1. QUOTE(knoxlax @ May 9 2007 - 07:29 PM) 826455693who said anything about henry hic high? no mention of getting state wide sanction. georgia and north carolina were offered as comparisons. neither has state wide sanction, so why would you bring that up? both use a county by county system, which could be easily employed to localize the lacrosse in tennessee to the metropolitan areas.

georgia was sanctioned in 2002. look it up.

i certainly didn't say that the privates were afraid of competition. please reread my posts. i offered that tssaa will not lower the privates, but it would elevate the publics. privates don't want tssaa because it will place restrictions on them (off season practice limitations, possible travel limitations, restriction on length of season, etc) while providing virtually nothing in terms of benefit, other than hanging a "real" state title banner in the gym. tssaa is needed to make schools support the lax teams, and the privates already do this. and by support, i mostly mean that they will allow them to exist (which is a current problem in knox county), use a weight room, and get at least some games on school property.

programs fund themselves already. we don't need tssaa money. who is asking for money?

i disagree with your assertion that public schools have been on par with privates in nc and georgia. they most certainly have not. only in the last few years have they become consistently competitive, which coincides with sanctioning. 5 years ago, guilford county did not sanction lax. now they do. western guilford is now ranked in the top 5 in nc. count how many guilford schools there are now, after the sanctioning. guilford county has no more transplants than any tennessee county.

in tennessee there have been no competitve public schools. 1 germantown team was good 12 years ago. how long did germantown last? as long as their volunteer coach stayed. after germantown faded, farragut took over as top public school. they never won a single playoff game, yet went 4 years without losing to another public. cordova had 1 good team.now ravenwood has the title of best public. they are a great team no doubt. perhaps the public school that breaks into small club of state champs (which are all private). but only time will tell if this is a program that will stay where it is or will it fall back once all those seniors graduate. bhs and franklin have been around for close to fifteen years. same with hillboro. with a few small anomalies (franklins current team), none of these programs have risen within a whisker of the top privates and ZERO have maintained that loft for any amount of time. to suggest that public school programs are rising is ludicrous.

to my knowledge. mba, mus and mccallie have lost ZERO games to publics (outside of this recent ravenwood team) in the last FIFTEEN years.

maybe ravenwood is lassiter. but who are the harrisons, miltons, chattahoochies, etc in tennessee?

if you doubt the effect of sanctioning on level of play, just watch mecklenberg county. charlotte providence is the only public with any history of success. now that they were elevated from club to varsity, we will see if any of the meck schools become decent. i'm betting the farm that they do.

If you actually read the article that this whole topic is about you would have read: "The Georgia High School Association added lacrosse as a championship sport for boys and girls in 2005." So yea, "georgia was sanctioned in 2002. look it up," wouldnt eactly be the smart thing to say on this board, unless our #1 journalism source in Middle Tennessee is wrong.

  2. I honestly dont know how you can argue against Harvey deserving to get the award last year. His team beat Little's by 7 in the playoffs...the night before little was presented with the award. And then he led his team to win the Championship. Sounds like a pretty valueable coach to me.

And as for this year, Im not going to say who should get it, cause its only half-way through the season right now, and that would just be stupid to try to argue for someone when half of the big games have not happened yet. But i will say this: I garuntee you that no team in the state loves playing for their coach as much as MBA does for Harvey.

  3. QUOTE(naderlax23 @ Apr 10 2007 - 10:48 PM) 826434424clearly whoever wrote this is biased and ignorant. /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" /> while Cahill is indeed an exceptional player, there is a reason why Chase and Corey were both going top tier D1. Hayes was going to Duke before the scandal, the number one team in the country. instead, he's going to Bryant along with Mike Pressler, the former duke coach. furthermore, Blair would put the straps on Cahill and that other guy any day. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Im going to go out on a limb here and say that Hayes was probably not going to go to Duke, and if he was, it seems like it would have to be a walk on kind of thing. I jsut dont see someone who has "top D-I tallent" deciding to go to a D-II school which would probably lose to some high school teams. Just a thought

  4. QUOTE(brothersnv @ Apr 7 2007 - 02:49 PM) 826431892The announcer said Wes McKeithan was the leader in face off wins when he wasn't. In 2005 he was but not in 2006. He didnt lead in wins or face off percentage, he was also second team all state for face offs. Just letting you know.

honestly...this just sounds like a cocky christian bros. kid who is only concerned with his one statistic...lets just concentrate on the game at hand and not worry about some amatuer announcers who are doing the best they can.

  5. QUOTE(tornadowarnin @ Feb 18 2007 - 12:50 PM) 826377384all you guys with MBA on top might wanna rethink that, cuz McCallie had a player on suspension last year and would have probly won state, but this year its gonna be McCallie dominating through the Big Red of MBA

...for some reason, I seem to remember the MBA vs McCallie regular season game in which that suspended player did play for McCallie...and MBA won the game 15-8... just a thought

  6. TOM JACKSON without a doubt is the best defender in the state of tennessee, Along with some other studs on the mccallie team. THis could be the first time in a while mccallie has had not one but two all americans.

Alright wow dude; idk about without a doubt best defender in the state. I dont think you have watched either MBA or MUS play yet, and im sure ravenwood will put up some good d guys too.

