  1. These schools should be multiplied because they have an obvious advantage.
  2. It’s obvious that Mr. Cowan doesn’t know what the Student Service for Financial Aid in Princeton is, or what function in serves in the financial aid process. Stick to the jock straps, Mr. Cowan, and leave school administration to others. ATTENTION!!! We apoligize for the use of the term " athletic scholarship". The proper term should be "financial aid for athletes". I know that's a huge difference and we are sorry for any offense that may have been inflicted. BTW- CAK doesn't use the Student Service for Financial Aid in Princton. Maybe that's why he didn't mention that. Of course, you didn't know how CAK determines financial need which begs the question why are you commenting on another school's policies?
  3. ATTENTION PRIVATE SCHOOL SUPPORTERS- No longer use the term " athletic scholarship". Instead the term " financial aid to athletes" has been approved for use. This should clear everything up. BTW- VG Your brother was SELLING the equipment not donating it. Big difference.
  4. Now, please explain exactly how privates " fought, scratched, and clawed" to stay in 1a. I hope you are not using a handful of CoachT posters to base that on. Ask anyone at the TSSAA meetings who did the fighting and scratching.
  5. Yea, right. Let Greenback lose to Alcoa by 40 a couple of years in a row and he'll start crying for SIX classes for football.
  6. Don't care much for your judgemental attitude but I beleive it comes from ignorance. Let me give you the full story. Years ago when the split came about the thought was" we aren't going to give out athletic scholarships b/c that runs counter to our mission. We are a christian school not an athletic school. If these families REALLY want a christain education they should sacrifice." Sounds good, but that's not how the real world operates. I agree that attitude is "overly spiritual". Also it was(and is) a matter of economics. With very little aid money to go around now I can just imagine a family that is denied aid. They will raise a stink about "athletes" receiving preferred treatment whether its true or not. These issues; - the preception of athletics getting too much of the money pie - avoiding controversy over who receives aid, might keep us in Div I anyway. Not to mention the extra travel that might be involved with a switch to Div II. "we aren't going to give out athletic scholarships b/c that runs counter to our mission. We are a christian school not an athletic school. If these families REALLY want a christain education they should sacrifice." Wow. My point is that used to be the administration's attitude. A very poor one in my opinion. Things have changed dramatically at CAK mainly because of new administration and a new school board. Years ago you couldn't even designate donations to a specific fund. All donated money went to a general fund then the board decided where the money went. That policy changed five years ago and that's part of the reason CAK's sports programs have been improving. CAK is a large school with many interest who would like to go back to the old way of doing things. I hope they don't read CoachT. I might be looking for a new job.
  7. That's only if we switch to DIV II. I said only basketball would be easier. (year in and year out I would rather play Webb and Catholic than Fulton and A-E) We are already playing DIV I 2a schools in the "country club" sports and do real well. We might end up biting the bullet in basketball by staying in Div I. Of course, basketball is what I coach.

  9. As CAK contemplates whether to stay in Div I or switch to Div II it comes down to which sports you care to sacrifice. In football, we would be 2a which means playing schools ONLY 2 and1/2 times our size. Quite a challenge but one we could eventually deal with(I think). That's b/c there are five classes in football. In tennis, golf, volleyball, and soccer there are currently only two classes so nothing changes there at all. Those are "country club" sports so private schools kids will do O.k. anyway. Things get a little trickier when you look at basketball and baseball/softball. There you only have three classes so enrollments are more spread out. That places us playing schools three and 1/2 times our size.( I AM NOT WHINING, JUST STATING FACTS) Now baseball/softball are generally sports middle class white kids do O.K. in; so again, eventually we could be competetive(hopefully). That leaves basketball. Last projected districts I saw had us in with Austin-East and Fulton . Oh, well, ya' can't win 'em all. We could jump to Div II which helps in basketball but is tougher in all other sports. Although there is another advantage in switching I haven't heard discussed much. We have several families on financial aid with the vast majority of those being middle and elementary. Why?? Because those families have to make a choice in high school; do I send my child to public school (or Webb) so they can play sports or do I accept aid thus disqualifying my child from playing sports? If your child really enjoys ball that's a tough choice. This happens more than you realize. If we go Div II we still won't recruit but it will help a lot of our families keep their kids in a christian school.
  10. The Region will be held @ Greenback.
  11. Who in God's name(I'm not sure why you brought Him into it?) would waste their time and space complaining about a JV thread???
  12. Thanks for the reply. Is that this week? If so i guess its too late to get my team in.
  13. Are there any JV tournaments in the Knox County area(or east Tennessee for that matter)? Please let me know.
  14. Finally, a truly interesting thread on CoachT... how refreshing.
  15. CAK defeated Cosby tonight by around 20 points. I can't remember the exact score, somewhere around 76-56. CAK played very well, they shot well and played good defense on Hall and Black. Cosby got in foul trouble early and never got into a rhythm. If I was in Cosby's shoes I would be very upset with the refs. I don't blame 'em for complaining, just don't accuse us of doing anything unethical or improper with the officals. But, anyway, I'm sure we'll meet at least once , if not twice, more this season. Good luck to y'all the rest of the way.
  16. We're 5 1/2 hours from tip-off. I'm going with CAK to pull off the upset by 8-10 points.
  17. Out of East Tennessee it will probably be Cosby with the other team being either Rockwood,CAK, Unaka, or Cloudland. It could come down to home court advantage.
  18. Whew... I'm glad we got that settled. Now, back to SERIOUS discussion about the game and the district race.
  19. Thank you for proving my point. Your poster name, not to mention your actual post, says it all.
  20. Oh, come guys... who cares about class or sportsmanship... it's all about winning! What's sad is that the kids from Knox Catholic actually believe that. Watch 'em play or read their post... its all there. They actually think that talking trash, embarrassing their opponets is "normal" and just part of the game. No, I'm not jealous. I go to a school that's won 10 state championships in the last four years; something I'm sure KCHS hasn't done. Oh, well, just one more reason to hate Notre Dame University. BTW... Ausdan... you might be the exception. I guess your parents actually disciplined you.
  21. CAK took it on the chin at the Eagle's nest a couple of weeks ago(but then, doesn't everybody?). Can CAK bounce back? Cosby's a great team but the Warriors are looking for the upset. The expectations are sky high for the Eagles... will the pressure get to 'em? No one expected much out of CAK this season but with new coach John Darden they are playing well but would like to keep their underdog status. What does everyone think about this key 3a matchup?
  22. Pretty good rankings. Maybe you should vote in the AP poll although you might be disqualified for using common sense. BTW- you might want to check out Greenback's record.
  23. Hey, what's 15 pounds between friends?
  24. You guys have a good district. It's very competitive with alot of parity along with spirited rivalries. Count yourselves lucky. I wish CAK could get placed in with you guys. I think we have the lamest district in the state.
  25. He's 6'3" 190 lbs. Plays the 4 position and is averaging about 14 points and 9 rebounds a game. He had a slow start because of basketball so I expect those stats to increase as the season progresses. He's had 4 three pointers the last two games. He's also an excellant driver.( just like Rain Man)
