  1. Assuming you can read, Eddie, if you will look closely you will see that I said "How about we actually go ahead and have all the teams still in the play-offs line up across from each other on the field this Friday at 7:00?" I never said WE would line up. According to beatle juice, the literary term for what I was using is sarcasm. särkzm n. 1. A cutting, often ironic remark intended to wound. 2. A form of wit that is marked by the use of sarcastic language and is intended to make its victim the butt of contempt or ridicule. 3. The use of sarcasm. See Synonyms at wit.
  2. Here's some logic for you: How about we actually go ahead and have all the teams still in the play-offs line up across from each other on the field this Friday at 7:00? We'll play by the NFF rules, and the team with the most points wins. Here's hoping that the fans don't ruin it, but the sarcastic jerks - like me - sure have a lot of fun in the mean time.
  3. This entire thread is an idiotic waste of time. Why anyone would bother wasting their time reading it, let alone replying to it is beyond me. The question is not whether anyone in 2A has a chance against DL, but anyone, period. They are the highest paid team in Tennessee. Have you seen their roster? It looks like Oklahoma's! And their facilities are immaculate. They put Oregon's to shame. No wonder kids come from all over the nation to play for them. There is no reason to subject any of these poor boys from inferior teams (all teams short of the NFL's elite) to play this powerhouse. Look at how may state championships they've won - they are a factory. As for Houston Co., I hear DL is planning on marinating and slow rosting their carcasses over an open fire after the game. I pray that no one from Houston Co. get maimed, but it looks like it's inevitable. Jettjuice, we all know you're looking for bulletin board material for your own Houston Co. team, so I hope the second paragraph was what you needed. Let me know if that's not good enough. I'd say DL knows they're beatable. In looking at their results, they had close games against Goodpature, Westmoreland, Greenbrier & Ezell-Harding. To my knowledge, none of those teams are the Titans. I know of McAdams at DL; he's not looking past HC. Anybody overlooking the hottest team in 2A (HC) is an idiot, and McAdams is NOT an idiot (maybe overweight, but not an idiot). So if you want the truth, look at paragraph 4, but again, for bulletin board material, look at paragraph 2.
  4. Just checked the Vegas line: the over/under is 6, and DL is favored by 10. I hear the ESPN Gameday Crew built by Home Dept will be there. Corso has requested both a mustang head and an irish head for his big pre-game predictions. Herbstreit has requested more styling gel. The other guy . . . well, I can't even remeber who the other guy is. 2A guru, if we go watch the PS2 game you can ride w/ me & mustangfan, but I have shotgun. I called it yesterday. Personally, I think yuo guys are forgetting a few important things. As was decided last week on another thread, there's no way HC can win b/c 1) DL has more players on their team than HC, 2) DL is a private school and HC is public, and 3) DL is urban and HC is rural. There's no sense showing up for this one. In fact, I hear Ronnie Carter is calling both schools now to tell them to just go ahead and put the score on the score board as DL 5 (a sefety and 4 extra points) and HC 2 (a safety). But seriously folks, Mitchell and McMillan will connect for over 500 yards, and DL wil win on a last second drop-kick by McMeen or Rose.
  5. Intersting. I too heard they had radio communication in their helmets. Just like what they have in the NFL. That must have cost them a pretty penny. Even more intersting is the fact that Smith wuold choose to spend that kind of cash on headsets when they still dress in a crappy fieldhouse, and overall have very average facilties. Oh well, facilties get you nothing. Headsets must get you a state championship.
  6. You're right. I have my years off a bit. In '96 he was with Nick Saban at LSU. After that he went to Tampa. I hear that he has an open invitation to join Dungy at Indy at any time. Also hear that Sleight served as mediator for Indy this off-season between Manning and Vanderjack (the punter w/ a big mouth). The guy is a miracle worker. When Manning points to the croud after a TD he's pointing at his wife who is holding a picture of Sleight in her right hand (the hand Sleight embraced when he provided marital counseling for them during a trying time). Sleight was supposed to officiate the wedding but was in Papua New Guineau converting canibals that summer.
  7. His name is not Bob, it's Bill. And the last name is wrong too. His name is Bill Spain. He was the campus minister at BB from 1996 to 2002, and is now at DL. Prior to '96, he was w/ the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as assocoaite chaplain under Tony Dungy's leadership. Dungy spoke of him last year at Carson-Newman's coaching clinic in Knoxville. Said all schols should have a chaplian - even public schools. Said Spain was the beacon of light that guided him through many a dark night of the soul. Then he wept. Spain's job responsibilities at DL are varied. He does indeed coach the LB's, but his main job on gamenight is the jazz coach (real football enthusiasts will know what that is). He is the mouthpiece of the entire DL staff. He doesn't make gameplans or adjustment, but he converys them to the team. He is such an orator, teacher, rabbi and friend to the kids. Talking to McAdams at DL, there's no way DL could've won last year's championship w/o Spain. They went into half time of last year's first round game down to Marion Co. 6-0. McAdams and the rest tried to get the boys' heads up, but to no avail. Marion drove the opning kick-off of the second half down to DL's 1. DL then called a timeout. Spain told the other coaches to get back and let him handle it (players said McAdams says "How high" when Spain says "jump."). He then looked all 11 players in the eye and told each of them that he loved them (that took a while so they took a second timeout). The D then retook the field and forced a fumble. The O took over and scored 21 unanswered.
  8. The best secondary we see in most years is Greensboro's. Their head coach, Bill Rickles, played DB for Hawthorne back in the mid 70's when the Red Robins were noted for giving up under 2 points per game. I think they now have 2 DB coaches: one for CB's and one for safeties (that shows you how importnat they think the secondary is). Their CB coach's last name is Grayber (sp?) and he played for the Sacramento Spirits in the now defunct OFL. He covered everybody from James Powers to Lenny Gassalar, and covered them like a glove, too. Their safeties coach is actually a good friend of mine, Tank Bastilonsky (his real name was Francis, but he could hit like a "tank" and no one dared call him by such a girly name). We went to college together at William & Madison. W & M is not exactly a football power, but they never gave up a TD of over 12 yards while Tank played SS. Since we've been playing them for the last decade they haven't allowed a single passing TD. Think about it, twelve years and no passing TD's allowed! I've talked with Tank and he says the key to their success is what they call Whitmore State pass coverage. Apparently WSU played a big game as underdogs some years ago against a big-time passing team and beat them.
  9. I appreciate the fact that CSS shows a game of the week. I really hope they continue to do so. I thoroughly enjoy watching the re-airs each Tuesday. However, Blake and Pat are idiots. I don't expect them to be necessarily fully knowledgable of the teams. I know what we see on Saturdays and Sundays has a lot more work and a lot more money going into the production. But that still doesn't excuse idiocy. Many of their comments are down right rude, and at best thoughtless. We're talking about high school kids here, not professional athletes and not even college age kids on scholarship. I have heard them make derogatory comments that would probably not be tolerated by college and/or pro analysts. There is no need for the Howard Stern approach to be used. I would rather hear a couple of vanilla old farts talk about a whole lot of nothing than a couple of young know-it-alls talk about a whole lot of nothing and insult kids.
  10. Grapevine told me GP's Turner had "several personal foul penalties." True?
  11. Can somebody please elaborate more on this game? Did GP have injuries?
