Great game even despite the refs.  I saw a post that it was the same crew that worked the McCallie/MBA game during the season @ McCallie.  If this is true then it explains it.  MBA won even with the horrible calls.  I watched it on YouTube and was done with that crew when MBA hit back in the flat who took it about 70 yds.  When the RB had gone about 40 or 50 yds the line judge threw the flag for holding in the backfield.  Pitiful!

The officials last night were from the Blount County Football Officials Association.

Give me a break. MBA scored on a TD where a penalty flag was thrown for personal foul but was called a dead ball penalty. Clearly not a dead ball penalty. Should have negated TD.

Baylor won fair and square. Better team.

Pretty astute analysis. The officials didn't determine this one. Not sure one team is better than the other, but that's not really the point, is it? The game goes to whoever scores more points. I'm an old MBA alumnus, so obviously I'd have enjoyed a different outcome. But as a student of the game, I enjoyed it immensely. Good teams, well-coached and well-disciplined, and a clean game. If you love football, this was a great one.

  3. !. Unsportsmanlike Conduct during a play are treated as dead ball fouls, and penalized from the succeeding spot, either on the try, or the kick-off.

    2. Holding is a ten yard penalty. Officials refer to something called "the basic spot," and the basic spot on a run play is the end of the run (i.e., here, the end zone). Without getting too deep into it, there are 4 types of penalties. If the penalty on a run play occurs behind the basic spot, the foul is enforced from the spot of the foul, and the down is replayed. If the holding occurred 10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage, the marked off penalty would go to the line of scrimmage, and the down would be repeated. So neither the chains nor the down box would move.

With the city championship over good luck to all the metro schools. Hope everyone wins their divisions and make some noise in the playoffs.

I remember when this story would be good for an article, and maybe a picture in the Tennessean. There are very few good teams that don't field a freshman team.

Quick turnaround on Thursday night for CPA after homecoming this past weekend.  They'll rally the troops.  When will a team just bracket Humphreys and dare someone else to beat them?  Doing so will end up in interception after interception.  Chuck and duck...

Do you have any thoughts on Saturday's lottery numbers? Asking for a friend.

I read somewhere on here that some teams had lost one game and didn’t make the playoffs because of it. That’s CRAZY if you think about it especially nowadays.

The brackets are on the TSSAA website. The AAA playoffs in '71 were MBA, Covington, Red Bank and Tennessee from Bristol. There were several undefeated teams who didn't make the play-offs.

Fan I would strongly disagree with Tate's comment. Look at how strong the coaches were in the 80s and 90s. Not a dig at the current coaches, but no way they stack up against the best. I remember when if you won your distrct/region in metro you had a chance at a championship. Almost every team in metro has had at least some level of success in the 90s. Even Glencliff and Hillwood had success. HL used to be tough, WC, etc. Take out the current top 3 in metro, who even has a chance to be better than average.

Consider the early '70's: Coutras at Overton, Elrod at Maplewood, Dunn at Antioch, Russell at McGavock, Herschel Moore at Glencliff, Ernest Smallen at Goodlettsville...no knock on the coaches now, whose resources are very different, but those are a lot of great names.

I have a question maybe you will know the answer to. I have a buddy who's interested in becoming an official for either football or baseball if not both. How would one do that? Seems like a great fit to me he's knowledgeable and he has no allegiances to Tennessee schools because he's from out of state.

My contact info is in my profile. If he contacts me, I'd be happy to help him. Registration is going on now, so this is the time to act.

This was a dominating performance from McCallie. They seemed to have Reed off his rhythm for the entirety of the game. It's hard to win one gold bowl, but to do win 3 in a row is most impressive.

Anyone know the reaction from MBA?

    Nothing broken, severe concussion.

Blade jinxed them when he changed their traditional helmet they wore for years. Joe at least changed that back,

No connection to OR at all, but why on earth would you change one of the most impressive helmets in Tennessee football? If I'm the AD, as soon as that thought gets mentioned, I realize I've made a horrible mistake.

Yea that’s kind of more of what I was looking for but I don’t really want to watch a blowout either and that’s probably why will happen with Oakland.

I know those are private schools that probably don’t get a lot of love because they don’t in WV either but after doing some research I was also looking at Brentwood Academy and John Paul and Lipscomb Academy, forgot about that’s where Dilfer coaches now.

Would like to watch Ravenwood and Collierville but it’s away and a trip, unfortunately.

Historically, MBA and Baylor always give you an entertaining game. No matter what the talent level, they seem to match up well, and play a hard game, usually not decided until late.

Gallatin at Hendersonville. The crowd will be huge. It’s a rivalry game

Clarksville at Beech. Beech is always a good atmosphere

Columbia at Greenhill. Greenhill is in Mt Juliet which is a nice area for restaurants

I would probably attend Gallatin v Hendersonville just for rivalry

If you choose that Gallatin-Hendersonville, your pregame meal should be at Center Point Barbecue. Have the ribs.

Wow, GH rallies from 14 down in the 4th qtr to win in the final 10 seconds 25-21.

That makes three last minute comebacks that I can place right off the top of my head. If the booster club wants to buy a meaningful gift for the school, I'd suggest an AED.

We ain’t ran away with a game yet. It really depends on what teams shows up. I just realized tonight that PC might be the youngest team in the district. Everybody is loaded with seniors. I seen MC this year and them boys can play. Switching the QB I think made them more dangerous and the kid can throw. It should be dog fight.

I've seen your freshmen and they look good.

What metro coach past or present would you pick. Name an entire staff please. Outside of metro who would your staff be?

Historically there were a lot of great coaches in Metro. I think I'd go with Nick Coutras as head coach. Doris Armstrong would be my DC, mainly because he's so cool. I don't know enough Metro assistants to fill out the rest of the staff.

I’ve seen it at a game in 1989 or 90 by a Nashville school. Who are the 3 you’re talking about?

    Goodlettsville-Bellevue, mid '70's

Trousdale Co-Goodpasture within the last 10 yrs

    BA-CPA This season

When I was at Goodlettsville HS Bellevue HS did the same thing. Amazing that many people do not even know the rule .

I was at that game. When Bellevue started calling their timeouts with Goodlettsville pinned deep as the half ended, my dad told me he thought they were setting up to force a punt, a fair catch, and a free kick. No one around us had any idea what he was talking about.

    17-7 BA at Half.

Very interesting play just before the half.  With 11 seconds, CPA punts out of its own end zone. BA fair catches at CPA 34. BA has opportunity to kick field goal off tee with no rush.  BA's kicker, robot leg, puts it through the pipes and I think hits Del Frisco's.

In the Middle Tennessee area, this is the 3rd time in 45 years this rule has been invoked.

Basically the pre season top two metro Nashville teams going head to head. Pc lost 3 huge players due to graduation but still has the best player on the field “#7” CR returns most of their kids from what I was told. This should be a battle to the end.

Didn't #7 get ejected during the last game of the play-offs?
