  1. The stadium reminds me of 'The Pit' at LC. Similar build in style even though the pit was built in the very early 80's. It's a huge school and the facilities are very nice. LC has a seperate school for 9th grade called 9th grade academy (where Central JH/HS used to be located) Very very nice though I must say for a public school. They obviously spent a lot of money on the school.
  2. This is before TSSAA, but does anyone remember Ricky Blake that played for LC in the early 1980's. He was an amazing and exciting back to watch. He had incredible size and speed. If my memory serves me correctly he sent a number of defensive backs out of the game or to the hospital because he preferred to punish them with the colision rather than evade them. It was amusing to actually see defensive backs seemingly jump out of his way when he lowered his head and shoulders running full speed. He ended up playing some CFL after high school and went on to score the first touchdown in the divisional playoff against detroit for the dallas cowboys in 1991. He broke his hip on that play and never played again. Nice memory though. Rod Buchanan was also another good running back but played beside Kelly Holcomb so didn't see as much running action as he could have.
  3. That having been said, I agree with the 94 Riverdale team being outstanding. I also have to agree with prior statements that the 93 LC team was completely dominant the entire season with no one really challenging them that much. David Grogan ran down the supposed fastest man in tennessee from behind that season, and Chad Henderson and Carlos Hadley were absolutely disruptive every play, pass or run the pressure was there.
  4. Someone asked on the football boards where and when the allstar game was going to be held. If someone could move this over there I would greatly appreciated it. There is a roster of who could be playing as well. Thanks http://www.rhs.rcs.k12.tn.us/sports/footba...ar%20Roster.htm
  5. Okay..I'm getting tired of agreeing with you! I also think LC would have matched up with Gtown better. LC was bigger than riverdale, and fast enough that they could have matched Gtown's speed. Riverdale probably the fastest team in the state overall. Officiating aside because both teams got both good and bad calls in the LC/riverdale game, LC got whipped basically because of riverdale having more depth and overall speed. LC could match them in some of the positions, but not enough to cover everyone that riverdale was forcing them to cover. I don't believe Gtown could have pulled that off. And once again if Michael Edmiston ever got loose into Gtown's secondary....well it's back to trying to catch a rabbit in the cornfield at night again. But that's just my opinion. I would have loved to see it, and I can think of 1 99 yard run that were it not called back might have been the difference in LC getting there vs riverdale. That didn't happen though. Sometimes the ball doesn't always bounce your way, and that's the way the game is played...and the reason the best team doesn't always win. I think riverdale is a really good team that executed almost flawlessly until the Gtown game, then they made up for the mistakes they didn't make until then in the playoffs. The coaching kept them in the game along with the atheleticism they have. They are the team to beat next year. I predicted it here first...Riverdale pulls in it's fourth gold ball next year.
  6. I know this is all just opinion, and like noses, everybody has one. I am curious how you come up with the top 11 teams and omit Lincoln County. You have Riverdale and Franklin ranked 6 and 7, respectively. Lincoln County beat both of them. Riverdale lost three games this year and Franklin lost a couple. Lincoln County ended up 12-1, and had BOTH of the 5A Mr. Football winners. I could not make a very good case that they were the BEST team in the state, but I could sure argue that they belong in the top ten. Of course, that's just my opinion...and is worth about as much as yours. I couldn't agree more. Riverdale and LC slugged it out in 'the pit' for the entire game. LC had the opportunity to win that game till the final incomplete pass in the direction of a wide open (and very fast) TE with seconds left on the clock. Riverdale gave Germantown a run for their money and came close to going ahead if I remember correctly. I think a team that went 12-1 and barely lost to a very good team they beat earlier in the year should definitely be in the top ten, and likely in the top 5. But that's just my opinion....
  7. I'd love to see them play another night as well, and I'm sure I will even though it may be a year or two. The whole team brought so much to the community and all of us fans displaced from the community. Thanks for a great season, the heart and soul you showed to everyone in the community, and for the memories we'll have of you in the future. Congratulations again.
  8. My team may not have made it this far, but I agree with your statement exactly. It couldn't have been said better. Riverdale pulled off better execution and capitalized on the couple of LC mistakes. I can think of two that were a 14 point swing, namely the punt return fumbled which lead to Riverdales second and final touchdown, and the 90+yd holding call that erased a LC score. I'm not complaining by any means. Riverdale earned it and deserved it. Coach Rankin had an excellent gameplan and they couldn't have played any better. I'd love to see everyone in the final 8 in 5A play each of the other 7 opponents and then see how teams compare. The results would be real interesting. I think there would be a lot of teams that would have some suprising endings to the games, but much like the LC/Riverdale game....I see most of them being pretty close and down to the final minute of the game before anything is sealed and delivered.