  7. What about Taylor and Rainer, the state's two top goalies, where are they headed?

    825685205

I dont mean to be dumping on either of those goalies, because they were definitely the best two goalies in the state this year, however i dont think that either of them are the caliber of varsity college lacrosse goalies. I have seen alot of goalies play, especiall up north and they are way above these two in skill level and definitely tecnique. You might just be asking if they are playing club anywhere, which i would not be supprised at, because im sure they will both do well playing club. Sorry i dont know the answer to your question though. Also, just want to say congradulations to both of the all state goalies this year.

  8. Actually, about the soccer field, it was in great shape for the game. It seemed like it might have been a little bit smaller than a regulation field, but it was good, except for mabey a little bit of clumpy grass

  9. If you (24/7lax) is just trying to get people to say good stuff about usn, you might be dissapointed because there not a whole lot to talk about. Sure you got some indivdual talent but your team stinks and your record shows it.

    825658967

Actually, it wasnt really that usn played well, MBA just played a very sloppy game, came out really slow, and never got going.

  10. after reviewing the game, chris taylor did not make "17 WICKED SAVES" but he actually only made about 8... the others were deflected by poles or hit the bar.

    825647145

Hitting the post does count as a save for Taylor.

  11. Yeah, Kappy, and we managed to win a lot in years past despite your ugly face...

    easy on the jerseys!

All in jest, kaplander, that game was definately one of the most nerve-wracking-and-awesome games i have ever been a part of.  I still have a headache (and its many hours since the game).  Lassiter's players were really nice, good sports, even when they were down.

    825642973

I agree, all the guys from lassiter were really nice and good sports when we (mba) played them too.

  12. I thought the Farragut vs. USN game got cancelled due to the storms, but Laxpower reports Farragut winning 15-8, then USN lost to Houston by 1 goal.

What is wrong with USN?  OR is Farragut and Houston that good?

    Did Farragut play MBA yesterday?

    825636736

MBA beat farragut by something like 17-7 yesterday. Farragut isnt that bad, they have one decent attack and two good long poles but other than that they actually were pretty bad.

  13. Miller from Father Ryan is a lock for all-state, and maybe James Leeper on D. Douglas (goalie) will surprise some people too.

    825634743

Ok, we played Ryan earlier this year and no one on their team really impressed me much at all, so i dont know what this is about some guy being a lock for all-state. The goalie was actually pretty good and had quite a few quality saves and stuffed a few guys, so he might be worthy of some recognition.

  14. I'm with brentwood29 all the way through this one. I am so sick of all the kids that play DI high school lacrosse who think that they are better than everyone else. You don't know a thing about DII lacrosse. You don't know what its like to be on a team from scratch. You don't know what its like not to have the best coaches in the state. You don't know what its like to know that every year people think you're a joke. You don't know what its like not to have a place to play or even practice. You don't know what its like to go to practice with kids from 2,3, even 4 different schools and not have any chemistry and trying to be a team. You don't know what it is like not to be able to wear your school's colors or don on one of your school's unis. You don't know what its like for kids to think that your style and division of lacrosse is a joke. You don't know what it is like to not be seen by big time scouts. You don't know what it is like to have to spend time at different fund raisers just so you are able to have a season. See the thing is that some of you are so blinded by winning and DI results that you don't take the time to notice how hard it is for the DII kids. I think those kids work twice as hard as DI kids, in a sense. (I know some of you will take that literally but see where I am coming from first, before you quote me.) They have to fight through everything that DI kids take for granted, i.e. playing feilds, practice fields, team chemistry, great coaching, school sponsorship, and being noticed by College Varsity teams. People should realize that all teams should be given a chance. Don't get me wrong I am not here to bash DI guys because I am not. I am simply trying to make everyone aware of the sacrifice that kids other than DI players make in order to play our great game. I played DII my junior and senior year for the Centennial/Franklin team and saw that DII lacrosse is much more difficult than people think. So please next time any big DI schools get done wailing on those DII schools, because I know it will happen, after the game when you are shaking those kids hands really remember about what you give up to play our game and what they also have to do in order to play as well. We aren't all as lucky as you guys. Just be thankful for what you have and be respectful to all teams is all I ask. Respect is a two way street. I know that all of DII respects DI mainly because you guys, for the most part are the best of what Tennesse has to offer in lacrosse, but I don't think it works the other way most of the time. Enjoy the game and respect what each person does to be able to play.

    825609280

I definitely respect what you are saying, and i appritiate that all the D II teams are starting teams and sacrificing to grow lax in tennessee; but the one thing that i wanted to say is about scouting. Most of the College coaches and even scouts do not even come to any Tennessee lacrosse games. The time when people are scouted for college is during summer camps. So just letting you know that if anyone thinks that they want to play in college then they should be going to camps in the summer, mainly up north, in order to be scouted instead of worrying about scouts at their games in the spring.

  15. As I understand some teams lost a lot of D and others lost nearly none, who is still strong and who is looking good.  I know MBA will be very solid with Turk and Banker.  I played summer league with one of their guys this summer and he was very impressive.  Any other teams?  Redtwin i want to hear from you (as i understand you did play defense).  Who impressed you last year if you saw any games.

    825595180

Im obviously not Redtwin, but im sure you could figure out that i play for MBA, and we have a very solid defense this year. Like you said, Banker and Turk are back; turk has been out for a while with an injury, but he'll be back fairly soon and im sure back to speed. The third d spot is up for grabs, but we have another very solid junior, some pretty good seniors, and a good sophmore who im sure will all get some playing time. The strength of our defense will probably depend on how hte middies play. Also, MUS's defense seems to be pretty strong especially considering that they lost most of their good players last year.
