have good team chemistry and have played riverdale once so they will be more prepared this game. I believe they will beat riverdale a team that is like an undfeated heavyweight champ that has won 11 rounds of a 15 round fight by 10 to 9 scores but is starting to get hit more in the later rounds. Right now riverdale is ahead on all the judges cards but has 4 rtough rounds to go. smyrna has lost 3 rounds and are trying to get their legs back for the last 4 last rounds last nights game (round) was a good start. Although riverdale is like michaels myers on halloween though you just cant seem to kill them off. yea and if wc was in your region they would have been region champs at home hosting lebanon not a 3 seed on the road beating a number 2 seed at home region 4 3 of 4 and only the 4 seed lost by 3

my view - my opinion cookeville started with and onside kick that got them 3 points smyrna scored 14 straight with bryson running the ball ( he is a going to be special not many freshman can say they ran for around 150 against brentwood academy and 178 against a good defensive cookeville team) cookeville had a bout a 60 yard run that got them in poisiton for a td right before the half and made ot 14 to 10 after that--- smyrnas defense dominated! cookeville went 7 straight 3 and outs for a net total of 4 yards and did not cross mid field but once the rest of the game and that was stopped with an interception in the end zone and returned 58 yards. cookevile double rod and on some plays cheated a safety over on him. They made the decision he will not beat us lets make somebody else do it. Jeremiah Bryson 178 yards on 20 carries ( 17.8 per carry) and 3 tds. the ref crew was the worst crew I have ever seen assigned to a play off game. I have not other way to describe it but they were just not a very professional crew. cookevilles locker room did get broken into and from everyone in Smyrna that has worked to make smyrna a class organization I apologize and when I heard it it made me sick. Smyrna hired about triple the number of officers for this game and I have been around here for years and I dont know of this ever happening. I hope the folks from cookeville know how sorry we are but if you get enough people together their will be some low life scum in that group somewhere. I take this personally I absolutely hate thiefs!! One last thing Smyrna on offense has to be patient and take the running game when it is there. Once we did that in the second half we took control. lets go to the pit!!!

Third is SPEED! It CAN be taught. Just ask ANY GOOD track coach. This also goes hand in hand with reason 2. I asked Ed Martin the famed TSU track coach and olympic coach what is the number one thing you can do to be fast his reply ------------------------------- make sure you are born to 2 really fast parents. he basically said there are a few tips training to help fast people get faster but you are either fast or you aren't I do agree you can make players quicker to the ball or quicker off blocks etc but as coach martin said they are either fast or they aren't.

not all those kick were the kickers fault some were low snaps etc our kickers were booming them yesterday and if we need a 42 yard fg I have complete confidence in our kicker.

Most major colleges have a grid for every position on the field noting the size speed etc for each one. Unless you meet those parameters you will not even get a look at a major college. perfect example lineman a is 6 ft 5 300 pounds lineman b is 6 ft 255 lineman b can block lineman a all over the field when it comes schoarship time lineman a will be offered by someone in a major college lineman b will be not. you can run the same scenario at every position on the field.

riverdale was better a couple weeks ago so hard to argue against that. we will know in december who was better at the end of the year.

wc has that chemistry thing going and that is important. When they played smyrna even though they lost you could just feel the chemistry among the players and the confidence. Also by seeing the number of seniors they lose off a very small team numbers wise i thinl they know this may be their best chance for a while. My prediction is wc will beat cc and then go to riverdale and win their also just like smyrna did last year. and who knows if smyrna takes care of business we could do it again

I think all this talk of how great cookeville is has been the best thing that could have happened to Smyrna. I watched the most intense inside defensive drills in practice this week I have seen in years. They have received the message loud and clear that Cookeville is going to run it down their throats. I haven't seen that much enthusiasm in practice in a while It was physical. On offense all this talk about a 2 man show has also left its mark. Cookeville may add some new stuff all teams in the playoffs add a wrinkle or 2 well lets just say for Smyrna Rod may be in a few places he hasn't been seen before. We heard the same thing every year when cc comes to town. As I said Oakland should not hire Flatt. His basic 5 man front will work when you have stud lineman playing one way.In the public sector you will be lucky to have one and 2 is a luxury. Smyrna has a lb that is a soph and maybe 5 ft 5 140 pounds I can guarantee you Flatt has never had to work a defensive scheme with that type talent ( not picking on our lb he plays as hard as anybody). While Flatt is gone we did play BA this year and the thing that struck me was not their good athletes and they do have them but the fact that on offense and defense everyone plays one way and the most important part is they dont have a "bad" player on the field at any position. There is not a player on the field you can look at an go wow we can take advantage of that. While everybody in our region has some good players we all have had at some point those 180 pound lineman or 150 pound lbs on the field. Seems like Scharsh is what I keep hearing Oakland wants? A young coach with experience Would he fit. The Patterson coach at SMS is a very good coach and I think he would fit perfect at Oakland. He is very laid back and spends numerous hours with those kids off the field. I think after Ferguson who I hear was pretty intense he may be just what you need. I think all that us against the world stuff and and this is bigger than football it is about life is all good and has its place but in my opinion I think Oakland needs to get back to its a football game lets go play it. I may be wrong but I just sensed all year Oakland playing like they were under pressure.

