  1. The new stadium at Liberty Creek is beautiful. For a small school, Dresden has a really impressive stadium. Alcoa was also impressive.
  2. The officials last night were from the Blount County Football Officials Association.
  3. Pretty astute analysis. The officials didn't determine this one. Not sure one team is better than the other, but that's not really the point, is it? The game goes to whoever scores more points. I'm an old MBA alumnus, so obviously I'd have enjoyed a different outcome. But as a student of the game, I enjoyed it immensely. Good teams, well-coached and well-disciplined, and a clean game. If you love football, this was a great one.
  4. !. Unsportsmanlike Conduct during a play are treated as dead ball fouls, and penalized from the succeeding spot, either on the try, or the kick-off. 2. Holding is a ten yard penalty. Officials refer to something called "the basic spot," and the basic spot on a run play is the end of the run (i.e., here, the end zone). Without getting too deep into it, there are 4 types of penalties. If the penalty on a run play occurs behind the basic spot, the foul is enforced from the spot of the foul, and the down is replayed. If the holding occurred 10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage, the marked off penalty would go to the line of scrimmage, and the down would be repeated. So neither the chains nor the down box would move.
  5. I remember when this story would be good for an article, and maybe a picture in the Tennessean. There are very few good teams that don't field a freshman team.
  6. Do you have any thoughts on Saturday's lottery numbers? Asking for a friend.
  7. The brackets are on the TSSAA website. The AAA playoffs in '71 were MBA, Covington, Red Bank and Tennessee from Bristol. There were several undefeated teams who didn't make the play-offs.
  8. Consider the early '70's: Coutras at Overton, Elrod at Maplewood, Dunn at Antioch, Russell at McGavock, Herschel Moore at Glencliff, Ernest Smallen at Goodlettsville...no knock on the coaches now, whose resources are very different, but those are a lot of great names.
  9. My contact info is in my profile. If he contacts me, I'd be happy to help him. Registration is going on now, so this is the time to act.

    Nothing broken, severe concussion.
  11. I'm the same with MBA's maroon helmet.
  12. No connection to OR at all, but why on earth would you change one of the most impressive helmets in Tennessee football? If I'm the AD, as soon as that thought gets mentioned, I realize I've made a horrible mistake.
  13. Historically, MBA and Baylor always give you an entertaining game. No matter what the talent level, they seem to match up well, and play a hard game, usually not decided until late.
  14. If you choose that Gallatin-Hendersonville, your pregame meal should be at Center Point Barbecue. Have the ribs.
  15. That makes three last minute comebacks that I can place right off the top of my head. If the booster club wants to buy a meaningful gift for the school, I'd suggest an AED.
  16. Some in Middle Tennessee: Pope JP II-Center Point Barbecue Forrest: Holy Smokes Barbecue (world's greatest banana pudding) Macon Co: Kristine's Kitchen
  17. Historically there were a lot of great coaches in Metro. I think I'd go with Nick Coutras as head coach. Doris Armstrong would be my DC, mainly because he's so cool. I don't know enough Metro assistants to fill out the rest of the staff.

I was at that game. When Bellevue started calling their timeouts with Goodlettsville pinned deep as the half ended, my dad told me he thought they were setting up to force a punt, a fair catch, and a free kick. No one around us had any idea what he was talking about.

In the Middle Tennessee area, this is the 3rd time in 45 years this rule has been invoked.
  22. Didn't #7 get ejected during the last game of the play-offs?
  23. I didn't think there were many high school games on radio anymore.. Glad to see I was wrong. Have a great season!
