  1. So you guys SHOULD beat Alcoa because you have a larger student base and a larger talent pool. You guys have twice as many students as Alcoa.
  2. Let's be honest the street goes both ways. I do remember the South fans cheering and players jumping around in '06 as Josef Throp laid on the turf. Or eating at Motos in ColHgts. and seeing a "GIRL" wearing a shirt that read "DB sucks and Throp swallows". Or eating at the ColHgts. McDs while with a DB sweatshirt on and having a "lady" talking to her husband saying something about a person wearing a DB sweatshirt in a Colhgts. McDs. Would you say those scream CLASS? To me those are a lot more classless than Waco getting on CoachT and giving everybody the business. So don't get all warm and fuzzy because it is still DB-South. My post wasn't meant to build a case for the South fans, it was an indictment on the DB schedule as it stands. It is an indictment on the TSSAA for this ridiculous re-alignment they have forced on the state resulting in playing in a terrible conference year-in and year-out. Let's be real, even if this conference is up (which it is not) with DB, Science Hill, THS, SS being good it can't compare to District 2 or 4.
  3. Obviously, you missed the '06 DB-South game
  4. Good luck to the Dragons from here on out. I hope you can get this season turned around and the ship righted. But with all due respect to the Clinton Dragon program, this game does nothing for DB and needs to be dropped. They brought very few fans (maybe 50) and thus very little cash was donated to the Fred. And the competition was such that the starters did not get to play even half the game and the continuous clock made it difficult for the 2s and 3s to get significant time to really work. The Dragon D didn't put up enough fight for the DB O to have any sustained drives. Do we really think this team will be able to jump into conference play or the playoffs and have 3 TDs after only 3 touches of the ball? After 2 games I'm not sure anyone really knows where the team is. Needless to say I am disappointed with this game being on the schedule. Would it not have been a better option to pick up North? or Gate City? or Greeneville? Those would have taken care of the gate (known as $$$) and any of those would have been a stiffer test. And it would have also saved on travel cost which is the reason why this situation was forced upon them. Greeneville picked up Alcoa...Science Hill picked up Greeneville. If someone in the know can tell me how DB can't pick up a game like that then by all means enlighten me. And let's be honest...the Big 8 is not looking very tough this season as we have seen from the success out of the league so far (3-8) with 2 of those wins not being too strong (DB over Clinton and THS over Johnson County).
  5. Bud How many wins will Clinton have? Would you consider them a "good out-of-area" team? Did you witness that mess last night? Yes the DB boys had a lot to do with the Dragons demise, but that was a terrible team. I would find it hard to imagine that Enka was worse than Clinton. I would say Clinton will be hard pressed to even make the 5 wins you claim Enka will have. DB HAS (as in in the past) played MBA, Oak Ridge, etc....but they wont have anything close to those listed during this regular season. And that game did NOTHING to prepare them for the rest of the year other than make all the parents of the 5th stringer happy and keep them involved in all the fundraisers they will be req'd to take part in. Add to that the fact that Clinton brought no fans along with no competition. Sullivan North or Gate City would have been the better option. The gate (called cash) would have been tremendous and the competition would have been better. And it would cut down on travel cost which is supposedly why this whole re-alignment fiasco happened in the first place. Please, if you are going to represent the DB fan base at least do it with your facts straight.
  6. There is only one press box and since this game was at DB, the head of officials HAD TO BE in OUR press box, as was some of your coaches, etc I'm sure. He was in attendance as I understand to evaluate, as this was one of 4 games across the state to test the 6 man officiating crew that the TSSAA wants to begin using. Obviously this was a debacle and I'm hoping the TSSAA puts this idea in the trash...but seeing as they have turned high school football in TN into high school footall in Va. with the new mixed up realignment garbage, they wont do what is in the best interest of the game. This one was ugly and the officials had no control. Unfortunately, this could result in 2 of DB's best players being lost for the season...initial reports are not good for Conley and Fleming. Not to mention the inadvertant whistle. I would have to disagree about the missed holding calls, holding can be called every play and they called a ton. Be specific please on "Countless missed holding calls and blocks in the back by DB and not to mention all the uncalled unsportsman like". I can give several specific instances from being at the game as well that would say there was just as much from our end that wasn't called. None of the calls you are crying about took away TDs (like we had) or resulted in players being lost for the year (which we may have). I think you were complaining about refs on the JC/MoEast board after that game as well but if I were a JC fan, I wouldn't be worried about the refs every game and be curious why the coach was trying to throw the ball so much instead of giving it to Brooks who was getting pretty good yards early on and force DB to stop you at your strength. That was working and it was obvious as the game went along that the passing game was not working. The QB was gashing DB late as well running the ball. That's what I'd be curious about.
