  1. Key for the SH offense will be to go with quicker hitting plays. Any time spent in the backfield invites the speed of DB to shut it down for a loss. The other key is to make them pay for blitzes by throwing to the sector left open by the blitz. Short across the middle should be there. They have to get them to play a "straight up" defense before they can run effectively. They haven't done that, with any consistency, thusfar this season. Long drives are overrated when you have a team that gives up fumbles and interceptions. The more plays it takes to score, the more likely you are to make a mistake. Defensively, SH will have to play in the DB backfield. Give them time to open up their power plays and you will pay for it. I hope DB reads its own press clippings...if SH plays a solid game it could lead to quite a surprise.
  2. He is right....but the healing and focus needs to begin this week. They need to put their best effort on the field (and on the sidelines) this week. This team has tended to get too high over some of their wins and too low over some of their losses. If they'll (from coaches down to scout squad) learn from their mistakes and build on their successes they will come out far better than they will from taking the "I made a few mistakes, but look at XXXXX!!!" approach. I hope that your son and those that play with him will go out and play like a team. Those are the lessons that we really want to have them learn from the high school football experience. While I agree that "winning is not everything", I also believe that "putting your best effort on the field" is the caveat to that. philosophy. If this team puts their best effort on the field they will be "scary good"!
  3. It is amazing how many people...including the SH coach seem to "write-off" that final game. SH has a great deal of talent. Team chemistry has been weak at best, but if they can somehow "pull it together" as a team for one night it really could be interesting. Their record to date is about the worst it could be given their skills. Anyone looking past them could get into trouble. That said, Graham Clark has never failed to have his team ready for SH, and I don't expect it this time, but if SH truly plays to their capability, and the coaches get rid of the "run first" (or run only) philosophy (which there are hints might happen), it could be quite interesting. Sometimes you set up the run with the pass. Last week the cougars put 8-9 in the box....and even 11 at some times....SH promptly ran right at it! When that happens you do tend to struggle until you "break one" (or hopefully 2 or 3) which is what happened. That being said, it will be difficult to do that the next two weeks. The timing of the plays seems to be a bit off. Blocks are made while the play is still developing in the backfield. There were some hints that this may be coming around a bit last week. It is all about when you "gel". The chemistry thing is the largest concern from where I sit. This team HAS to believe in itself!
