  1. Tribefans Take: McMinn: Kicking game advantage goes to the cherokees with Stansell being a difference maker Spread offense seemed to give DB some problems last week Very good in the secondary Not very big on the offensive or defensive lines Better then average team speed especially at the skilled positions McMinn has improved as the season has progressed Long bus ride to DB....just hope the ride back is a bit shorter DB: Great football tradition Very sound offense DB does a good job of controlling the flow of the game from what I have seen Good speed on both sides of the ball Athletic wide recievers AWESOME field!! GO TRIBE!!!
  2. Please tell me somebody from east Tennessee is not voting for Osama Hussean Obama? If you have and own a gun you better hide it along with your money becuase the tax man (Obama) cometh and he will taketh away and give to the people that dont work and dont own a gun and believe in aboritions.
  3. If McMinn can hang onto the ball then they can make this game a close one. They have done a good job of limiting the turnovers the second part of the season and it has shown by going 4-1. I like the fact that DB is not all that big at least when compared to Ooltewah, Farragut and Bradley becuase that gives McMinn a chance to slow the pass rush. When Ables has time he is effective but when he is hurried he tends to panic but has improved as the season has progressed in reference to the later. I say DB will see many formations from the Cherokees and some they may not have seen on film as this offense has more become more complex as the season has progressed. Sure the favorite is DB but McMinn is excited about the opportunity to play a team that is rich in tradition like the Indians and are confident that they will make this a competitive game. GO TRIBE!!!!
  4. Will Muschamp - D coordinator at Texas will be the next head coach at UT
  5. Ok DB posters I will ask again as simply as I know how.....Is the field the real stuff ya know GRASS or is it the man made stuff ya know artificial turf? The reason I ask is because the field looks great almost as good as the one @ CHEROKEE stadium.....and from the pictures I am looking at you cant determine. It looks like mother nature might play a role in this one as I see on www.weather.com they are calling for a 40% chance of rain. GO TRIBE!!!
  6. Gee thanks for the heads up.....How can a team with such a storied tradition have such poor facilities much like Oak Ridge. I suppose your alumni center has been completed and is very nice...that is something to be proud of. Why does the baseball & football have to share field space? Not to be critical but the last time we were up there I was not very impressed with the field and dressing room facilities. Maybe someday you guys can visit us here in Athens....the visitors have a nice large seating area with there own bathroom and concession area and the visiting locker room is carpeted with individual wooden lockers and a multi station shower area not to mention a meeting room for the visiting coaching staff. I had been told that DB had converted to a artificial playing surface.....
  7. Does DB still have the same field where the baseball field is in the corner of one of the end zones? Has anything changed there in the last few years?
  8. McMinn has shown signs of being a fine football team this season but at times they have also shown that they make mistakes at key times in a game. The later of the two was during the first half of the season and recently have made the plays when they have to which has enabled them to put a W on the board. McMinn gets into the spread offense out of the gun and never takes a snap under center......they have an effective running attack with #34 Ellison who is a hard shifty runner and #11 McDermott who is more of a slasher.....the QB #10 Ables is 6"4 210 and has improved as the season has progressed. The most valuable weapon the TRIBE has is #16 Stansell who does all of the punting and kicking.....he is averaging 43 yds. per punt this season and has made field goals from 48, 49 & 51 not to mention 94% of his kickoffs are deep into the endzone. He is a difference maker and can flip the field in a heart beat.... Playing DB is a huge challenge for McMinn and a game that this team is looking forward to. They know the tradition and history but they have seen similair at schools like Oak Ridge, Ooltewah & Farragut so they are use to playing great teams with great traditions much like DB. They know about the huge band and all of the pre-game hype and are actually excited about the opportunity. More from Tribefan as the week progresses..... GO TRIBE!!!!
  9. Both are good athletes and in my mind are capable of getting the job done.....I like Masingale and the running threat he brings it is more like the scheme we had last year with Johnson @ QB and in my opinion works better then the traditional pocket passer. I put confidence in Bo and his staff that he will have the best players on the field and will make decions that are best for the entire team. Whoever plays QB doesn't matter much to me what does matter is beating those darn bears as bad as we can!!! GO TRIBE!!!