  7. Not sure about TV but the QB club will replay the game tonight at 6:30 in the field house.
  8. Oh Monica don't flatter yourself...a vault is too nice for your posts...it's more like a port-o-john. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  9. It is "sell" tickets. I'm afraid when they annex your neigborhood the IQ in Kingsport is going to drop significantly. You are such an easy target.
  10. Now, now Monica watch that language...you said you "missed" arguing with me and now you are telling me to go away! Is that any way to treat a neighbor? /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" /> Admit it...you were secretly glad I was gone because I have called you to the carpet so much you can't handle the truth! Now you are trying to turn the tables so your trash doesn't stink so bad...sorry it just isn't true. I never said Phillips was not all he was "cracked up to be"...I have a problem with "greatest ever" tag and stated just that. But if you can stack that beside your manure pile and come up equal then have at it...whatever makes you sleep at night. Hey the one time I went overboard on you and called out your parenting skills that were unfitting of me as a parent myself, I admitted it on here and I'm satisfied. See, I don't need coacht or Volman to remind me of what I type...I can think for myself. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  11. There is no both sides of the mouth. Have I taken you and some others on here to task? Somebody has to put you in your place. Can't recall naming any kids on here and knocking on them. Again, since you are doing the accusing, refresh my memory on both sides of my mouth. I'm not afraid of what you'll make-up. And by the way, stop calling me neighbor...I LIKE my neighbors. By the way, drop on in sometime and we'll have a talk /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> FYI: I never said anything about what you could or couldn't say only that a bunch of 30-40 + year old men should be ashamed hiding on here and calling out coaches (tell them to there face) jobs and high school kids. Man up!
  12. There's no mystery there buddy....ask coacht becuase I guess since I had better things to do with my time over the past few months than set behind a keyboard and drool over high school kids in 7on7 and scrimmages, my history was deleted. email coacth maybe they still have the records...no sweat off my back. Several jabs? I never once jabbed at Curt. I can say that with honesty. If you have such a great memory there monica, give me an idea of the jabs I supposedly took. You are just trying to justify your trashing of Josef and others. You're laughable (among other things).
  13. Based on your thinking, I should count out Shepard and Canty based on being absolutely ineffective for 4 qtrs. I know better.
  14. Before you go throwing clown around, show me one post about ME pumping Chris. The THS fans were tooting the Shepard horn guite a bit (you included....remember you know the rest of the story /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />) as well and I went in with great expectations and that hasn't changed becuase I could see his potential each time he touched the ball..the DB game will not be his legacy by a long shot. And as far as pub...they are all Tricitiessports cover boys...I frankly have not seen anymore about Chris than Fletcher or Shepard. They all have had more pub than Sylvester who did what he wanted to last Thursday. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  15. Not a rumor....sad but true. I'm not here to bash a kid because it is very sad and unfortunate that some kids (at all schools) take a path of no gain when they have the world by the tail. I find it interesting that some will get on here and talk about the "inherent" problems inside DB and Science Hill, yet all's quiet on the Western front when it is inside there own walls. I have been reading the early season banter without a desire to get caught up in the fray, but when I heard about this incident, I was reminded that some had made it there crusade to jump on here and discuss that city schools were eat up with this problem and now it has come home to roost. I purposely have refrained from posting because I have read so many attacks on coaches and there livelihoods, trashing 15-18 year old kids, and tearing down communities all in the name of "insert school name here". Sad that some attach there status to the backs of a group of kids. Instead of taking pride in the coaches and players and history this area has, we hide behind a keyboard and blast coach G and H and ultimately affect a man's livelihood all in the name of my little Johnnie and Jimmy (and even little Jane), or talk about 15-18 year old kids like they're pieces of trash on the bottom of our feet, forgetting that these are somebody's children just like our own (think of the feedback if somebody was to talk about #15 for SS the same as #32 has been talked about). From everyone I have talked to, both Taylor Fletcher and Chris Sensabaugh are as good of kids as you could meet, maybe we as parents could take a