  1. The Coach Gaddis comment is a little off the wall. In reading some old posts from last year I think there a few people out there who don't care much for him. May be they are from east of river. Coach Counce comment, who knows where that came from. From what I understand about Counce he is a solid coach who got just got away from HCHS. They will probably have these open posts shutdown before a new HCHS BB coach is hired. I wish the people making the hiring decision the best. A new coach has a lot of potential to work with.
  2. I believe he has football post mixed in. We sure don't need to talk quality of work.
  3. A lot of people have asked the question about the boys coach. Maybe this is a reason. In the last 2 years administration has fired Football, Soccer, Volleyball coaches. Baseball and Softball had to be replaced for coaches that stepped down. Oddly enough these 2 coaches had the best winning records at HCHS. A new AD was hired. With all these changes maybe the administration decided not to deal with another firing. He made a speech to the players at the beginning of the season saying that he was being watched closely and the program must have improvement or he would be gone. They went from 5 wins to 10 wins. They are capable next year of being a 500 or better ball team with the District they are in. But the girls coach went from 8 wins to 12 wins and gets fired? The girls team played a lot of Soph this year and has the potential to be a 15-17 game winner next season. Either improvement is not the issue for firing or the boys coach better watch it next year because if he wins more games he might get axed.
  4. I have heard there is one Clarksville coach interested in the girls coaching job. With the exception of the ninth grade coach, I am not aware of any others at this time.
  5. If my memory is correct Coach Weeks best W/L year was his first. I could maybe see getting feedback from him after year 2 or 3 when the program was struggling but to wait till now it makes me wonder if the administration plans to maybe use this against him if things don't continue to rebound? I think they could improve to a 14-15 win season next year. He has had a tough time. He attempted to assist the Grove coach over the years, even gathered info to get the ninth grade coach replaced and it backfired in his face. He spent the next year or 2 not attending a single Grove game until they eventually released the Grove coach for misconduct. Next year will be interesting. Unless something changes with players I would say they will live and die by the 3 pointer next year.
  6. Coach Lassiter intends to apply for the position but does not believe she will get it. SHe understands that the have someone else lined up. It is a miracle that Coach Weeks kept his job. Most people I talk to believe since they fired the girls BB coach,Soccer coach and Volleyball coach that also doing the boys BB coach might hinder their ability to hire. Coach Weeks has to do an essay on How do I Turn HCHS Basketball Program Around. How crazy is that? Why would he want to stick around given the recent track record. It is funny you mention administration changes, the big rumour among teachers and staff is that the Director of Schools is looking to move and go to a another system.
  7. As far as who they are looking for as basketball coach haven't heard as of yet. Coach LAssiter did a good job when she coached what is this years Sophmores and this years Freshmen. I can tell you a story that came from a Board Memeber that a couple of years ago when French stepped down from coaching girls softball she was offered the team. She declined and I guess said she was more interested in basketball. The story goes she was told if she did not want to step up to the plate and take the softball team that she can forget about head basketball coach. I don't know if it is fact but it would sure sound like something current top administration would say.
  8. It seems like the last 12-15 years HCHS has been a tough place to have a coaching career at. May be it is like that everywhere. Baseball may be the most stable during that time probalby due to the success of the program under Veazey and Putnam. From what I heard there is a lot of job postings not only in sports but in the academic area too. Wiggleton has had some success here and has been rebuilding. I know that he has had a lot of strife with players, parents and administration during the last 2 years. I guess all that did him in.
  9. HCHS Girls Coach was let go from Coaching. Will remain as teacher. A lot of coaching vacancies in the lesser talked about sports at school right now both head and assistant levels. Rumor has it that the boys BB coach will be given another year. HCHS did not want to fire both boys and girls coach in same year. Maybe they flipped a coin, who knows?
  10. Henry County will be doing some rebuilding for the first time in a lot of years. They lost 6 senior starters that were offered scholarships to play beyond HS. Looks like their top players returning will be Sanders, Stutzman and Pratt all Seniors and 4 year starters. Sanders has already signed to play college, Stutzman has offers, not sure about Pratt. My guess is they will start a couple of sophomore catchers, both good, solid players. Given playing time should develop quickly. Outfield by committee. Should have winning record. Another 20 plus win season?
  11. HCHS is now in West Tn in football. Will have to travel almost to Memphis for some games. You are right that we have had trouble beating any AA basketball teams from West Tn the last 4-5 years. I believe that was 3 years ago that we got to a substate game. A lot of people felt that team underachieved for the talent it had. Didn't it take a half court throw by the starting center at the buzzer to advance them? I can't remember for sure. The main reason PSSD can pay their teachers and administators more money is being a Special School district I believe they were granted the right by the State to set their own tax rates. They have a lot more control on revenue than a non Special school district. Even though they have more say over tax rates I doubt we will see a PSSD High School any time in the near future. I think a few years ago a small group of parents began pushing for it but it did not get anywhere.
