1. QUOTE(davidlimbaugh @ May 20 2007 - 10:11 PM) 826463790Look at my Cubs today - we have Zambrano on the hill and the White Sox have a kid making his first career start - guess who won!

Dude don't remind. It hurts soooo bad. I hate Pierszinski and those dumb Sox announcers are freakin boring. HE GONE!!! Give me a break.

  2. QUOTE(ReBeLfAnAtIc @ May 5 2007 - 12:22 AM) 826452258sorry charlie but maryville is the best. i know you hate maryville because they are so good. maryville beat cleveland while you were there. page has never done anything.william blount hasn't either.maryville is a machine and a dynasty. accept it.

Why didn't Maryville drop one of those sorry local teams on their schedule then?

Yall talk about how big and bad yall are but everytime a great team calls Maryville out, they make excuses about how their schedule is full and they don't wanna give up the crosstown games which aren't even games because the other teams are terrible.

You say you can beat anyone in the state, right? Well than PROVE IT.

  3. QUOTE(StrengthandHonor @ May 3 2007 - 05:49 PM) 826451065You really need to broaden your vision when it comes to high school players. Rod is a good player, one of the best in TN. But there are several players in the state of Florida with his ability and more. Urban has so much size, speed, and talent in the state of Florida to chose from, I doubt he is just sitting there wondering where he would want to play Wilks.

I was showing how stupid it would look if that was how he was evaluating Rod. I wasn't saying he was spending all of his time thinking and discussing about him. Geez lighten up.

  4. QUOTE(JesseWJohnson @ May 2 2007 - 09:01 PM) 826450414Look, I don't want to insult anyone, but the U.S. Army game [or combine] is not the end all to be all about football...nor football recruiting. First, it a sponsered event by one recruiting publisher and the selections are always subject to where someone might be going or not [as far as uncommitted prospects who will announce their commitment on air]. And that still doesn't mean that has a thing to do with how the prospect ranks or how recruited the prospect is. All of the "rankings" are subject to evaluations that are sometimes not even fully defined by those who evaluate, so they are not always accurate, but they are also not always wrong either and there's the belief that college scouts input and activity even figure into them.

And from what I gather, some teams haven't offered Rod yet not because of his brother or the perception that he's going to Tennessee, but that some are wondering what position he would fit their needs. People think his athleticism is through the roof, they are just trying to figure where it best applies. Just passing along information.

Ok but what I dont understand is why they still wouldn't be trying to recruit him.

If I was Urban Meyer at Florida, I'd be thinking 'Hey we just won a national championship and are the top sports college in America right now. Most kids dream of playing for a college like us. I'm not sure where this Wilks kid projects at the college level though. Hmmmmmmmmm He could play WR, safety, cornerback, returner. But what makes him special is he is unbelievable at each spot. So what should I do? Just sit here and ponder over which spot he'll play and waste time while other top programs' coaches are winning him over by personally visiting him, or should I go check this kid out and pay a personal visit or send an assistant there instead and we can offer him and when he gets here we can sort this whole position thing out.'

I'd much rather have a kid that could fill in any of 4 spots not filled by other players then be left with any holes in my roster.

  5. QUOTE(uncfan09 @ May 2 2007 - 07:40 AM) 826449743Any one can have 2 or 3 big games in which they make a big impact but with spur he has a impact on every off. play of the game i dont think Rod can say that

Any one can have 2 or 3 big games in which they make a big impact but with spur he has a impact on every off. play of the game i dont think Rod can say that

IMO Rod makes a WAY bigger impact than spurlock. Rod is the type of player that coaches have to change their entire defensive schemes around.

Have you ever heard of a coach staying up all night trying to figure out how to stop an offensive lineman?

    No.

  6. QUOTE(tdntn @ May 1 2007 - 07:58 PM) 826449428i also agree with uncfan09 i havent seen rod do anything spectacular against riverdale (the only other time i have ever seen him play though is the 2nd half of last years smyrna vs. blackman which he was very impressive in) which supposedly our secondary gets bashed on every year because other teams often claim they are garbage

Well I think yall have to consider the fact that while college scouts do watch how a player peforms in games, it's not all about that. They pay most of there attention to how they do in drills to see what they are capable of doing physically and how much potential they have at the next level. But by the way, Rod did win mvp in the championship game which should wipe out all doubt of his ability to perform in big games.

Rightfully so because Riverdale's DBs are not that good. The reason why they didn't get burnt in the passing game was because of the D-line's ability to put pressure on the QB play in and play out.