  9. I agree that there was little diversity in the number of plays LC ran. The slant and middle were wide open all game, as would have been the quick throws. The first half it appeared we were just determined to try and pound the ball even when they were packing 9 in the box. That didn't work against smyrna and I don't know why we kept trying it for a full half against a well coached and faster defense. No complaints about the call selection. We still had our chances and kept the game close. The Defense did an excellent job at shutting down scoring opportunities after the second touchdown. This was a game of which team made the big play that counts and which team made the turnovers work for them. Riverdale was perfect on both counts. It's hard to win a game fighting those odds. LC still had the chance to pull it out. I think LC was the better and more atheletic team, but things just didn't click right all game. I would love to have seen a best of three series or something. It would be really something everyone would enjoy as I'm sure it would be another two close and electric games. Riverdale pulled 7 points off a fumbled kick and LC had a long TD run called back for holding. Just as in the first game the team with fewer mistakes won the game. Congrats to both teams for a good season and an amazing game that everyone will remember.
  10. Here's what I had in another post regarding Michael Edminston for LC in 5A. Rushing 164 carries for 1393 yds(4 yds shy of our RB Josh Gregory) averaging out to 8.5 yds per carry. 17 rushing TDs with 1 2pt conversion. Passing 54 completions in 119 attempts for 1257 yds averaging to 23.3 yds per catch. 16 TDs with no 2pts. 4 Ints with only 1 in regular season. Most people who've seen him run agree he's likely in the 4.4 40yd speed range. He's one world of an athelete. Congrats to him and the rest of the Falcons on an impressive season. You gave so many with so little so much hope and something to believe in. You believed in yourselves and it showed to everyone who saw you play. Thanks for the inspiring moments and memories.
  11. You said 1,00 yds..We all know what you meant. Thanks for your opinion. I was just interested so I looked up his stats on the tennessean website. This is what I found. 12. I expect nothing less than another close football game that's a treat and testament to what football can and should be. A delight for the fans and players both, and everyone remembers the games for the rest of their lives. I've been lucky enough to see two spectacular games that were down to the wire with LC the last two weeks, and I hope to watch OR/Riverdale play just as good a game. Good luck and best wishes to all involved.
  13. Drew... I was just kidding - notice the LOL and the emiton smiley. And I 'got over it' in the caravan going back over Chestnut Ridge last night. And Drew = ya may want to change that sig line - Riverdale proved last night that you can both slow down and then stop the Falcons at the pit. (again - just kidding!!!) It was a great game. Both games this year were almost mirror images of each other. We had a 90+ yard touchdown called back at our place, ya had a great 90+ yard run by your tremendous QB called back. Both games came down to the trailing team just running out of time and downs.... Two teams of great kids playing great football. #72 and #6 and a long list of other L.C. kids played their hearts out and were a pleasure to watch. Almost makes you wish high school played 15 minute quarters so we could have more of that football to watch Nah, not gonna change the sig line. I'm a true blue fan and think they'll have a rough year next year after loosing a LOT of talented players and leadership, but they'll come through again. Riverdale did an excellent job at doing everything they could to stop us. Riverdale played well and capitalized on the turnovers. It's hard to beat a very good and well coached team when they don't make mistakes to shoot themselves in the foot or have any turnovers. It was a hard fought game. I just still am thinking about what it might have been like if we hadn't have fumbled the punt that was capitalized for your second score. The flag on the center for holding on the TD that was called back.....I guess only the ref that threw it knows what he saw much as in the TD that was called back for you all in the first game. I don't take it personal.... I just wish sometimes I was lucky enough to see a best of three series or something with two teams like LC and Riverdale. Man..the pit would be packed more each game if they played the way they did Friday and it would most likely go to the third game. I'm sure you'd agree. I'm up for the 15 minute quarters except for one reason....we had a bunch of people going both ways, where as Riverdale has the numbers and depth to do a bit more switching. I know our guys were wore down at the end, but their heart carried them to the final seconds. The Smyrna game was the best high school game I'd seen till this one, and I'm sure many will agree that a better football game is hard to come by. Best of luck in beating OR. I hope you bring home the title. I'm sure all our boys would enjoy knowing that they were a catch or call away from being there themselves. Take care of business again and bring the title back to the middle tenn area where it belongs!
  14. Heh, not that it matters now....but I think everyone in the state knows how fast Michael Edminston is now. Last night against Riverdale he outran everyone on their team for 90 yards. Riverdale only had one guy with even a chance at catching him and even he wasn't fast enough. I feel confident he'll win Mr. Football, and I'm sure the a lot of the Riverdale fans who saw him play a couple of times this season and what he can do will agree he's probably the best all around athelete in the state.