  12. Two school systems cmplicates matters. HC does not want to undertake separate schools alone. PSSD has said they don't want to get into the High School business alone. Merger seems to be taboo. Teacher salary is one issue. I know there is a big hurdle making County system salaries match what City makes. I thought at one time is was around $250,000 to $500,000? Also as any business during a merger administrative staff is usually cut. I guess there are advantages and disadvantages of separate ninth grade. Academically it seems to be a plus. I know other systems have made trips to see Grove because they are interested in going to similar setup. Athletically not so sure. Lack of weight room can't help. Need good coaches that take direction from HCHS coaches to run program. Football has seem to take good direction from high school. Grove basketball has been a joke as far as coaching. Even if ninth graders get good PT against Jr Varisty teams in the area, if coaching stinks their game suffers and future coaches have to deal with it. Of course $ aside, it may all come down to egos. It has been said by somethat we should always play with the big boys and if we have 2 AA's then we would have to play the smaller schools. I go for 2 schools. Their are some mighty good AA teams in these parts. THose are all the teams I remember playing against and having a good rivalary with.
  13. hamstring. Played Tuesday but she was having a lot of pain. Still managed 7 points Hamstring repair is tough. Don't know what happened Friday night. Some rest she could be 100 % by Turney.
  14. Years ago when HCHS was putting more competitive teams on the floor the Clarksville High games could get very interesting. Baseball games between HCHS, Rossville and Clarksville High have been great the last few years. This year should be the same.
  15. You should drive to Clarksville 5-8 times a season. More if you have kids on multiple teams.
  16. Springfield, just another 100 mile trip! By the time a HCHS kid goes 4 years of sports or other competition they are well traveled. I bet the school system gasoline bill is one of the highest in the state.
  17. Team concept seems to be something that has been lacking. This year it really shows with the defections. With the recent reclassifications I wasn't sure what TSSAA was doing with the other schools. I would think HCHS will always be 3A in basketball. I guess we are it as far as 3A, north of Jackson. With the way Clarksville builds schools and moves students around I did not know what might happen there, haven't seen a list for next years district. Are all the same teams in District 10 3A?
  18. Seems like the last 3-4 years HCHS boys team has been really struggling. They have had some talent, 2 former players are playing college now and 2 or 3 were offered to play at smaller schools, that was just in the last 2 years. Since the Winter Break they seem to be playing better as a team. It seems that Coach Weeks started seeing that when certain players teamed up it gave him a good 5. This is probably why a couple of Seniors quit during this time period. Not getting the time they thought they deserved. The remaining players play hard and smart, makes up for what they may lack in matching up to more athletic teams. They have 2 regular season games left this year and have a 7-16 regular compared to 5-21 last year. A-wins-A-win, but when you look a little deeper the record of the teams they have beat is 54-90 only one with a winning record and their District wins have been against teams with records of 6-22. Last year the record of teams HCHS beat was 41-59. Worse than this we are 1-14 against AA teams last 2 years. Are we getting better for next year? If we stay in District 10 AAA we should post a better record and we have maturing players. A little height would help, we a lacking in that area. If we move to another District, who knows? Coach Weeks status? Coaching technique aside, I believe 5 players have quit this year and 1 more for discipline. He told the team at the beginning of year that this was the make or break year for his job. If they did not improve alot he would be gone. He has been here 5-6 years with a win/loss degregation, WAIT this sounds like we are talking about Coach Webb. I would say they need to run the table and get into the Region Tournament for Coach to remain at HCHS. I am not sure even that will save his job. When Board members and Administrators are asking long time followers of HCHS basketball for opinions of the Coach and what they think needs to be done, that comes off as a good sign that a change is coming. I would bet the resume is almost ready to go. Weeks will get hired quick, basketball head coaches turn over a little more than football.
  19. You'll probalbly see Burton, Fridy and J. Teague all running point alot until one of them steps up to secure the spot. This team has a lot of heart and never gives up. I agree, Zech and Brandon just need to hang in while the rest of the team matures around them.
  20. They are young, inexperienced team. Only 3 Seniors, only Teague and Junior Brandon Foster with much starting time. Seven Juniors and six sophomores, I think. No Freshmen, they play on the Grove Freshmen team. Talented and deep group of Freshmen coming up. HC usually peaks at Tourney. The District and Region will be at Henry County this year. Good athletes but need some time together. Justin Pierpoint is number 54 and has not played yet. Has not been on team very long. You may have him mixed up with Junior Chris Burton who has started first 2 games at point and is averaging about 5 points in first 2 games. Foster is leading scorer early in season.