little something from them. I think it's sad that adults feel the need to jump on here and talk about other people's kids but "by golly they better not mention our boys". The stuff I read on here from ALL sides is pretty pathetic when I think adults are debating one KID over another KID! What we should be debating is Xs and Os and thinking about how blessed we are to have the men of integrity that we have in charge of our children. I have yet to read much of that...mostly trash. Don't get me wrong, it's one thing to get on here and poke a little fun (I do the same with my Rebel co-worker), but too often it goes far deeper than just a little back and forth and the results are an inherent hatred for other kids over nothing more than the jersey they wear. Sadly, that is where we are as a society across the board and I fear something like what happened at Knox Central last week may occur between "fan"atics of area schools. Looking back at how a SS/SHHS thread spiraled down into the same old tired arguments, it smacks pretty shallow of "grown-ups". Just my thoughts. /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />
  16. DUDE! etfan stated "last 5 years" and top 5 "recent" programs! It's called reading...the mind is a terrible thing to waste. And college polls definately do take into consideration previous years...why was Tennessee ranked #3 preseason in '05? Because of the previous Cotton Bowl thrashing of Texas A&M. Although that didn't guarantee squat because they went out and flushed the season down the potty. Just like 7-6 in '05 didn't guarantee anything other than a lot hype for '06 and pumped egos that got popped before people had a chance to finish there popcorn. HEY! Maybe Mike Hamilton could use the strategy of crying about not being able to get tickets for the UT fans last year in Gainesville as an excuse to drop Florida from the schedule and then Fulmer can claim they would have won this years game and Tricitiessports can crown them SEC champs! OK then, if we are ranking based on the upcoming potential alone I would still bump DB up. I believe they will be better than last year (even if South took the "best" players /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />) and South wasn't beating DB even during this great 3 year run. Hey but maybe you guys are on to something over there. Since you can't beat DB by building with the players that come through that great county feeder system over there, take the "best" kids that have gone through the awful city Boys Club system (that stinks and of which there is no comparison by the way) and use those to beat DB...if you can't beat em then claim you would beat em with there own players /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  17. Hmm..interesting. Not sure how you claim DB as the 4th best program in the area /ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" /> They have beat your #3 head to head each time they have played over that 5 years and other than the 7-6 in '05 they haven't even been within 4 TDs, inlcuding 2 wins over Phillips. And while I agree that Hampton is a great story they have not played for a title anymore than the other teams (after all you are penalizing DB for playoff performance in the '06 WB game). And while they have had a great run the last 3 years, they were 4-7 and 5-5 the previous 2 years...and they may fear no one, the Coalfields and Oneidas don't exactly strike fear in many. I agree they have been woefully under reported though. I will say that Morristown West has been as good as any because they are the only local 4A school that can claim multiple trips to the Maryville game as well as the last team to defeat them. They don't usually have any playoff letdowns. It will be interesting to watch the program now that Woods is gone.
  18. Come on now. With all due respect, it was not intended as a knock on your broadcast as you were not doing games until later in the year. This was referring to my thoughts on a situation that changed suddenly after almost 20 years. Say what you will, but Citadel does a disservice to DB (and yourself) by never promoting the WGOC broadcasts as they did before the invention of the Sports Monster. I personally have contacted several times to complain that they do not mention there other stations games. I actually listened to the 1320 basketball and baseball broadcasts when you picked it up and learned much about DB athletics. When the AM signal powers down however I can't pick you up...any prospects on FM? I also loved the TV broadcast of the DB/Science Hill basketball game. Will you be doing a coaches show with the G man?
  19. Skunk Will you be calling football?
  20. I agree 100%. I'm not sure Cary truly understands the program or knows what is best for the school. Wes was a DB guy who understood what mattered to the school and fans and he and Tom are great friends. I think he would have found a way.
  21. Of course it does. To you everything that sits on the other side of Hammond Bridge stinks. Is it perfect? By no means, but the CHAC hasn't exactly re-created the Maryville program over at Pactolus.
