  1. Anyone going to be at the 2nd game at the pit should they make it past Oakland in the first round? Can't make it to this week's game since I have to work.

I am hoping they make it that far cause I really have yet to have had much of an opportunity to see them play this year due to being in school and working full time. I'm hoping to see an impressive team, like everyone has said they are. Have to cheer on your hometown football team regardless.

  2. And you think those high school polls are accurate? Trinity was 3 or 4 and did not belong anywhere near. Alot of those polls are, based around bigger media hubs, a blue chip player, and other factors that make them incorrect. I think we all know that #1 is correct though. I think that there are probably 100 teams between Texas, California, and Florida that could beat MBA or any team in TN for that matter.

I agree that those polls aren't accurate. Those polls are based on year to year consistency, media hubs, etc and not who's actually best on any particular year. There is no real way they could come up with a list of who's actually the best teams every year, so that is just mostly a formal thing. The private schools normally remain at the top of this list since it's easy for them to keep their talent pool up and self promote themselves through the media, etc into a better ranking over the period of a number of years.

  3. CBG............excuse me, but could you repeat where those East Tennessee teams were ranked. I mean just the great ones, not All of them. Maybe start with Maryville.

That depends on how you are ranking them. Maryville ranks atop the 4A classification, but likely around 5th overall. Streaks mean nothing Unless you're talking about what's happened this year, and then there are other factors to consider like MBA's only loss being to BA, etc.

  4. Oh yea ... Top Ten

    1 Maryville

    2 biased opinion

    3 slanted suggestion

    4 hairy knuckled jealousy jargon

    5 Wannabe wrathful ranting

6 If and buts = Candy and nuts rhetoric

    7 swag and slobber

    8 inflated opinion instigator

    9 mindless motor mouth

10 Watched Maryville one time know it all askey dunkirk.

    Finally ... Please Out ;)

That's hilarious....but I'm sure some are going to be too serious and not see the humor it was meant for and say that other names should be there instead of maryville.

  5. I agree they would handle the east, but there are a host of teams in central tennessee that are historically powerhouses, and then you have your average teams that have good years. In 4A Maryville is without a doubt tops, but them playing OR and DB regularly, in addition to likely meeting brentwood, riverdale, LC, franklin, dickson county in the playoffs....they would loose as much as they win.

  6. I didn't say they wouldn't succeed at going deep into the playoffs, just that they wouldn't maintain streaks like the current one they have. I could see them going into the playoffs every year, but I don't see them winning it every year like they have lately. The change is minute, yes, but enough of a change to make the difference from being dominant down to being great.

Start with the top four in the super 7 then add LC and everybody starts at#6

You can be as biased as you want one way or another, but I think the majority of the coaches in both the super 7 and public sectors of high school football would agree that BA, LC, and MBA (in alphabetical order so you know) are there three picks for best teams in state overall. Sure Maryville has a streak to be reckoned with and respected. I applaud them for what they've accomplished, but WHEN they do come to 5A the streak will fall. Those streaks just can't happen in the 5A ranks. There is too much fluctuation of talent around the league year to year for one team to dominate that way. Super 7 have the ability to keep their talent level up by picking and choosing who attends, and that is why they are more dominant year to year than the public schools. However, every year there is 1 or 2 public schools that can compete with the super 7 teams and give them a good game. I can't see LC not being in the top 2 personally, and do consider MBA the best overall team talent wise in the state. If the two teams were to play I'd say MBA would win 6 out of 10 due to talent level and depth being slightly higher. I'm a LC fan at heart, but remember the games where we've played Div II teams. National rankings speak of consistency year after year, not actual best team overall on any particular year. LC is impressive this year, and I think that most would agree with me that they could beat anyone in the state. I don't think on the other hand they could do it to the top 5 teams in the state every time, nor could any other team. Without a doubt they are the best 5A team in the state, just as Maryville is in their classification, and so on. Only a vote of the coaches, maybe just the top ranked coaches would be an alternative to actually having them play a game.

Who thinks someone should start a poll with like the majority agreed upon top 5 or 10?

    Go Falcons! <_<

  8. Question is not if Oakland can step it up and be competitive, but can they do so consistently for the length of an entire game. They have the coaching and players to do it, just as LC or any other team can overlook their opponent and set themselves up for a devastating wake up call, often when it's too late. I don't see Coach Thompson letting that happen, but strange things happen every year to at least a couple of teams in the playoffs. LC has the talent advantage and I'm leaving the coaching one in the air since I don't know or have never watched much Oakland football. Either way it's the team that wants it the most and the better coached 'team' that wins since no individual or individuals can win a game on their own.

Both teams prepared equally though....I see LC winning by a hefty margin. Don't see a shutout due to the reserves being played a good bit and everyone having fine tuned most of the season now, but I don't see Oakland scoring regularly either.

    Go Falcons!

  9. Yeah...good to hear they are doing well. Has it been mostly running the ball tonight or a mixture of running and passing. I know some people on the forum here were talking about fine tuning some on the passing game since we know we can run the ball. Thanks for all the updates by the way...It makes work a lot more bearable.

  10. Josh Gregory for Lincoln County

Running back that has 159 carries for 1049 yds and 23 TD's bringing him to a 6.59 yards per carry. Trouble he has is that defenses have keyed on him after averaging 150+ in the first 4 games this season, but that's opened things up for the quarterback to rush for nearly 1000 yards so far this season. On top of all that he's usually been pulled by the third quarter due to the score.

  11. Michael Edmiston

    High School: Lincoln Co.

    Class: 2004

    Position: Quarterback

    Sex: Male

    Height: 6-0

    Weight: 202 pounds

    40 combine time: 4.86

    Rushing: 95-att 970-yds 12-TD 0-2pt

    Passing: 74-att 33-cmp 689-yds 10-TD 0-2pt

    Punting: 18-att 663-yds 36.8-avg

All of this and he's been pulled early in most of the games this season due to the score. These stats were pulled from the tennessean.com site.