I understand you not wanting to see Smyrna again I felt the same way about Lavergne. However there is a decent chance we will meet again if you guys get past wc in the second round. wc is really playing well and I like our second round possibilities better than yours. (lebanon or lc) but ---- none of that matters right now its all about smyrna vs cookeville.

COOKEVILLE TO QUOTE ABOVE: very well coached does not make mistakes always ready to play runs the ball very well smyrna will have a tough time stopping our rushing attack couple questions 1. with all that how did you ever lose a game? 2. why do your region standings show cookeville in 3rd not 1st? 3. do you thin cc and lc will both win the state championship they must be unbelieveable TO QUOTE ABOVE ABOUT SMYRNA: 2 man show makes mistakes under heavy pressure My gosh I have never heard so much about a 3rd place region 3 team in my life. Smyrna plays in the toughest region in the state and is 3 plays and 11 points away from being undefeated with 2 of those losses being against brentwood academy and riverdale by a total of 7 points. Smyrna you will see is not a 2 man show and has athletes all over the field. Wilkes just happens to be head and shoulders above the rest and as I said you would be foolish to not get him the ball as often as possible. Talk about no respect

alcoa has winning football but I hear is not all that the Rankins thought it would be. probably a long shot but as I said remember where you heard it 1st. I dont think oakland want Flatt. he runs a basic d and a basic o and wins with his players being better than everyone else's and that will not be the case in the public school sector especially region 4.

Hagar #8 and Martin #9 have had their best games of the year the past several weeks especially Hagar who has become sonny's go to receiver when rod is not there and Martin has become the best possesion receiver we have. As for special teams we struggle with extra points and are ok at fgs. we are excellent at punting the ball and most kickoffs have been in the end zone however- we are outstanding on returns of punts and kicks and due to that usually get great field position when teams try to kick away or short. If you try to kick it in the end zone you better make it! the wild card is our tb bryson he is a freshman that has had an excellent year with around 800 yards but has yet to have that break out game that he is capable of. It would be a great time to do it friday since now that we are in the playoffs he is no longer a freshman.

I still believe blackman does not have any true qb in the wings and will continue the west virginia type offense based on spreading the field and getting speed backs in the backfield. I think the coaches at Blackman recognize their talent and are close to having enough to run that scheme and with it you really dont need a true qb and won't as long as they run that system. next year for blackman is the year where "young" can no longer be used you cant be young for 4 years and next year will be year 4.

Lebanon was last year, and they were a 4 seed lc was a 1 and still lc barely hung on. Doesn't take a lot of offense to win that region. Times change and good coaches all have schemes they are comfortable with but most adapt as the talent around them changes.

Thats what I was told by a parent ifrom cookeville that I know. well good if they lost to lc with their tb then that says a lot.

I think coach brown is a great coach. If it hadn't been for his play calling and decision making against smyrna not only would lebanon not have won but they would have been smoked. he recognized that lebanon could not stop smyrna that night and just decide he would pull out every trick in his book to keep the ball and it worked. Remeber he went for it on 4th and like 11 from his own 20 to start the second half and without getting that 1st down on a fake punt smyrna would have got it and scored again (smyrna scored 28 point on 6 possesions) I think he is an outstanding coach and you better be ready for anything. I know coach Thompson knows more football than I could ever imagine but I dont see a lot of imagination in his offense. A lot of teams and coaches change things as personell change but he just seems to run what he runs year in and year out. IS that a fair statement or am I off base?

I really hope it is packed and loud. every hs player should get a chance to play at the pit with it full and loud. smyrna played there when lc was undefeated and it was great and was even louder the next game for riverdale. the next time smyrna came back even though lc won the region and was 7-3 there was nobody there and it was empty with no enthusiasm. Once again lc fans you have been called out show up be loud and give these hs players a great atmosphere for a huge game. right now I see it lebanon 24 lc 7