  10. I dont know that I agree with you PayDirt.....Yes Masingale is a good athlete and is a bit more mobile.....Ables is a good athlete as well and has a much stronger arm.....the down side for Cy is in my opinion he likes to squeeze the ball a bit to long and needs to look for the undreneth route as he likes to throw the deep ball when he has the short route open the majority of the time. Both kids are good football players but they both have different styles.... There is no doubt McMinn is the better team on paper and should win this one but like I have said in the past when you put 16 & 17 year old kids on the football field anything can happen and it usually does that is what makes high school football so much fun to watch. GO TRIBE!!!!
  11. Ables is ready to go if needed......hopefully McMinn will play well enough to not need his services. Look for McMinn to start fast and control the tempo of this game with there offensive scheme....Coach Cagle is doing a fine job with this group as they have faced adverisity and have found a way to overcome it and are positioned to make a run deep into the playoffs. But first they must take care of there long time rival Bradley..... GO TRIBE!!!
  12. Ables status will be a game time decision......he has taken some snaps in practice this week and is available if McMinn needs him. Masingale is not a bad replacement he actually adds a different element to the offense.....more of a threat to run and has shown the ability to make the good throws when he has to. If McMinn does a good job of containing the two backs from Bradley and not let them cut back and make the big plays then McMinn should be in good position to limit what the Bears like to do on offense. The passion and emotion will be there in this one and with a playoff spot on the line it will make for a good spooky Halloween football night @ CHEROKEE stadium. Dont be surprised if the old cherokee ghost "Spirit" doesnt play a role in this one... GO TRIBE!!!!
  13. Ables is available if he is needed.....
  14. As if you needed to add a playoff birth to this long time rival game to bring out the emotion from both sides. This is the oldest and consecutive running game in Tennessee with the two first playing each other in the early 1900's. Both sides despise each other and would beat the other as bad as they can given the chance. With the fourth and final playoff place going to the victor of this game and given the history I look for the emotions to be at a peak. Stansell is a difference maker especially if this game turns into a defensive struggle....I look again for the Cherokees to try to establish the run and throw enough to keep the bears honest. On the other hand the bears will try the same approach but will need to have more success throwing it to slow down the McMinn defense. Tribefan's Take: Turnovers - in this type game they usually determine the outcome Defense - McMinn has the speed advantage on both sides Offense - Can Bradley make the plays when they have to Offense - Will Masingale continue to play well as the QB for McMinn Throw the record book out the window for this game..... McMinn 28 Bradley 13 GO TRIBE!!!

    Kickers?

Lets add another 48 yarder to Stephen Stansell resume......last night againist Heritage he made this FG in the first quarter......his kick offs were landing beyond the end zone......this 2008 pre-season first team all-state is living up to the hype
  16. This is about what I thought it might be.....McMinn was a bit sluggish on offense but moved the ball well at times. Defense came out a little flat in the 3rd quarter but picked it up after Heritage scored......a win is a win and McMinn is glad to have them. On another note.....I do not like Thursday night games......McMinn's crowd was down and it messes up the whole week, not to mention I had to get up and come to work this morning. High school football is supposed to be on Friday nights lets outlaw Thursday night games! GO TRIBE!!
  17. It was just a lucky guess....
  18. Actually I got the idea from Penn State when they have "The White Out"......seeing that #10 Ables is not playing tonight McMinn might not score as many points because it will be mostly a running attack but I still look for the Tribe to win and win big..... Just a predication but look for #11 for McMinn to have a break out game both rushing and recieving..... GO TRIBE!!
  19. It is homecoming at McMinn tonight as they host Maryville Heritage in a Region 2 5A game. The McMinn booster club is promoting tonights game as "The Blackout" and encouraging all McMinn fans young and old to wear black. The team will be in all black and I believe the first 200 fans in the gate will recieve a free black t-shirt with "GO Tribe" on the front if they dont already have black on. It should be exciting and a good way for the fans to show there support! GO TRIBE!!!
  20. Oh dont worry it will get busted.....then busted again next week by the Owls Go ahead and make plans to travel to Science Hill or DB as these two teams play each other next week.....for 1st and 2nd in Region 1 5A All kidding aside great season SD.....you have certaintly surprised alot of people
  21. I suppose both punt returns that we called back were legit calls. And I suppose the SD player stepping a yard out of bounds and the side judge not calling him out is legit as well. Good luck againist Farragut and the Owls but dont be upset when your Trojan is busted and you are traveling to Science Hill after finishing 3rd in Region 2 5A.....I hear the weather is nice in Johnson City...
