if colby proves to be good enough to get to play on varsity i say great and i like the birchfields and i like lunsford. but i think he is not as ready as some of the older ones on the team. i hope he can prove me wrong and i do believe he will start at rb as a sophmore.

i think they were co-players of the year but not sure. colby is better on offense and whitehead on defense. i think colby will end up being one of the best backs cloudland has had but it is very hard for a freshman to take the beating that a varsity back takes. he didnt really get hit a whole lot last year because of all the long runs he had. i hope he breaks the all time rushing record when he is done but to do that the team will have to be very good and go deep in the playoffs. i think dakota benfield has the record and he didnt start getting a lot of touches until he was a sophmore but he got a lot of extra games from the team making deep runs into the playoffs.

jeffery was playing qb and i believe the qb will have the 2nd most rushes on the team not the #2 back. and while colby did do great in jr high, it is different than varsity. i think he will get a few touches as a rb but i dont think he will be the #2 back. arnett was averys starting rb last year before childress transferred in. and lacy is not a bad runner. this team is deapest at the skill positions.

the time he is splitting may be preparing him to run the ball a lot for jv. taylor and jeffery will get almost all the carries. does anybody know who will coach the jr high? i wonder if they will try to get them to run the spread to. i think it may not be the best for the jr high team right now in terms of wins, but it would help the high school team in the future if they start running it now.

are they practicing at the football field or the softball field?

i heard the new coach will be bringing one assistant with him but i dont know for o or d. looked at the school he came from it looked like they had a very strong offense and defense last year and also had a couple players commit to UVA. threw the ball 10 to 15 times a game.

supposed to be starting spring practice on thursday.

i read where rye coves head coach stepped down on monday but he is 64 year old. maybe one of his assistants.

not sure of when an announcement or decision will be made but they interviewed four coaches on friday. i think at least two were from virginia.

i believe consolidation would be very bad for the roan mountain community. i for one have very rarely missed any football or basketball games over the last ten years or so and just wouldnt feel connected to a consolidated school. their is no pride like the pride of a small town school. i also think the drop out rate would increase. sports help keed a lot of kids in school and if you combine the schools a lot more kids will not be able to be on the basketball, baseball and softball teams. a larger school generally does not give a student the one on one attention they may need. a larger school generally has more crime and thugs. i also think it would help avery high as they would start getting a few more transfers in from roan mtn. a small school is a family and i for one do not like to see families broken up. i think we need to get as many people as possible to attend this meeting and voice our oppinions. because if they think nobody cares they will be much more likely to consolidate.

yeah next year should be as competitive as this year with mostly the same players. hampton and clouldland each only have one senior and unaka only has two.

Well Oneida has apparently hired thier former coach. would be nice to see cloudland do the same.

she came from watauga in boone not avery. she has never lived in elk park. but thanks for being jealous all the same.

no choice or at least no announcement today. called the players in and told them no head coach as of now but overbay and bowlin would be assistants. told them the first game is against andrews on the 18th and that the team would be the first to know when a head coach is named.

district 1a 1 thru 4 is going to be very interesting. i think who ever wins district will have two loses and i would give cloudland, hampton, unaka, and university high all an even 25 percent chance of winning it. and i know cloudland hampton and unaka are pretty young and will be good for the next 2 to three years and hampton and cloudland even longer than that.