  7. QUOTE(uncfan09 @ Apr 30 2007 - 08:24 AM) 826448214who all has come to yalls practices. i know that Riverdale has had UT, UK and i have heard that Nick Saban is coming to their scrimmage this friday

yea smyrna had fulmer, nobody cares about UK football, and saban is coming here this week

  8. QUOTE(Live4FridayNite615 @ Apr 28 2007 - 04:45 PM) 826447523Gray will be there but who is going to throw it to him.. now if he would come to SHS /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> he wouldn't have to worry about that.. lol

Yea I know. We could always use a #2 reciever.

  9. QUOTE(82cat @ Apr 28 2007 - 10:35 PM) 826447717could be, I would guess ut would be 1st but not a lock

they are all offering now so he is going on all his visits

Which schools have actually offered him besides Bama and UT? I've heard that some schools will offer him or already have but there is no indication on any recruiting sites.

  10. QUOTE(tdntn @ Apr 28 2007 - 06:06 PM) 826447556RIVERDALE:

    #79 LG/DT David Spurlock

    #66 DT/RG LaDarius Verge

    #78 C Travis Lilienthal

    #2 RB Jeremy McClain

i would bet atleast 1 of these guys will be up for mr. football too, lets hope they all stay healthy /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I could see Verge or Spurlock and alteast one of them is a lock for finalist. Not so much for the other two.

  11. QUOTE(2priceless @ Apr 27 2007 - 06:45 AM) 826446582Cat, do you suppose that Wilkes will verbally sign with UT?

He's saying he wants to take all 5 visits before making a decision. Looks like Rod is waiting for Florida and LSU to offer him.

  12. QUOTE(smyrnafootballfan @ Apr 26 2007 - 09:21 PM) 826446384well i have returned from the 2nd day of smyrnas spring practice. they look solid and i have noticed there have been a few positon changes. they seem to have all the starters they had last year returning but some people have changed postition and a few younger guys have steped up and shown they may have what it takes. first change i noticed was they moved jonha hendricks to the corner spot that orlando martin left as he graduates this year. cleve shaw looks like he is going to step up and start at the open corner spot. it looks like they have split most of the linebackers they had last year and sent them to other spots to help them out. they now have 4 or 5 lbs and it looks like they will have tony carr start at mike lb and sean mckay and jarvous hicks at oslb. they have moved josh day to strong saftey. they still look very strong up front on the d line. it looks like they have jermey king, matt refrano, quinten allen, and kyle frasher. it looks like they have moved 3 linebakers to the d end spot being chris yoder, brandon hendricks, and cody williams. on offense they have mostly all the same people i have not noticed any very big changes, and who is that new kicker i saw down there there were 2 people is coach shad thinking about having a seperate kicker and punter?

I've heard that they are twice as good this year as last season and that they are 3 deep in each position.

I'm surprised to hear Day has been moved to safety. With 19 sacks last year, you would think they could find someone else to play safety so that we can keep that strong pass rush w/ Day at LB. It's really hard for me to believe that.

Jonah will be a great corner. He has ideal size, speed, and strength to fit that position.

I've heard both sides of the spectrum about this new kicker. I hear he can make 50 yarders easy, I hear he is no good at all, and I hear Sonny will be the kicker and punter. Who knows what the heck is true.

  13. QUOTE(McNine4MVP @ Apr 25 2007 - 03:31 PM) 826445216Sunshine will be out there on the football field this fall, I would take that to the bank. He's such a great player and quality teammate................Do you really think he and Rod don't want to go out with a bang together??

With that said, they are going to miss some key contributors to that championship team. I thought Josh Crouch was the unsung hero of that team last year, how Josh went, the team went. When he lost his cool, they lost, when he made plays, they won. He was a difference maker on both sides of the ball. Add in losing that one-two punch of Maceo and Antoine, and you suddenly have some huge holes to fill. Sonny and Rod are gonna be marked men this fall, let's see if they can be made men because this year is really all on those two and J-Day to lead by example. A guy like Will Martin is going to have to step it up big-time for them to repeat.

    Totally agree with you.

Will Martin has got some good athleticism and very versatile. WR speed and hands, LB strengh, hard hitting like a safety. He can be used in so many ways.

Smyrna's got some big bruisers at RB though. Jarvis Hicks and Brandon Hendricks can wear down any d-line in the state. Add in David Sanders for alittle razzle dazzle as a scat back.

  14. QUOTE(2priceless @ Apr 19 2007 - 08:55 PM) 826441420How many are in other sports right now besides Sonny?

I think he's the only one actually. Jesse Torres might be practicing with basketball, but I don't see the point in that.