  22. Obviously you care or you wouldn't even be on here. So DB has absolutely nothing to brag about? Believe me, if South had 700 wins you would sure be proud of that. But I disagree with you (of course), the school has much to be proud of and brag about. You can say that they have won more because they have played more (and that is a fact) but the truth is they have won over 76% of there games and as you can see they are #1 in wins as well as the fewest losses of the top 5. DB has 6 state titles recognized by the TSSAA in it's record book. Fact. I suggest you nag the TSSAA if you want that changed. All-Time Wins (Top 5) 1. Dobyns-Bennett (1921): 700-208-28 .763 2. Montgomery Bell Academy (1899): 650-310-46 .669 3. Maryville (1926): 644-213-33 .742 4. Baylor (1908): 634-275-39 .689 5. McCallie (1905): 585-320-44 .640 Listen I hate Notre Dame as much as you hate DB and they have been given a lot of special treatment through the years (including many national championships that, hey!, they didn't actually win on the field...hmmm). But if you've ever witnessed in person a Notre Dame game and see fans come from every corner of the country, and watch the band do its thing marching into the stadium, and the leprechaun, and Amazing Grace at half time on the bagpipes, etc. you realize this is who they are and it is really special (send chills down you). Not to mention Rudy. Sometimes we get caught up in the destination and don't enjoy the journey. FYI: DB doesn't play the Unicois and Norths in football. But hey nice try.
  23. Hey and it will keep you guys from getting whooped and then trying to back out of the next year's game and claiming it was DB that didn't want to play and then claim you would have won /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> Dude they have been successful come playoff time....look it up...just as successful as anyone in this area even WITH a tougher schedule. but good try though
  24. Comp I tend to agree, just look at the NFL players drafted from Tennessee. According to hsfdatabase.com, DB has 2, Science Hill 1, Elizabethton 1, and THS 1...but absolutely zero from Maryville (maybe Carl Stewart this year). And I watched Maples in the Orange/White game and really nothing stood out to me above what I have seen from someone like Coty in recent years. And the best player on the UT team from Blount County could possibly be Brandon Warren (Alcoa)...hopefully. Maryville doesn't quite flood the college rosters either with D1-A players as one would think from a program that wins the way it does. So I tend to agree that it isn't a talent problem around here. I did not travel to the Maryville game but listened on the radio and I work with one of South players' uncle. We talked before the game about what stood out to us and it was Aaron Douglas (6'4, 265) across the middle all day and it would be very tough for any LB/DB to want to defend that for an entire game and sheer talent/strength would prevail. This kid is huge and going to UT...my thinking was you would be ludicrous to do anything else. OH BUT WAIT...that was what I had come to believe from experiencing DB having great players in the past, les't ride them to the title. Yet I can barely remember the announcer calling out the name Aaron Douglass, yet they methodically operated there system...and that is what has won them so many games. The system...coach, players, schemes, desire, tradition, and the flat out notion that we do not want to be "THAT TEAM" in the history of a program that did not get it done. I recently watched a show on ESPN about the Brandon High in Florida that had a 34 year, 359 straight match (wow!) winning streak in wrestling snapped. 36 straight perfect seasons. Those kids didn't look any bigger, stronger, or more skilled than the wrestlers you see every day but after they became "that team" in program history that didn't continue the streak, they started a new streak and claimed something like there 19th state team title. At the end, they scrolled the players names and accomplishments and each kid was a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc member of his family to win a title. It was all summed up prefectly by one of the kids: "I told the guys all the time, it's not just you that you're working for," Brandon junior Eric Grajales said before last Saturday's loss. "It's your teammates, it's the past, it's everyone on our wall. Every state champ ??“ everybody. If you're not going to work for yourself, you have to work for them." It is not about "I" and what "I" can get out of this, but about upholding something greater than yourself. I'm not sure that exists in the area. Maybe South is beginning the process of building that program. I said it many times that there is an atmosphere of "I'll show up in my sweet looking maroon uni and run on my sweet turf and my opponent will fall before me". The talent has surely been there in '98, '00, '02, '06 with the likes of Gaines, Henry, Adonis, Butler, Sensabaugh (Gerald and Coty), Ghee, Williams, Ferguson, Burton, Throps, McMillans, Nottingham but they came up empty. I'm not sure I can lay that all on the coaches because I have to agree with Eddie Durham (DB golf coach) who crtiticized the kids for being comsumed with cars and cell phones and clothes. It is about your culture...Maryville has a culture of "everyone on our wall"
  25. That is wishful thinking. Maybe you should read the TSSAA report on re-classification and it looks like the waters may be muddied up if they go with option B. Although that would circumvent the South's AD choice to drop DB as this option would force them to play in the same conference. No more Unicois and Johnson Counties. Also, I understand that if the TSSAA does keep the system as is, they will adjust the numbers and Maryville would still be 4A. The TSSAA decisions could be very interesting. http://www.johnsoncitypress.com/Columns/Columns_Fritz.php http://www.tssaa.org/Classifications/class...ion20092012.pdf
